Well done - I may not be a fan of the rap (another comment from a kid said, "I am 47" LOL) BUT am a fan of the words for sure :D I just wrote this on Substack: "Overt religious emotional blackmail often baits with an obvious incredulous hook then sways into the wounded warrior who is overly apologetic for offending." I hear Calvinists play this - and that is exactly what you say here! Warren, our lives display all these we see in 2 Timothy 3 and the book of Jude - and we fight to keep aligned with our Savior in 1 Cor 13 and 1 John 4 - all contrasts I can't comprehend fully and keep saying it over and over. "Put these verses in your pocket" I hear the Lord say, 1 Cor 13:4-7 & 1 John 4:7-8 & Philippians 4:8-9

I’ve been thinking a lot about how most of the Calvinistic arguments go, it seems quite myopic. -Here look at this verse in isolation and dissect the syntax It’s always ignore the Forrest and focus on individual leaves on a tree from an odd angle. And then you are forced to go back and forth with different prooftexts instead of simply acknowledging the Forrest of evidence that points the other way. The entire narrative of the Bible points to God having a Good, holy, loving Character, so when encounter a verse and take it to mean that God is a delighter of partiality, a lover of uneven scales, the author of evil, or the father of lies then you need to go back to the drawing board. It’s the same playbook that Satan used- Here’s this one verse in isolation, now jump from this building Jesus- But the whole Narrative of the Bible tells you that although God promises to protect us, that doesn’t mean we are to test him via jumping from buildings or dancing around with poisonous snakes. It’s so easy to take individual verses and weave them together to say whatever you want them to, it’s what every cult from the branch davidians, to Mormons do. The key is not in dissecting individual verses, but rather in understanding the biblical narrative as a whole

To me, any deterministic ideology is hardly different than atheism (Platonism, Gnosticism, Stoicism, Geneticism). The early church had to deal with it all and it's no different today.

@@IdolKiller2 Hi Warren. I've read though multiple documents of that name, as well and searching for particular words in the quote in the docs, but cannot find it. Do you by any chance have a link to the correct sermon that I can read through?
After looking for the source of the original quote I've located a couple different citations, all attributing it to John Wesley, but each pointing to a different original source. Some have noted it was in a Sermon, another said his diary, another still said it was in one of the volumes of his work. I find no one contesting he is the source of the quote, but locating that exact source has proven to be a challenge. I'd likely need to purchase a couple books or track them down at a library.

If you want to get a little feel for where I am coming from I do have some podcast episodes on my channel from a while back where a friend and I start delving into the character of God.
