Thank you. I just started CPAP a few days ago. I wish I had seen your video first. I’m finding it very difficult. I have a full face mask and I feel like I spend half the night adjusting it to stop leaks. So far out of 6 nights I’ve had one good night. I feel better knowing that most people have to try 2 or more masks before they find the right one for them.

Lots of answers to this! I think my journey included 12 masks, if you count various options like nasal cushion, nasal pillows, etc. I learend there is no possible way the doctor can know for sure which specific mask and features will fit your needs and your preferences, and avoid little things that irritate you that even you could not know ahead of time. I learned that all of the under-nose masks hurt my nostrils in the morning. Many people experience this, and in almost all cases it is a short-lived symptom (like 20 minutes). Most people tolerate that, but I hated it. Empower started me off with an N20, a best seller that is quite a good mask but I had to try lots of others. My mouth insists on opening, so I discovered the MaskShield, a weird little gadget but way better than a chinstrap, in my case. Tape worked, but I hated it. Long, long story short, I ended up with an F20 and continued to use the MouthShield, which almost entirely eliminates leaks. I now look forward to bedtime. The full mask provides lots of air (9-13 setting) and doesn't touch my nose. I learned fairly quickly to side-sleep without disturbing the mask other than just very momentarily. Hang in there. My AHI has dropped from 24 to 3.

@@davidm.mccordph.d.6487 12 masks!? That is impressive persistence! I’ve switched to the AirFit F40 hybrid mask and I’m doing well. When I called to say I hated my giant hard plastic full face mask they said “yeah, not too many people succeed with that one.” WHY WOULD YOU SEND ME THAT??? It’s still a struggle at times. All the mask demos I’ve seen have been on people with short hair or straight hair. It’s a different story trying to get the mask on with longish, thick, curly hair. The headgear is not made with that in mind.

You could experiment with mouth tape and a nasal mask and a nasal pillow (ex: trying 2 new masks). I bought 3 masks initially and one is far more comfortable for me than the others. But yeah, overall, it takes some time to get used to.
