Paint and Chat: Product art vs process art. Do You Focus More On Process or Product As An Artist?
I liked your approach to planning and goal setting. I do it too but on a less ambitious schedule. I've had a big garden before and it consumed my life. Nowadays I plant a few things in containers that don't expand fast so I can harvest gradually . Deer and rabbits eat everything so major fencing is a must. I loved the idea of leaving Friday as household management day so weekends can be more available. I'm also trying to incorporate sketching as a daily event even 10 minutes so any program about sketching is of great interest to me. Always enjoy your channel 😊
Nothing is deer proof or critter proof/ fence works
Raised beds - Almost anything but I like beans- squash etc - beets lettuce Swiss chard will working a container too
Thank you. 😍One more question for you - Do you start from seeds or buy plants? I'm thinking of starting from seeds inside and then transferring them outside when the weather warms up, so wondering if you have any tips on this process if you have done this?
@@StudioStacy I buy my pepper and tomato plants and sometimes a zucchini since I don’t want lots of those but I plant in the ground the other seeds- beans lettuce beets Swiss chard spinach etc
@@juliecook7371 Thank you 😍
Container ideas- tomato, peppers, bush type cucumbers, pole beans, some squash if you have a strong trellis
Well if our garden doesn't work out i know whose house I'm going to, to get fresh veggies. 😂 Thanks for the suggestions 😍
love the update
Thank you.😍 Happy 2025!
Thanks Stacy! Love your blue glasses!
Thank you - that's very sweet of you to say. 😍
Happy New Year!
Happy 2025! Hope the first few days of the year are finding you happy, healthy and inspired. 😍
You make me feel really guilty as I have my thoughts, but then don’t act on them like I should. At least you are moving forwards. A lesson to be learnt here I think for 2025. Thank you for the inspiration. 💐
Oh gosh don't feel guilty. I've been working on a crochet blanket on and off for 2 years, have had a childhood blanket stashed away for who knows how long, and way too many balls of yarn that got moved over two years ago sitting in boxes. Don't feel guilty - we all make plans that fall thru. You'll know when it's time to pick those plans back up. 😍
Merry Christmas 🎄 pretty views around the town. And a surprise seeing the tin can tree 🌲. I didn’t realize you still had it. Great to see the tradition continues. ❤ Happy holidays ☃️

Thanks for sharing ☺️. I have been searching for a long time for a review of Sinopia casein gesso because I'm interested in using it on canvas with watercolor 😃. By the way, I read that you have to let the gesso cure completely before putting water on it, something like four days of waiting.
Months after filming this, the casein yellowed. I have since switched back to R&F encaustic gesso. You might have better luck with it then I did.
@StudioStacy 😱 Oh no. I will keep that in mind and experiment with adding color to it 🧐.
@StudioStacy By the way, did the gesso on your sketchbook yellow too?
@@pintandoconmoctezuma Yes it did. At first I thought it was the wood panels I applied it to, but it yellowed on the sketchbook and on watercolor paper too.
@@StudioStacy I see 😯. Thanks for letting me know ☺️.
Blanket is so pretty. Oh Matt, I could be over and help out with the lego.
@@judycook2097 thanks. The blanket has been a fun project to pick back up. Come on over 😍.

Merry Christmas- you guys sure seems to have fun! Matt’s man tree was also fun-
Merry Christmas to you too. 😍 The "man tree" started because we have way too many ornaments that neither one of us can part. It's a real Christmas dilemma 🤣🎅
Fun always, we must! Merry Christmas to you!
Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄❄️❄️❄️
Thank you 😍Merry Christmas to you too. 🎄
Are you and Matt going to eat all of those kolaches by yourselves? So fun to see all your kitchen workspace and compare it to when you just started doing the inside of the barndominium. My mom always made spritz cookies for Christmas, along with Grandma's butter cookies (the ones made in a cookie press got a candied cherry on top, and the ones flattened with a fork got a nice fat pecan.) She always experimented with new recipes, but us kids preferred chocolate chip cookies from the recipe on the back of the Nestles bag.
We actually freeze all of the cookies and baked goods and then enjoy them all year round. They last really well in the freezer for almost the entire year. For some reason it has always been tradition to bake during the holiday season, but I say every year we should spread the baking out - and then we don't 😂Thanks for watching 😍
The beginning of the video was a snowy beautiful day ☃️
We don't get much snow but when it does it seems to be the big fluffy flakes that stick to the trees. It is very pretty here. ❄🏔
Oh I see my name written on the cherry kolaches. Rolls look good too. Matt I see Stacy disappeared after you gave her the drink. And you seemed to finish the spritz cookies. I must say your spritz maker worked better than mine. Good tip on getting pans cold. Well I’ll be waiting for my care package ❤ ya. Mom
The cherry are my favorite kolaches too. You have good taste 😍We can bring you a care package if I can get Matt to share😂
My senses were on fire!!! I do love a good pecan tassie cookie but lots of others as well
Now I'm looking up pecan tassie. I've never heard of these before. 😍
@ they are like miniature pecan pies made in a small tiny cupcake pan- a bite size tart! I believe the crust has cream cheese in the recipe-
@@juliecook7371 Those sound really good. 😋
Let’s add those to the list!
Fully agree with leaving the crochet & lace off. Lovely. Well done for being brave, biting the bullet, and making changes!💐
Thank you. 😍It's kind of a freeing idea to paint over a piece. My mantra is it's only paint - it's only paint. 😅
Wow! Only 6 1/2 minutes into this and my mouth is watering!😮😂
The house smelled soo good for days. Thanks for watching. 😍
It does look better. It was hard to tell while you were painting it. The before and after pictures show the difference.👍
Thank you for the affirmation and for watching. 😍I think it does too. One of the benefits to creating videos is having the content to look back on - like the before and after pictures. ☺
I was thinking it would be a perfect time to paint the drywall when Matt moved all that stuff out of the shop area. What are you planning for the walls in there?
It definitely would have been a good idea to paint then.... Matt does want to paint them. Nothing fancy just a coat of a light paint. I don't think he's planning on putting up trim or anything like that. Paint would make it look a bit more finished and less stripey. That might be an upcoming winter project. Stay tuned. 😍
@@StudioStacy meanwhile, seeing the wall the way it is reminds us of all your hard work and everything you learned about doing drywall.
@C0raBr0wn soooooo much was learned. 😍
Oh. I’ll just wait until the space is even more clean and empty to get to painting😂
Hi Stacy … I was fascinated to find a video of you using your Gelli Plate … but you breezed quickly through that segment 😂 I’ve been using gouache paints on my Plate as they’re compatible with encaustic wax, but wanted to know what you are using! Love watching you!! … Elaine
Hi. Go to minute marker 02:26 in the video and I show the paint I use. I'm using India ink mixed with gesso and oil paints. Hope that helps. 😍
Thanks for this. Super informative. Do you find that mixing your own encaustic medium is significantly less expensive than buying it already as a completed product?
Hi. Thanks for watching. 😍To be honest I'm not sure how much less expensive it is. I have never really done the math on it. I'm sure it's less expensive, but I like to make my own medium because I enjoy making it more than anything else. I can also control how much damar resin I put in. I just did a quick search and 1lb of encuastic medium is about $33 I make about 4lbs of medium for about $44 so it's definitely less expensive but it's also time consuming.
@@StudioStacy Thanks! Good to know. I'm a newbie to encaustic having taken a couple of workshops. But I'm already in love with it. Just getting my supplies and setup in order to start after Christmas. I've been buying from garage sales and facebook marketplace---lots of people sell art supplies. So looking to the future when I'm buying retail, since the premade is so pricey. Thanks for the tips and the demo.

Hi. I did end up doing vlogmas that year and have a playlist for the videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLLBS1GEG0VBlSOM1uO8mZyTxJcquceJdw.html I am also going to be doing a version of vlogmas this year but not everyday. Stay tuned and thanks for watching. 😍
I agree with removing the crochet pieces. When you lay them on the work, I stopped thinking "fine art" and shift over to "craft project or junk journal." I like craft projects and junk journals, but I don't think that's what you're going for. The strip of crocheted lace enhances the composition of the second painting, but adds texture that distracts me. I would try something flat, lacy, and a little more organic, probably a hand made paper cutting.
Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it. 😍 I had the same thought about it looking more like a craft project.
I think that the new versions are greatly improved over the old ones. Great idea to paint over them.
Thank you for the feedback. 😍I'm happy with how they came out. Stay tuned as I'm planning to paint over more artwork.
Excellent video. Great idea with vellum paper
Thank you. Glad you found it helpful. 😍
Stacy!! Love the redoes. I agree with leaving the items off. Too distracting and do not add anything. Questions. How did you print the photos on tissue paper. Also how did you do the transfer that you used. Thanks again.
Thank you for validating my thoughts on the paintings. 😍As far as the tissue paper goes. I tape the tissue paper to another piece of printer paper and run it thru my printer. If you try this be careful as not all printers operate the same. My printer handles this just fine but I have heard others do not. If you have an expensive printer you might not want to try this or in the very least be close by just in case. I have a separate video on the image transfer here: th-cam.com/video/9kN1PHdYSuw/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to talk all things encaustic.
Beautiful makeovers Stacy - loving them both . I think you have made the right decision regarding the trims - I personally would leave them off as I think they detract from the painting itself . Kind regards - Judi - Australia 😁
Thank you. I really appreciate the feed back. 😍🖌
I have several paintings I need to redo- but maybe a complete overhaul
Looking back at some of your finished pieces can be fun but also can lead to more work/painting. I never know whether to be frustrated with my past self for putting a piece out there that I now feel is not great or proud of my current self for admitting it needs an overhaul. Glad I'm not the only one 😍
What is the pencil you’re using, please?
It is a Derwent Inktense Pencil. They are Water soluble pencils and become permanent once dry. I take and wet the tip of the pencil just a bit and they write beautifully over the encaustic paint. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Great job! I liked the honest evaluation
Thanks. 😍 This was a struggle and we didn't want to complain or make it feel like it wasn't worth it. So many people are struggling with a lot bigger real world problems than a fabric ceiling. But we wanted to also share the ups and downs of the project.
Thanks. I think we needed to express our feelings over this one lol.
Looks really cool!

Love the tools on the wall. Matt looked like he was having too much fun!😅
Thank you. 😍 Matt was definitely having fun. We have a few projects in mind for this coming spring and more power equipment might get rented - although that might mean more power equipment goes on his wish list. 🤣 😂
The wall of tools looks great! You both accomplished a lot in three days. Maybe Matt should start a go fund me to get one of those lifts.
Thank you 😍 And you all need to stop encouraging Matt. 🤣😂We live in a small space. We're gonna have to build another pole barn to house all of the equipment on his want list. 😆
@@StudioStacy we are running out of projects to do. Did we just agree to build another building? Should I order the shipping containers? 😂
You two do work hard. One thought I had though….is the fabric fire retardant? I hope so! I’m going to really miss these videos when you are finally done. 💐
Great question. It is fire retardant. We didn't even think of that and when we went to order the store owner asked and confirmed that it was. 😍
im thinking about having someone build a 2000sq feet barndominium then turn it into a house one room at a time on my own. the cost of housing and everything is absurd and i noticed researching it online its like they puposely hide search results of how to build your own affordable housing yourself. I think you can build your own home a room at a time for super cheap compared to what the prices are going for and they dont want you to know how to do it. Im just curious what the cost to build it into a home will be after building the foundation and basic pole barn structure for about 80k 60x80 pole barn for the basic structure and concrete floor not including water and foundation etc.
I think it was definitely less expensive for us to do the majority of work ourselves. We have not added up the cost of all of our expenses so I can't give you an estimate on what it cost us. But I can say that if you're handy, don't mind putting in the work, have patience, and most importantly enjoy learning all things construction it can be a wonderful experience. We lived out of our 19' camper while building out the pole barn and it can be a trying experience. We found it enjoyable. If you have any questions (we're no experts) feel free to reach out. 😍
Exciting progress! I've been wondering how having the lower ceiling and slightly darker color affects how the room feels. Watching Matt strip the wires reminded me of all of the times we've seen him trying to fit bulky wires into a tiny electrical box while perched on the top step of a ladder.
Hi, Sorry I just saw this comment. Not sure how I missed it. 😥 The ceiling actually does not feel lower, strangely enough. I think because it is still quite tall, about 10 feet and then angles down to the 8 foot walls. I haven't really noticed it feeling darker in here. I'm just glad to not be staring at yellow spray foam. 😂 Thanks for following along on this crazy journey.😍
@@StudioStacy you answered my question really well in next video, Stacy. I really enjoyed the discussion about how you felt about doing the project and about the results.
@@C0raBr0wn thank you. 😍
Ok kids you forgot the Mom warning ⚠️ again. The step stool on the bed? I forgot to see if you had on your safety socks. Also , I almost thought you had on a OSHA shirt. Stacy, good job on the video. Did you ever consider a normal ceiling? Can’t wait to see the final project. ❤

Hi Stacy, toner printer? I assume you mean a Laser printer? I don't have an inkjet printer but I do have a laser printer. Does the vellum paper also work with laser prints?
Sorry for the confusion. Some people call laser printers toner printers. I have used a toner ink in the past. I found out recently that the inkjet ink also works. I have been able to use the vellum with both a toner printer and an inkjet printer. I would think that your laser printer would print on the vellum. Hope that clears things up.
