I love books, I love words, and I love writing! I am a huge mood reader, but I try to read across a variety of genres, from classic literature to psychological thrillers to romance to nonfiction. I love coffee, rain, and reading on rainy days with coffee. Huge fan of the Oxford comma. I like to feel the wide range of emotions that books can evoke. I think it is super freaking cool to be able to read stories that other people have created in their heads and decided to share with us.
I am also a writer and future published author. I have a couple works in progress in various stages of prepping and editing. Follow along for book reviews and writing updates.

Clearing Out My Kindle // Reading Challenge
Heard about milk and honey before but forgot about it. Have been wanting to read more poetry. Maybe this could be the one I start with!
Love this tag and loved your answers! The community on booktube really is the absolute best!
I agree!! The community has been my favorite part!!
Love this tag and your answers! I love words too (obviously, since I’m a reader, haha) and just well crafted writing ❤️ I guess I need to check out more of L.M. Montgomery’s books, I’ve never heard of the other one you mentioned! Strong friendships in books are also a favorite of mine, can’t get enough of it!! I laughed out loud during the raccoon scene in Just For The Summer, so random but it stuck out to me for some reason and I was crying from laughter 😂 And I knew a Backman book would show up at some point in this video!
Yesss, words are just so beautiful! I adore LM Montgomery. My favorite obviously is the Emily of New Moon series, but I also adore The Blue Castle by her. What is your favorite book that you've read so far with strong friendships? I need more recommendations!! hahaha I had almost forgotten about the racoon scene! That's so great. I am like a broken record now for Backman. 🤣 At some point I will relax in my admiration of his books. Maybe. Possibly. 😂
I love this tag and it was lovely to hear your answers - very thoughtful as always ^^ Thank you for tagging me!
Thank you for watching! ❤
What a thoughtful and heartfelt video! Your reflections on joy, friendship, community, and gratitude were so engaging and inspiring-it’s clear how much thought and care you put into this tag. Your admiration for Charles Dickens and L. M. Montgomery resonates deeply. The way you described their ability to bring characters and places vividly to life really captures the magic of their writing. I love how you tied that joy back to your own journey as a writer-what a beautiful connection. The concept behind The Celebrant sounds so unique and moving. A celebration of life while living? That’s such a meaningful approach to friendship and community, and I’m definitely adding it to my TBR. And your thoughts on gratitude, especially related to the resilience and courage of women who’ve paved the way, were incredibly powerful. Thank you for sharing that perspective-it’s such an important reminder of the strength and sacrifices that have shaped so many of our opportunities today. I loved this tag and your answers. It’s such a great way to spread positivity and reflection-thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind response. I'm so glad that you can relate to the beauty of Charles Dickens and LM Montgomery. The use of the word "magic" is perfect to describe their writing. I hope that you enjoy The Celebrant when you get to it! I've read a couple books by him and enjoyed them. If you would like to do this tag, consider yourself tagged! I would love to hear what you would have to share.
What a beautiful tag to incorporate gratitude and the book community! Your answers were well thought out and I enjoyed seeing joy radiate through your responses 😊
It's such a fun and thoughtful tag. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
This was the best take on this tag I’ve seen by far. So much genuine joy and genuine gratitude, I smiled and laughed and cried watching this. 💜
Oh that is so kind! Thank you so much Ellen!
Great tag! You went much more in depth with your answers than I did 😅
Ooh now I'll have to go find your tag! I love seeing other people's answers as well.
Thank you so much for doing my tag. I loved your answers to the prompts, and your presentation was truly joyful. Thank you again for putting together such thoughtful responses.
Thank you for making it! Such beautiful and thought-provoking questions! I appreciate your kind words.
@ ❤️
This is such a fun idea! Hands Free Mama sounds like a really good and very relevant book. I may have to check that one out. I once owned the first Spiderwick book but never ended up picking it up 😬
Right?? I definitely want to be connected and present. It can be tough when my phone is my brain (literally, my calendar, my notes, my grocery shopping, etc) but always looking for ways to better achieve connectedness in a world rapidly growing in technology.
This is such a brilliant idea! I love that you're doing this with your sisters 💛 I would love to do that with my mum and my sister! Curious to hear what you think about The Emotional Craft of Fiction -- adding it to my list!
I don't know which of my sisters had this idea, but it was a winner!! You should definitely do it too!! I'll let you know what I think of Emotional Craft. I'm looking forward to reading it.
This is so fun and such a great idea!! If I had sisters I would totally do this, haha. Eleanor Oliphant is a great choice, and I want to see the movie too!! I love your picks for your sisters and hope they love them! Also, I love Pango Books 😍 I haven’t read any of the ones you received but Sea of Tranquility has been on my TBR cart for a while and The Paris Apartment sounds right up my alley! And I had no idea SJM wrote a Catwoman book, haha how random
I'm still confused by the movie. I looked it up and it looks like it hasn't been made?? Looks like it was announced several years ago but so far nothing has happened with it. But hopefully they make it and hopefully they do it justice!! Ooh maybe we'll end up reading Sea of Tranquility at the same time!! I was so surprised when I saw SJM wrote the Catwoman story!! haha sounds super fun though!
Oh that's such an amazing idea to do with your sisters!! I might steal this idea if any of my in person friends are interested in doing it 😍 These are such great picks for your sisters! Some I recall from your videos 🥰 I didn't know about Pangobooks! I'll definitely check it out from when I want to buy some of my 5⭐ reads. I didn't expect any of the picks that your sisters chose for you. I can't wait to see what you think about them.
YES, steal away!!! It was so fun! Pangobooks is definitely a great book source! I've really enjoyed using that app. I look forward to jumping in to the books they picked!
Loving this idea!
It was SO fun! Can't wait to pick all the books for 2025!
This is so fun! Only one of my sisters reads as much as I do but she only really sticks to fantasy/romantasy so not sure this would work for us but I love the idea! I really want to get to Eleanor Oliphant- was supposed to read it for Neurovember.
Yes it can be more complicated if you like reading different types of things. I didn't participate in Neurovember last year but I hope to this year. Eleanor Oliphant would be a good pick for that!
This is such a fantastic idea! I love how much thought and care went into choosing books for your sisters-it really shows how well you know them (or at least hope you do! 😆). The Only One Left was such an entertaining read, and I Must Betray You was SO good-I couldn’t put it down. Also, I’ve read The Sea of Tranquility and The Glass Hotel, but somehow I’ve never gotten around to Station Eleven... I should probably fix that! Now I’m tempted to do a book exchange like this myself. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts as you read through your stack!
Haha, yes, I am so excited to hear how they like the ones I picked. And then I'll use that data for choosing this year's books too if I need to amend my lists based on their feedback. 🤣So glad to hear that you liked I Must Betray You as well! It was such a good book. I haven't yet read anything else by that author, but I've heard good things. What did you think of The Sea of Tranquility?
This is such a fun idea and I hope y'all create it as a new Christmas tradition! :) As you read the books each month, you'll think of the sister who gifted it to you! :)
Yess it was such a fun gift idea and I hope we keep it going as a tradition!
This is such a good idea! I love that you could all know what to get each other, but still have room to play and surprise within that, and it’s a gift that keeps on giving all year! Love it so much! And they chose such good books for you as well, I mean you did for them too, I just think your haul was such a good mix of things. And I hope Gutsy Girl helps heal your inner child, that is so sweet. 😊 We could all do with more of that!
Yes, it is so fun!! I can't remember which sister had the idea to do this, but it was a winner! I haven't started any of these books yet (my January TBR is....abundant 😂) but hopefully after I finish a few of my current reads I can dive in!
@@BonnieNicoleWrites Haha no rush, you've got 12 months! Well, 11... 10... 😄
@@ellenmadebookclub 😂😂
I've never heard of By Any Other Name, but it sounds like a really interesting story! I've heard that some people don't think Shakespeare wrote all of his plays, but I've never done any research into it myself. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on The Taming of the Shrew after reading Picoult's book.
It's certainly a very interesting idea! I want to do a bit of research about it before I read my Shakespeare pick. But it's definitely making me much more interested and intrigued!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! 101 book is so amazing 😍 Last month for me was not it. I had to push myself to read, which is surprising to me because I thought I'd be on full vacay relaxing mode but apparently not 😂 Holidays mean hanging out with family a lot more. Not bad, but I needed to readjust my expectations. I can't wait to see how you do your wrap ups because that sounds SO smart. I might borrow the idea (but I might want to do some videos like you, where you talk about specific books). The Reappearance of Rachel Price has been on my TBR for a long time -- now I'm going to try to get it on audio because I want to get into my thriller/mystery era. LOL Dickens making your life harder but I'm here for him, I'm sorry 😭 I cannot wait to see what you think about The Winners. I have about 5 days left on my audiobook but I'm mentally scared because I'm so emotionally attached to these characters. 🥹 I don't know how he is able to allow us to be frustrated about some characters but also let us to know their quirks & love them.
Definitely understand about adjusting expectations! The best part about holidays is the extra time with loved ones, so I'm glad you got that time! Hopefully January will pick back up for you in the reading department. Definitely feel free to borrow my idea! haha! Ooh I hope you enjoy Reappearance of Rachel Price when you get to it!! Hahaha Dickens is so great! He seems to have a radar for when I'm filming. Or for when I close a door. 🤣He's a good boy. Did you end up finishing The Winners? I have had some slower reading days the last few days so I haven't made much progress yet. But I'm hoping to pick it back up today. I definitely get being mentally scared though!
Congrats on your year on BookTube! What a great month of reading - looking forward to your finds in the New Year!
Thank you so much!!
Wow I love your new haircut! It looks fabulous on you. And reading twelve books in a month is quite the accomplishment. I can’t wait to get back to my library but it’s closed because of the snow storm. 😢
Thank you so much!! I appreciate that! It's been a fun change for my hair! Oh no so sad about your library being closed! I hope that you can get back to it soon.
Celebrating the end of the slump!! 🎉🎉 And wow, 12 books! I read 2 novellas and 2 short stories at the end of the year so no shame there haha. I like the idea of doing highlights for your wrap ups. I got The Reappearance of Rachel Price for Christmas and can’t wait to read it! Love a good cat interruption 😂🙄 Glad you’re reading Frankenstein and The Winners! I loved it so much and still love Benji ❤️
haha exactly! Sometimes we just can use the extra boost at the end of the year! Thanks for the feedback about doing highlights. I was a little unsure how it would work/flow but I think it will end up being a good fit for me. Ooh yay I hope you enjoy The Reappearance of Rachel Price!! What a fun Christmas gift. haha Dickens likes to think he's a TH-cam star apparently! And I'm SO glad to hear that you finished The Winners and still love Benji! I would have been devastated if Backman had done something to alter his character in some way. Although, knowing Backman, it would have been done for good reason if he had to. 🤣
Thanks for this video, Bonnie! :) I'm a strong Christian. I very much applaud men and women who are strong enough to leave cults. I've never been in a cult, but just knowing that there are people out there who manipulate others (yes, even in Jesus' name) angers me. So when I hear of people who escape that culture, I can't help but feel happy for their victories. :)
I appreciate your kind words. It angers me as well and I am so proud of those who are able to break out and share their stories.
Good choice with doing highlights! A well trained wife sounds very powerful, I know you talked about it before too. I think you’re brave to try it and I’m glad it worked out for you! By any other name sounds interesting as well! I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it before, but since you’re intrigued now, there’s a book called Shakespeare was a woman and other heresies by Elizabeth Winkler. Her sister Caroline Winkler has a TH-cam (same name) so that’s where I heard about it and they did a video talking about it. It’s nonfiction but sounded like more narrative and suspenseful nonfiction. Check it out if you want 😊
I'm so glad I ended up trying it! Such a powerful read for me. Ooh thanks so much for the recommendations! I'm definitely going to check it out. I really do want to learn more about it all!
95 books is amazing!! I love hearing stats they’re so interesting to me 🤣 you read such a variety of genres!! I’ve been hearing so many good things about bear town, hoping to get to it in 2025!! So interesting I loved divine rivals so much more than fourth wing, although I did also like fourth wing, but divine rivals I read as a combo with the audiobook and I think that really helped!
Reading stats are SO fun to me! I hope that you enjoy Beartown when you get to it. It's such a good read, although heavy as well. I can definitely see how a combo read would be helpful for Divine Rivals!
I loved this video! You really took a lot of prep for this video and it shows. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as well as some insights. I agree - Booktube has opened up many friendships for me as well! :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate it. I think that the friendships are one of the best parts of BookTube!
Seems like you had quite a good reading year ^^ I really liked the variety of prompts! I hope you have a great 2025, reading-wise and in general!
Thank you so much!! I hope your 2025 is amazing as well!
I'm fully here for the stats!! Now that I've been mixing up my formats, I might have to add combo in as well, that's pretty smart to add! I also really like to compare your stats with mine while I'm watching your video 😂 The biggest difference in a similar category is our length, most of mine were 200's but I blame the fact that I'm a manga/manhwa readers -- they're usually 100-200 per book (or less than 300). I think I will also have to add thrift/secondhand books to my sheet as well since I've started doing that. And here I thought I was done updating my sheet LOL. I also love seeing how much money you saved for 2024 too -- that's an AMAZING AMOUNT. I wish we had more people doing stats on that because it'll really show how accessible reading is as a hobby 😍 This year has been amazing as well, really do love meeting everyone and chatting with everyone 🥹 This End of Year Tag is a little bit different, and I haven't seen this mix variation you made!! Especially with specific books that highlights different categories/genres. I definitely was able to predict all of your top 4 (not top 5 because I wasn't prepared!! 😂😂) Is Fourth Wing YA???? WITH THE SMUT? I'm always shook with there's smut in YA 😳 LOL, "prefer not to have orange/red flags in MC"... meanwhile I'm a RED FLAG lover 😭But only in fiction. 100% also agree with Benji. His character was amazing, and even while people try to label him negatively, he's still a great person. I think 2024 was an awesome year for you after hearing everything. Happy New Year, Bonnie and here's to 2025 for both of us 🥰
I have still never read a manga!! I need to try one! I do think it's quite interesting to track the combo reads, although this is the first year I've really tracked that. Same for the secondhand books. Although I think this is the first year I've actually bought books at a thrift store!! I love saving money with reading. Books are SO expensive and it's so nice to have more affordable options. Hahaha had to keep you on your toes by throwing in that 5th top read. 🤣 Love that you predicted the other 4! I can't even with smut books being marketed as YA! I understand that technically YA is 12-18 and I know some 18 year olds might want to read it. But 12? Being in the same category? Some of it is just too much for that age!! Hahaha the red flags! I have to admit the first time I heard someone say "I love a red flag in fiction but not in real life" I was stunned. But you know I have listened and learned 😂 and I understand that there is a big difference. I think there's always just that part of me that's thinking about the person who picks it up and thinks that's ok to translate to real life. I know part of that is my own baggage from my upbringing, reacting to those relationships being normalized. So when I take a step back and remember that there are adults with fully capable brains and intuitions who read these books and can separate fantasy from reality....I can calm down some. 😂 It's still not for me, but not everything is for everybody.
Bonnie, I tagged you to do the Evolution Of A Booktuber tag created by Jackie @spreadbookjoy. It’s airing on Tuesday.
Totally agree that we don’t have to have the same opinions about books! I absolutely loved Stone blind, but you don’t have to! 😊 Expectations play such a big role, and one person’s pleasant surprise is another’s confused disappointment 😂 That is just as it should be! Loved watching this! Happy New Year! 🎆 💜 I’m so happy to have connected with you on here!
It is definitely interesting to note how much my expectations can affect a book, one way or the other. I try to generally go in with no expectations, but sometimes I don't even realize I have expectations until I'm partway through. 😂 I love how you worded that about one person's pleasant surprise being another's confused disappointment. it's so true and I love it!
Love your top 3 reads of the year! I also loved Fourth Wing, Beartown, and Funny Story! (I’m sure the other 2 you mentioned are great - I just haven’t read them!) Also, Onyx Storm comes out in a few weeks! I hope you’re excited!
I'm so glad you enjoyed those 3 as well! They were such good reads this year! I am definitely excited for Onyx Storm, but I have to admit that the closer it gets, the more nervous I become! What will Rebecca do to us now?? 🤣
Thank you for inspiring me to read and write more!
Thank YOU for inspiring ME!!
Sounds like you had a pretty good reading year! I hope 2025 goes well for you, and also that you enjoy Les Mis when you get to it!
Thank you so much!! I hope it is a wonderful year for you as well!
I love the sentimental thoughts haha, and totally agree! So cool to be able to connect with so many different people from all over the world and have internet friends to talk about books with, love it. Fourth Wing was one of my top books of 2023 and Beartown was for 2022 and this year too since e it was a re-read! Funny Story and Just For the Summer were some faves from this year too, and I also liked JFTS slightly more 😊 I liked Divine Rivals and Stone Blind but I totally get your reasons for feeling like they were overhyped, those things kept me from rating them higher than I did. Benji has my heart forever ❤️ So glad you found lots of new favorites this year! And 90 feels like a good reading goal number if you want to take more time with your reading, I think I’ll keep mine at 75 so I can guarantee that I’ll succeed, haha that always feels good.
It's so amazing to me! Life and the world can be crazy sometimes, but also there is so much beauty and I love that some of the beauty of these times is that the internet and social media can connect people! Ahhh love that you loved so many of the same ones and, of course, Benji!! I just started The Winners (literally only a few pages in) and I'm here for Benji! 75 is a great number! I think it's great having goals sometimes that push you...but also I love a goal that is attainable. And especially for reading..don't we want goals we know we can succeed at?? 😂 Way more fun that way!!
Great video as always, I’m going to have to read Beartown soon, it’s been bothering my TBR for a while now. Have a happy new year 😊
Yesss it's well worth the read in my opinion! I hope you enjoy it whenever you get to it.
Happy New Year! Have you Frederick Backman's 'Anxious People'? That was a great book. Also, the TV show was just as good. Have you read 'The People We Meet On Vacation,' or Beach Read,' by Emily Henry? I loved them too. I think her writing is very sweet.
Yes, I have read Anxious People! I did really enjoy it. I haven't seen the TV show, though! I'll have to check where it's streaming. I have read all of Emily Henry's books so far. I wasn't a huge fan personally of People We Meet, but Beach Read is one of my favorites by her!!
Love your new haircut! It suits you so well!! 😍 My hair does that too curling to one side 😅
Thank you so much!! Haha glad it's not just me! It's kind of fun. :)
I haven't heard the name Sue Monk Kidd in ages! I remember reading The Mermaid Chair when I was a teenager. Haven't read The Secret Life of Bees but I agree with your assessment of centering a white character with the backdrop of the civil right's movement, it seems icky.
I wasn't too familiar with her, other than hearing about The Secret Life of Bees. Apparently she's written several other things as well. What did you think of The Mermaid Chair? I'm curious if her other books are better or if they also contain questionable/icky elements.
@@BonnieNicoleWrites I honestly don't remember much of it because I read it back in the early 2000s. I think I thought it was a pleasant beach read at the time but my taste has certainly evolved since then haha.
@@Megzi14 haha I totally get that!
YES! I do love the new hair 😍 Yes to all the library books!! We need more stats of how people get their books to show that the library is so valuable!! Even unscripted, you're so great at summarizing your thoughts and feelings. I'm going to be adding The Woman They Could Not Silence! I'm not going to lie, I'm interested in Truly, Madly, Deeply 😂 Seems like the kind of book I'd enjoy. I haven't heard any of these books, and I love hearing your opinions on that -- especially about The Secret Life of Bees. I get the vibe you're feeling, and agreed! I cannot wait to hear everything about your stats at the end of the year. I WAS in a reading slump for November!! Averaged a lot less books with a lot lower star rating so had a slower start to my December reading but it's going better now! Favorite read for November was The Dragon's Republic!
Thank you!! ❤ I adore the library stats and I adore my library. Library vibes are immaculate. Thanks for your kind words about the summaries! I feel like I'm starting to find my groove (sometimes anyway 🤣) with speaking more comfortably in front of the camera. I was literally thinking of you as I read Truly, Madly, Deeply!! I think you might like it! I would be interested in more by the author as well sometime. Took me a long time to edit the video, but it's finally posted! I had fun with the stats! I'm glad that Dec started to pick up for you. I definitely feel like Dec has brought me out of my reading slump as well, which is a great feeling!
Very cute haircut!
Thank you!!
I haven't heard of most of these books. I'll have to go look into them. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Frankenstein!
I was hoping to finish Frankenstein this month, but with all the holiday busy-ness, I think it will be finished in January. I'm quite intrigued so far!
@BonnieNicoleWrites I understand that. I was hoping to get through so many books this month and I'm probably not even getting to half of them 😆
@@Coffee_and_a_Book There's always the New Year! 🤣
I love the haircut! It looks so cute ^^ It suits you really well. The Woman they could not silence sounds like such a difficult read indeed... but such an important story! Ahah did you inadvertently participate in Neurovember with The Reason I Jump? ^^ so funny
Thank you!! ❤ Definitely important and definitely hard. She really paved the way for a lot of reform in that area, but it is so absolutely heartbreaking what she (and so many others) had to go through to achieve any element of reform. Yesss!! I was so happy when I realized that it would count for Neurovember!!
My favorite read recently is “Light from Uncommon Stars” by Ryka Aoki!
I will look that up!!
Cute haircut! Gotta love when our hair has a mind of its own 😂 I always see The Secret Life of Bees at the thrift store and sometimes consider picking it up! Very helpful to hear your thoughts and totally agree with your take on the best way to convey themes of racism and black stories, probably don’t need to be featuring a white character for that… Yay for hopefully getting out of a book slump! Hope you enjoy your December reads 😊❄️
Thank you!! Haha, for sure! Yes, I definitely think there are other ways that could have told the story much better! And in a much more respectful way. December has been a great reading month! I think I'm out of my reading slump!
Your hair looks super cute! 😊 The Woman they could not silence sounds really heavy. The moment you said "the problem was that she had opinions" I was immediately mad. The problem was that the self-centered, fragile, and scared little men couldn't handle the fact that she had opinions. It does sound like a very important story, well done for powering through. I also get the second guessing of your own experiences. No wonder, given the previous book, and how voices have been silenced and downplayed throughout time. A lot of that still lingers. For anyone who has been put in a follower kind of role, whether in a cult or a relationship or family or whatever. It takes a lot to keep clinging to your own truth sometimes. I really appreciated hearing your thoughts about The Secret Lives of Bees as well, I've only heard good things but I don't really have a grasp of the story. Well, a better grasp now that you have explained it! It's always tricky reading things about an era and it not being of the silenced voices... I feel like there's a pretty strong theme to your reading this month! Maybe that has something to do with the slumpiness? The Small and the Mighty sounds so good, an maybe empowering, but I feel like it could also include a lot of silenced voices, so maybe it's a good one to save for later. I hope you will enjoy your December reads and that they fill you up with positive energy and light!
Thank you so much!! YES, your reframe is spot on. The Woman They Could Not Silence was SO good but so awful. It truly highlighted the fragility of so many men and the strength of women. And the way that that strength is not a strength that any human should ever have to call on but Elizabeth, and many others, are forced to. Very good read. But heartbreaking. Learning your own truth and learning to stand firm in it can be quite the thing to learn (or re-learn!). There are so many layers to it. I didn't even intentionally pick a theme in November, but I do feel like November and the last several months actually, have had some pretty similar themes. I'm curious if that will continue into January or not! I do think I'm out of my slump, though, so that's good!!
@@BonnieNicoleWrites Yeah I think I have a similar theme going on as well. It's both depressing and empowering at the same time. I'm happy to hear you're out of the slump! 😊
Yessss! Came after just reading Here One Moment and I cant agree with you more about Liane’s writing ability! The depth and relatability that she is able to produce with her characters is PHENOMENAL!
Yesss! Her characters are just so incredibly real and believable. I admire her writing so much! I still haven't read Here One Moment (coming out of a massive book slump at the moment) but I am really really excited for when I get to it.
4:44 Reading the experiences with the monster can be so emotional and the movies doesnt give you the full effect- the book's better. Frankenstein is my favorite book of all time (it's a scifi, philosophical, mystery, thriller, dark academia, suspense, and written like a fantasy- I love it so much😆).
That definitely makes sense! You are making me that much more excited to get into it! I finally started it this week, but I haven't gotten too far into it yet.
So cool!!!! ❤ And of course it wasn't terrible!
Haha well thanks for believing in me!! It's always a good confidence boost to read something you wrote and like it and feel excited!
This is a great inspiration for me!! I really want to sit down and actually write!
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you get your chance to sit down and write. ❤
