Land Rover series IIA Tdi, One year on.
One year after my last video of Nad, I thought I'd do an update walk around. It's changed a little...

Land Rover Series IIA rebuilt by teenager. Part II. "Frustrating times"

The Part II to my rebuild video, as you can see life's not being kind to this project and over summer 2015 I hope to clear the cob webs and transplant a 200n/a into him. for now, more dust.

Land Rover Series IIA rebuilt by teenager. Part 1

My Series IIA 88' diesel. I bought Nad when I was nine, I've broken several landies (including another 88 and the 109 you can see the remains of) to fund the build of ol' Naddy. I started on Nad last year. I'm now 15 and am currently swearing at the brakes. this is just part I, there is not part II yet...
hello there i am rebuilding a late series 2a land rover and have fitted discovery axles and one tone shackles what model of shock absorbers did you fit on the front and the rear thanks bill
Hi could u show me how you did the diesel turbo manifold as I’m looking at using that manifold cheers
What front spring are you using? Or did just remove some springs?
Ive got one and it has a discovery 300tdi
I’m more interested in the Range Rover
This is amazing..since im wondering how to out tdi and the drive train to a series..and this enlightened me up..thank u.. 👍
Ignition damp...strip clean dry .
Brilliant! A proper Landrover with character and individuality. Well done.
الاسطورة...التى يمكنك الاعتماد عليها فى الصحرا هى الرفيق الوفى فى الصحراء الليبيه .
Great video and love the landy mate. I'm 19 and wish I had a series (rebuilding a disco 1 at the monent) would love to see more videos of this thing!
It’s unique as all Landies should be. Well done.
Hey, nice Landy! I'm looking at swapping a 2.6 petrol in my 109 to a 200tdi, I see you have a 19J turbo on your 200tdi. How did you get that to fit as I understand the exhaust ports and stud holes are different between a 19J and 200tdi for the exhaust manifold?
I believe 19j’s and 200’s both used the same turbo...
Very nice job. Well done
Cool truck! Hope you keep an eye on them welds you mentioned, so you dont die. 😋 Love the tractor exhaust.
Who would evict someone right in the middle of a Land Rover rebuild? Mean people suck, lol. Great job Sir! It made me laugh seeing you put a Mini project on hold. I'm doing the same now, working on my Series III and finishing my Mini later this fall. Cheers!
Land Rovers don't LEAK !! They're marking their TERRITORY !!! I have two Land Rovers a series 1 , 1957 86" wheel base diesel, and a 1965 series 2A 109" wheel base station wagon diesel. I'm the original owner of the 109 and the series 1 was purchased new by my father. Absolutely love both of them and wouldn't sell either. I changed the engine in the 109 to a 3.9 Isuzu , like the Australian military Land Rover Perentie, along with the gear box (transmission). There's several companies in Australia that are great help with conversion kiks. Parts are very hard to find for the old Land Rovers. Lucky I have a great machine shop to make certain items. Great video. Thank you for sharing your Land Rover Series 2A. Greetings from Florida, USA
What gearboxes is in it tank
Cracking video. Old series trucks never die, they get fitted with Tdis and just keep going.
Your Music.....Respect to you...you know a tune .....it makes the video visually and sonically enjoyable..... (Shit"visually and sonically " .not something I've ever said before)...
0:48 indeed it is
We got one at home got a v8 stag engine in it and tuned sounds amazing and spits flames out of the front
crank baby crank baby crank baby:)
nice work, about as good as mine was to start with lol
Pop an v8 in son, we've a factory v8 and never looked back
Archie, can I grab your email? I would love to ask you a few questions regarding your axel swap. Cheers.
archie.cursham@gmail.com Ask away!
This not Land Rover Series IIA, but is Land Rover Series II, no a "A". The "A" has the headlights in the mudguard.
It's a IIA manufactured before the headlamp revision which came towards the end of it's manufacturing period.
Aye it was suffix G (May 1969) and onwards that the headlights were wing mounted in the UK :)
Not all A's have headlights on the wings. My 1966 IIA has them in the middle.
put a 200 tdi in my 67 2a. nice easy job. totally transforms it especially with disco diffs in you'll get pulled by plod with those tyres on
Friend of ours is a bobby, says the worst they can do is make me take an MOT test, which I will pass as the MOT doesn't check for construction and use regs, just condition. It also doesn't fall fowl of the C&U regs as the tyres don't stick out more than 1.5"
Very nice I've got a series 3 88 with a disco 200tdi I have a 94 classic that I'm pulling the axels to do a similar axel swap Is there a chance you could do a video with some detail on the steering and axel diff angle Cheers Aaron
Hiya, at the end of this winter the Landy will be back on the road after a few more modifications so I'll put another video up then
I have a 2a in bronze green with a defender 200 tdi
I am driving on WVO almost 15 years without any problems... And i spare so much money on the fuel :)
What does your Mini start like on a REALLY COLD MORNING if you haven't used it for several days? Do you usually find it needs a lot of cranking to get it going? How much choke do you use?
Robin Price isn't it the rover mini which was injected
the spi minis 93 to 96 and mini mpis 97 to 2001 was injection I think and the older rover minis Where all carbureted
I've got a 998 with a single su and I most of the time don't use the choke as it starts straight away just need to gently blip a wee bit of the throttle and it starts first crank. It runs slightly rich and I live in Scotland with is most of the time cold and wet.
Thank you always good make and do!! and to see a young enthusiast enthusiastically looking after the old land rover like all you engineering up grads and tips long wheel base master cylinder I am getting mot my 2a a difficult to bleed soft brakes '! enjoyed watching your video. if you are in Wales always welcome to pop over for tea do bring old Land Rover 2a
Nice Truck, I too am 19 with a series in need of work. I was wondering how you're getting on with those 1 ton shackles, I've heard some horror stories about them messing up the U joint geometry on the prop shaft, and binding the u joints, in one case braking a ring gear. Also, how do you bleed the calipers with them upside down?
1 ton shackles haven't given me a problem in 3 years of abuse! Take them off the axle, cable tie them up and chock the pistons apart. Bit of a faff at the time but they work
Nice to get a closer look at this truck, seen it plenty often on the Facebook group. Nice wagon!
Thanks :) Since the video I've spent about a week and £300 on it, rebuilt both axles, most of the steering and some other stuff. I'm thinking of doing another video on the move soon.
very informative 👍
Cheers dude, trying to get back into the habit of making videos :)

Well done young Fella! A home LandRover restoration will set you up with life skills more than any governmental course ever could. You'll learn ..... 1) Welding, gas & electric (the joining of rust to rust, or the melting of rust to rust). 2) Grinding (the cutting away and smoothing down of rust) 3) Mechanical engineering (how to unbolt rusted fixings from corroded rusted chassis members) 4) Auto electrics (working with frayed rusting wiring harnesses held together with rusted clips and fasteners) 5) Coach & Spray painting if selling on ebay (aka the covering or & covert hiding of terminal rust, ie door hinges to body, or rear cross member to chassis) 6) Patience (the ability to withstand being tempted to smash with a 24lb sledge hammer, every bit of what remains of the chassis and outriggers after chipping off what you initially believed to be just slight pitting) 7) Money management and Accounting! (ie how to manage to spend exorbitant and obscene sums of money, then somehow attempt to account for where it all went!) 8) Extreme off road driving skills (for our well maintained UK Motorways and A roads). 9) Kindness! (for freely giving the inland revenue enormous and yearly increasing amounts of your hard earned cash to simply be allowed to use it on the aforementioned billiard table smooth roads). After saying all that....They're simply THE best and no mistake!
How are you funding all this?
+nw8000 I sold various spares we had lying around, and bought 2 other Series II's and a Discovery all of which I broke for spares generating the funds for this.
Archiethelandylad This county needs more of your sort young man, Well done chap
Awesome car, and awesome song!! hahahaha
lookin good not far off now try the 2.5na from a defender will drop straight in
I started mine when i was 13.. I'm 14 now.. still have not finished :) nearly, though
+Fraser Gordon I call bullshit on this one
Go ahead, the fact is, your wrong. :) Check my channel, photos, vids of me landy over the course of 5 months. Did a full stripdown and rebuild of the handbrake system today, that was good fun. Anyway, as i say, your wrong :P
GREAT WORK MEN!!! Congratulations!
Try a transit di engine they are bomb proof m8! Good luck!!
Sounds very much like an Bmw 330d with decat and pipes. Sweet.
Good luck! It ''ll pay off
just brought a series 3 with a Holden motor
+Farmer2492 not original? :l
i have the original motor as well with brand new pistons and rings
Gonna fit rings and pistons and get it working again?
nice there a great 4x4
Triumph 2000 six. Sits further back than the MGC engine so doesn't need the bulge, has had a chunk taken out of the bulkhead though. It's a very tight fit and because of the engine being further back there is not even space for a heater and the rocker cover is peerlessly close to the bonnet but has never touched. Triumph 4 speed box with over drive, triumph wheels, Spax gas shocks with twins on the front and uprated brake lines. All done many many years ago :)
What engine is that as it doesn't have an mgc bonnet?
Cheers guys! I must put an updated video of the David brown tractor as that is now finished, I've also been working pretty much flat out during the summer so I didn't get anything done. I've just started working on him again and have almost got the brakes and suspension done, so it doesn't really look any different. I will upload a vid as soon as he's got lights!
Cool rebuild. Im currently restoring a series 3 short wheel base with a soft top so your story's a lot like mine :)
