The meat of the run from tunnel through Chinese is no worse than before (except nowhere to land).
The runout has lost a number of good rapids

The Bible lists the runnable range as -2” to 3”. We put on at about 7”, and steady rain kept it there. The road was closed so we bushwhacked in from the skyway which left us pretty pressed for time. Hallway had a massive boxed in hole at the bottom. We portaged a number of other rapids for the same issue. Hardly any wood
Piney mountain AKA “Mystery creek” low

As is, this run is simply too full of wood to be worth doing. However, I think it is well worthy of some attention. With the wood cleared out this would be a great option for when everything else is blown out. Plenty of good rapids in a beautiful gorge. West fork pigeon and road prong were both high when we ran this, and it could still use more water. We parked at sugar creek Baptist church for...

This one hardly gets done due to the complete lack of gauges or visuals. There is not a single road in the watershed, there’s a 1.5 mile hike in from the top and a 1 mile lake paddle at the bottom. We paid two fishermen to give us a ride across the lake to get a visual. Your other options are to paddle across or just take a guess and commit to the hike in. It’s worth it
Courthouse Creek ~1ft 1500cfs

Super sweet run and felt like plenty of water, despite being low according to the good book. 2 laps in 3 hours including scouting and portaging twice for wood. *1ft read is from takeout bridge, not headwaters outfitters

Highly underrated run. Ran this two days prior at 450 cfs. The Bible says this is minimum but I would highly disagree, very little scraping the slow stuff just gets slower. Left line at Maytag has wood and none of us wanted to find out if the right line was padded enough

Usgs west fork pigeon was ~2400cfs and falling Low water bridge was boofable when we walked up and almost dry when we got back Everyone walked the first big slide due to the level and what Chris Harjes says is a new rock, as well as the big rapid halfway through the run due to level *UPDATE* After consulting topo maps and books it appears that the section we ran is just the lower mile of little...

~60cfs This video was made purely for club purposes I DID NOT enjoy this run what do you think I am some sort of masochist who enjoys hitting rocks no anything with less than four digits cfs is MANK and therefore ruins the experience of paddling entirely
Ruby fork-anthracite 1100cfs
มุมมอง 545ปีที่แล้ว
We hiked in about two miles downstream of where Kebler pass road crosses the ruby fork to cut off some of the mankier class V. From there to where the dark canyon trail accesses the river we had five portages for wood including a .5 mile portage around the biggest rapid on the run which was shut down and only one real runnable rapid. The section below the dark canyon trail had only one wood por...

Thanks for sharing. New lines to be had.
Shout out Johnson Branch 🤘🏾
I don't even recognize it from the last time I was on the river, crazy. Thanks for the video and new perspective
The run out has grown on me! I think we just need half slices at these flows
@@thomasmattingly3731 that’s actually a really good point lol idk why I didn’t think of that
Doesn’t even look like the south east
Anybody run gorilla yet?
2:42 bonk
Licking the lens of your GoPro will keep the water droplets down
Need to raise that camera about 20 degrees on the mount... nice video though. Glad to see the aftermath.
@@_Coffee4Closers I know right?? Hate it when it’s off by just a little
Jamie in a Jackson. Never thought I’d see it.
You didn’t see shit
As someone who's never been, it used to look like manky fun. Now it just looks manky.. is this stretch still going to be a popular run do you think?
@@TraveltoPaddle with some time, and with the powerhouse rebuilt, it will still see a good amount of traffic. But probably not like it was
@@jamesmoloney7725 it's sad that it won't be how it was and I'm gutted to have missed the lines that I thought I'd get to run one day, but I do hope you're right and it cleans up and people keep paddling that famous river!
It may take years, potentially many years, for the bed to stabilize again, and it's hard (or impossible) to say what it will look like when it does.
Another winter or two where the storms can only move the small boulders and not the big ones and it'll probably move some of the mank and fill stuff in.
Wow!
Is the sneak line even a possibility at go left now? Didn’t look like it from that angle
No. It’s completely dry.
that sieve is insane
Many thanks for the video.
How could you not devote more time to showing what gorilla looks like now?
Denial
No Rebar?
Not that we could see
Bumpy
Wild. Hate I missed out on Green 1.0.
Crazy as shit dude. Could we say the first crew back in at 1 gen? Hammer factor looked fucked up
Thanks for putting this up, Jamie. So many changes.
I don't want to say this, but can you show me the lines? Gotta get out there soon
Is Gorilla runnable anymore?
Columbus is still there, just need someone to probe it
no
Awesome! Coolest bit of river I've ever seen
Nice one :)
Was this a first Descent?
@@mayrbmx second or third I believe
There’s some other falls upstream on the other tributary. Not sure if they’re runnable. Haven’t been up there in years & wasn’t a kayaker at the time.
@@IraFowler3 on bearwallow or piney? I’ve been up both bearwallow has been run I believe piney looks stout but maybe doable?
@@jamesmoloney7725 I'm referring to Piney Mountain although there are falls on both. I don't think the one on Bearwallow is runnable. But some of the stuff on Piney Mountain might be but you're right could be stout.
I loved that run, such a good level
Little bit of tree work and this run would be wicked nice.
I would have been dead in 20 different spots in this short clip. Glad you guys are ok.

Goons trying to drop in 😂point break 😂😂😂😂 jk awesome job 👏
brings back great memories from the 90's
Where did u take out at ? Looks like there is a second gorge as well
We took out on long water gulch road because there’s absolutely no beta on the second gorge. Next time I’m going to the lake tho
solid
Looks dope that’s been on my list for a long time !! How long it take you guys ? Was the whitewater worth it due to portages ??
I think 7 hours. Whitewater was definitely worth the portages although I would absolutely not do the hike out again. Will go to the lake next tike
@@jamesmoloney7725 all pretty manageable?? Anything you didn’t run ? I’m jealous
@@maddmatt751 think I portaged 5 times? It’s a class V run for sure, like a higher consequence linville
Looks good!! That’s on my Dream list !! Flows around 230? Any issues anywhere ?
It was 170, no problems. It’s really good
Love the spirit of adventure
Too sick!
Where is this?
Flows into calderwood a mile downstream of the cheoah
On my list !!!
Gonna try to hit it again this month feel free to hit me up
This in Colorado ??
Yup, flows into lime creek below energizer
@@jamesmoloney7725 that’s what I thought !! Looks fun
Awesome lines!
Sick
Sick run man. Had my eye on this all season just hard because I don’t live over that way anymore. Hopefully someday. You put in below the falls?
Thanks! We put in at the bridge below the falls. The road is gated off between that bridge and the falls and I didn’t think it would be worth hiking in to that top section
@@jamesmoloney7725That road has been gated ever since I moved to NC but good to know. Looks like a fun run!
Ideal water level for a first time?
I think so, no complaints
Yeah dawg! How long is that section? What's access like?
The normal run ppl do is 7.5 miles no hike in with a .7 mile hike out, I prefer hiking in about .4 miles which cuts off the first 2.5 miles of flat
Big dog creekin on steroids. I'd love to know what the feet per mile is on that run. Looks like Raven's Fork gradient on video.
