Thanks for the video. I bought a MinnowFish carb in 1975 and ran on a VW Beetle for a couple of years. I am currently dusting it off out of storage and will put on another VW Beetle. It would be great to hear how you go with setting up your carb on your formula vee and to hear more about Bob's life and dedication to the carb.
This works 100% because I’ve just done it on my Vivaro, I stuck two wires in and wired it to my DeWalt drill battery and pressed the key and up it popped!
Absolutely brilliant - worked a treat. Thanks.
Glad it helped 👌😀
Very dangerous practice back feeding powder into bcm! This can damage bcm(uch) and cost you big money.
Interesting, I've not seen any reports of this sort of damage. Do you have any examples I could study?
@andiminthegarage7081 Just look at a wiring diagram! This is pure stupidly and asking for a massive repair bill.
@royritchie4184 ok, show me the wiring diagram and explain how damage can occur. Like I've said, I've seen no reports of damage caused in this way. If you have knowledge of instances of damage, please share them as I'm genuinely interested.
@@andiminthegarage7081There's no way of posting a wiring diagram on youtube! But common sense tells you not to force power down wiring the wrong way into a bcm driver transistor.
@royritchie4184 fair enough, though all I can say is it worked for me, and other people have tried it without issues. I'll concede that it could, in theory, cause an issue with the BCM, though I've yet to hear of any problems caused by using this method of opening a van with a flat battery. Thanks for pointing out the possible risk. 👌
is the rack force for the wheel hard or light ?
Thanks, it works, one thing to add is if you want to connect another car or vans battery while its on the other car than please disconnect at least one of its terminals or it will not work
This shit looks like such a good time
Why are the steering links so song? Doesn't that induce bump steer?
Don't hold back Phil 👍 Have you thought about buying an aeroplane 🤣
Just stumbled on to your channel. Looks like a lot of fun! A lot of the cars were all over the track. We’re track temps low?
We had torrential rain for most of the day, and the track was still damp, it was cold, and our tyres were struggling for grip...😮
Not that I would do any better, but you, my friend, suck at this. Those racing lines?
I've got some of Palmers gravel. We could do some landscaping together 😂😂
Thanks I must look for one of these Minnow Fish carbs and try it. Or possibly use two? I currently run a 1 3/4 inch SU carb on my 1600 single port VW street engine (ported heads, W100 cam, light flywheel etc etc) and despite the naysayers it runs well. Come to think of it I have a 1275 A series that needs a carb too....
I ran a Reece Fish on my mini for a while (could not afford a Minnow). VERY easy to install and tune. It was brilliant in fine weather but if cool and/or wet, it iced up really badly. The result was around 8mpg.
I've heard icing can be a problem. 😮
I remember the fish carb back in the seventies by repute it doubled the milage of yank tanks.????
The Argyll GT looks like a grown up Clan Crusader, the front end has many styling cues from that car in particular, with the back end slightly less so. The problem with the Webers is that they have a poor progression circuit such that they are often likened to a switch - all or nothing. A far better option is the Dellorto DLRA carb, which has a much better progression circuit that improves mid range torque and even better still when its combined with the update kit that substitutes a spray bar instead of the secondary venturi to aid flow and fuel dispersion/atomisation. This extra flow and atomisation improves mid-range torque that results in quicker pick up out of the corners. Dells are know for better outputs than the IDFs on a size for size and with the update kit you can confidently drop a size to improve bottom end torque whilst still retaining top end power. The Fish carb certainly was a good alternative back in the day but things move on and I don't think the Fish has? The Fish shown here concerns me somewhat in that the flow looks to be restricted by the whole butterfly arrangement with thick spindle and chunky brackets. On a conventional carb the butterfly can be slimmed down substantially for even more flow but the hollow Fish spindle looks to prevent that.
I agree about Webbers vs, DRLA. Used the latter on a Ford Escort and it had good progression where the Weber is more like mechanical fuel injection on a drag car: All or nothing.
@@martinharris5017 Lotus used Dells in preference to Webers on the Elite/Esprit/Eclat range with the 2.2lire engine despite having a history of using Webers previously and as we know, Lotus only do things to aid performance.
With regard to the butterfly, my understanding is 😅 shape and size is instrumental in promoting good atomisation of the fuel in conjunction with the holes in the throttle spindle. I remember Bob saying that his primary concern (with both the carbs and forced induction) was the quality of the charge over the quantity. I believe loss of flow with the "chunky" butterfly is offset by the efficiency of the system. Hopefully, I'll get them running, and we will know for sure 😂
@@andiminthegarage7081 Atomisation is a key component but you need to fill the cylinders to get the most power and that comes with good flow. This is why fuel injection scores so well in that the inlet tract is optimised for flow and then the fuel is sprayed into it in as fine a mist as can be reasonably achieve (there is also an optimum fuel droplet size) One of the points I was trying to make is that as two chokes are allowed in some versions of Formula Vee and it appears that the option is a pair of Fishes or an IDF Weber then it would seem to me that a better alternative than the IDF is the DRLA with the update kit.
Used a 1.5 minnow fish and fast road cam from Bob back in the late 60's early 70's with great results. Car was an Austin 1300 and it produced in excess of 70BHP at the wheels on Bobs rolling road. Excellent setup, the fish has been used on several cars since always with great results. I still have the carb and I would love to find a reasonable priced 1275 engined car to put it on.
When you moved the Fish carb between cars, have you had to recalibrate it much?
@@andiminthegarage7081 Since it was always being moved between 1275 A series engines not too much adjustment was required. Usually just a slight tweek to the mixture and the slow running.
I run a 1 5/8 fish on my 134 flathead willys I drive to work everyday, great carbs, need help no problem.
Good to hear Fish carbs are still in daily use 👍👌
Will you have them on for Donnington? It looks so simple compared to a Weber. Very interesting design.
Unfortunately, not. I had some piston and bore damage to repair, which took up time. To be honest, it's a slightly bigger task than I had imagined 🤣🤣
@@andiminthegarage7081 Better to play it safe so late in the season. Better the devil you know.
I like it sir, keep it up
Thanks. I will.
Loved the video. Keep them coming. Good luck at Brands 🤞🤞
Great video. Really enjoyed it. Like the mix of in-car and out of car video. Good stuff. I'm a Vintage Vee racer in the U.S.. Keep the videos coming!
I'm telling you, between races, these guys across the pond are doing something different than us. Its awesome to see documented.
grate video just a bit of welding
Great video and story behind it. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. I just wish the story was, occasionally, Phil has no problems and wins a trophy...🤣🤣🤣🏆🏁
You pulled two good manoeuvres on Tim Probert, glad he was looking in his mirrors. Motorsport has a habit of kicking you in the nuts, but your luck is bound to change, a bit of drama does good viewing though, not what you want to hear. Respect you do it all yourself. Looking forward to the next installment.👍
What track is this?? Man the U.K has some sick tracks
It's Cadwell Park. It is affectionately known as the mini Nürburgring because of the challenging mountain section. A great track to drive!
@@andiminthegarage7081 it looks it, I'm super jealous I'd love to race my Vee around there!!
@@andiminthegarage7081 dude Iracing are releasing this track in a few weeks so I'll be able to drive a virtual Vee around there. 👌
Hell of a save on lap 10. I thought for sure you lost it
Thanks! It put a smile on my face... 😁😁
Subscribed. Good stuff, I'm hoping to get into racing Vees here in the states one day since it is amazingly economical for motorsports.
It's almost definitely the least expensive form of single-seater circuit racing you can do
I'd love some info to go with the vid, what class is this, whats the vehicle specs etc
These are UK spec Formula Vee. Based around the running gear of a classic VW beetle utilising the front beam, brakes, with the 1300cc single port and gearbox, producing around 100bhp at the flywheel. This car is a Scarab mk5. Anything else you'd like to know, please ask.
19:56 see ya 👋
Hey man, I'm watching your videos for some time now. And I always wanted to be a racing driver but I don't have a racing school in my city and lots of money. But with you I learned about Formula Vee and I want to race in Formula wee I don't know how to be can you make a video about how to be a Formula Vee driver?
Whereabouts are you based?
@@andiminthegarage7081hey man thank you for answering, I am born and still in turkiye but I am 17 so Im thinking about studying abroad for college I don’t know where I’ll go honestly but I am really into racing and I will do anything to get into it I know its really hard and even harder for me in this situation but racing is my passion and I am currently racing on a sim but I really need a guidance I know I can’t get into racing maybe in next few years because of where I live and of course my funding but I will try everything I just need a guide. Thank you again for answering just guide me the ways
Just found you. Love a Formula Vee and congrats on the save in turn 1 (I think)
Not a bad result for a boogie track
Hi, hope your well. Just wondering if you could give me some advice. So I'm trying to save up my pennies this year to get a Vee to race. I'm based in East Yorkshire. I've only raced competively in karts so far so it's all pretty new to me. What should I be looking at when viewing a vee, anything that'd make it a no go? My budget's ~£7000. I've been looking on 750's website and Race Cars direct but haven't seen much. If you know anyone who might be considering selling a vee I'd love to get in touch. Cheers and good luck with the season. Hope to see you in the paddocks soon.
You should definitely try and make it to a race this season. We've got Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, and Donington left. Let me know if you fancy coming to one of those. Find my Facebook page "And I'm in the Garage", and you can message me through there if you like. facebook.com/share/Lu8Y46qj1xLSSAAb/
@@andiminthegarage7081Thanks for the reply. I'll try make it to one of those. Do you have an updated calender for the rest of the season, 750's site may be incorrect. Hopefully I'll see you at Brands Hatch. I'm following you on facebook so I'll send you a message if I can make it 👍
Great race craft there my friend! from a sim racer 😅 You're living my dream ! Awesome video 👍 👌

Hi there. Great video. Congrats on the great result. Can you tell me please what camera you are using? Also is there a special configuration and/or app you are using to have so many information on the screen? Thank you so much. Best regards from Brazil.
The camera is GoPro Hero 7 Black and the data is an app called RaceChrono Pro (on Apple amd Androod) on my phone, linked to a Garmin Glo GPS module for better accuracy. It gives some great data. You download the GoPro footage to the app, and this is the result 😁😁
@@andiminthegarage7081 Thank you so much for the information.
:o
This was awesome. How much effect does slipstream have on these cars? I saw that you left the trailing earlier than I expected, but I have also never driven these before so I became curious. Great content. 😄
The slip stream has quite an effect. My race craft is poor, so I'm not using it to my advantage, but I'm working on it!!
