An Update on What I've Been Doing
I've been off TH-cam for a long time, I've scaled down my collecting and focused on other things. I am still buying cards and watching some TH-cam channels on the Hobby though.

And given it's size and all of the airbrushing you'd figure this set would ooze variations but it doesn't... There are a few variations however they have nothing to do with the airbrushing, but rather the black border that lines the photo.. On a handful of the cards that black border is broken, but there isn't much in the way of value.. The other variations are the notorious Al Kaline "band-aid" variation - and the coaches cards with different shades of Orange - that - and a few coaches are missing ears on some cards and not on others.... Nothing of any real value outside of the Kaline.
Just rewatched this again. Please make more! So well done.
How do you know the price?
Hoping Tiant gets inducted in 2025 since he's on the classic committee's list! Definitely miss your videos. Hope you are doing well. Surprised Munson didn't make the nomination list.
Do you still have these cards?
I sat on a bank board with Herb Washington years back. He was a terrific guy.
Slab Gate summer of 2019 made me leave the hobby . Switched over to CGC graded Comic Books (mostly silver age ) . CGC has been having its own case problems in the last year you might want to look into ( books swapped out of old cases new cases bending books ) Anyway you should make a video of the comics you got there Spiderman 2 is great KEY in any graded ! Good Luck Todd
Dude, I think people are making fakes. I can make one hell of a fake.. not sure if someone could tell the difference
I like your video.I think PSA IS TRING TO CONTROL THE MARKET. WHO OWNS THESE PAS 10
Love the jive music. Butters! Pure butters!
Do you feel that the high number series in 1967 topps dissuades collectors from building this set?
Keith: I came across your channel only yesterday and so wish I did years ago! What lectures in collecting you deliver! I have returned to the hobby in 1989, picking up from when I first purchased a nickel pack of 1962 Topps baseball cards-I still remember being on my way to school (Grade One), opening it, and I was hooked! I collected mostly hockey being a Montrealer, completing the iconic Parkie and Topps/OPC sets, carefully storing each year from the set in the colourful retail box they were sold in (I convinced a couple of store owners to put them aside for me when empty). We moved from Montreal to Vancouver in 1967 and of course, all was lost... Regardless, I love what you do-keep it up!
The way I want to do it (for 1971 and 1972) is get the HOFers and CLs in PSA 7 and the rest raw NRMT in binder/pages.
That's really interesting. I never noticed how empty the stands were
Thank you Keith for educating me early on in my collecting. PSA info is s topic i always steered othet collectors to your channel. And you collect Amazing Spiderman. Me too
My favorite design of all time. Come close to buying the set, one day I will. But I’m not giving an arm and leg for a set that needs a lot of work to get in decent shape.
I got a Gavin sheets memorabilia card and Carmelo Anthony memorabilia card, seems like they’d be worth more considering their pieces of the players equipment used in game. I’m gonna hold onto them , hand em down when I have kids or something
complicit.
excellent point about the priorities around condition then vs now.
How can that Gretzky at 11:02 be a 10??
good to hear from you.
this is amazing effort.
Canadian kids obviously take better care of their cards.
Wow the amount of information that was presented was nothing short of impressive, I'm stoked to get more indepth and research baseball statistics and photo match to certain games, 😊, my hats off to you my good man , cheers
Love this set! Totally underrated. The second year I bought cards as a kid. Thanks for the video.
My favorite baseball cards, mostly because this is the first year I collected. Yes - the overall quality is questionable but I love the simple and direct design in spite of all the flaws.
Great piece! A lot of detail I was unaware of either as a 12 year old buying these or a grown man who still loves them.
Absolutely impressive research! Love your videos
Great video. Excellent do you have any updates on this current prices on the 68 Mantle are between six and $800 I would love to see current data.
I got Nolan Ryan on a baseball for free like 10 years ago!!! I’m really lucky
You pronounced his name wrong over and over. Takes away all credibility.
@@DobieMaxwellComedy ok
Martin Brenda Lee Anna Jackson Edward
INSANE amount of research needed for this video. How do you even find a box score from a ST game from 50 years ago?
@@Aubreykrendale I had to go into Newspapers.com to find it in the Florida papers.
Wait but if I measure a 1980 topps Rickey henderson to a 1981 topps Joe Montana and it lines up almost perfectly does that mean it’s not trimmed and there both 2-1/2” by 3-1/2”
You are so brilliantly stupid you do not even acknowledge manufacturers themselves admitted cards came out in different sizes, especially vending machine cards were notoriously slightly smaller, and there were differences between factories, so they would not all fit snuggly in a slab .... Sherlock. The availability of cards has jumped because more and more people are dragging them out of their closets to sell them online. End of story. The slight size variation means NOTHING Sherlock, because size variances are normal. This is just people with cards whining because their card values dropped so they are looking to disqualify other cards to drive up their own value, so YOU guys are the fraudsters.
I thought 1970 topps was cool still would love to have certain players in that set!!
I sorta like the clunky action shots. There’s something that feels like being a spectator in the stands, where your view is rarely perfect.
We need more!!!!Glad this showed up in my feed. No one was more of a pioneer on youtube and did it better than you. Thanks for sharing.
Amen brother, “ collect what you love”. 👍👍👍
What would the value of the 1999 Topps Koosman/Ryan Reprint Certified Autograph Issue with Ryan’s Autograph that you said was 1 in every 4,952 packs. I have it. No one can tell me the value of it. Need help!
You sure are right about the big ebay auction houses having higher final bid prices.
I've collected baseball cards since the 60's era and, I'm now 62 years young. The 70's brings back a lot of great memories even though Topps cards were never too good for me. We can bicker about who was the best card company in 1973 or any era but, the truth and facts remain the same. I think in 1951-1957 was when Topps was the very best, the old red background Bowman really produced some dandy cards: Sandy Koufax, Roger Maris, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobbs just to name a few.....I know! I never mentioned Mickey Mantle, sorry but, I never liked him as a baseball player, in fact most of his own teammates with the Yankees called him a name you hardly ever hear " The Villian", it was not just his confidence, he truly had an attitude no one understood. Which takes me back to the 60's when I used to go the Shea Stadium to watch the Mets play, The great one Willie May's stood out for me, the subway series between the Mets vs Yankees. They took down Shea Stadium, a childhood memory for me, now called Tinker Field. If you want to talk about a story or Topps to tell, I've seen many get out of the hobby because today 2024, it's simply not as popular as it was in the 70's, 60' or 50's simply because Topps has truly the one that lost thier way by thier own demise. I remember some of these facts you brought up in your commentary. I'm not the one that can tell you directly why Topps is losing out but, I can only give you a hint on how they can gain more credibility and, popularity again. They need to give card buyers today more chances to obtain more history of the older picture with the old red background: by putting an older picture on new card stock say: 1 in different products they sell, stop talking about foil board, relics or autographs on thier boxes and surprise the hobby again. The reason why I say this is because thier products have become so expensive with nothing to show for, us old timers keep losing out and, it's why people are leaving the hobby, more thefts are occurring, you want truth and, fact.....? These are the facts!!!
I had an absolutely beautiful Johnny Bench from this set. At the time I bought it in late 70s, this was the most expensive Johnny Bench card out there due to it being a high number. Even more than the rookie. Wish I still had it.
Well...just watched one of your other videos ('73 Topps set). Said I was a new subscriber. Now disappointed to watch this video and find out your phasing out TH-cam videos. Oh well. There's obviously still a bunch of new videos you've created that I haven't seen. Look forward to watching them.
Excellent video!! It's funny, I find those quirky strange "action shots" to be some of my favorite cards of all time. By the way, love the background info on the George Scott card. Great stuff! You found a new fan and subscriber.
Today he would be a Dodgers reclamation project!
It's a crooked world out there in any business, This is no different. There's always gonna be an angle or will benefit some more than others.
Also, the reason PSA doesn't catch all is cause of SO MANY submissions, they I'm sure are hurrying through the most they can and if it's an employee who just lazy enough than the other person they're gonna drop the ball.
Just one's opinion, painting in spots on cards and trimming cards is altering, just removing glue, wax, gum stains if one can I wouldn't say is altering. Example, I buy a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass original paint car, I'm gonna wash, wet sand and buff that car. Is that altering a car? Yes, repainting a car is restoration nor preservation.
I'm 60 been out of the hobby since early 90's. I didn't know card grading has been around since then. I've been saying this all along since getting back into, it's a joke and a real gamble on getting a 10 on any card because of human element and obviously devious scams by PSA
