I prefer it personally. It's a cleaner head trip with really little body load. I've never gotten sick on Nats either

Why
That black tape around the bottom of the tub does absolutely nothing for side pins. Side pins are caused by a microclimate between the substrate and the side of the tote NOT the light. That’s why we use liners. The liner clings to the sub block as it shrinks and helps to prevent the microclimate from forming.
I've been seeing lots of people do it. They probably just do what they see and don't think about the purpose of a liner.

The 6 inch duct tape is my preference as well. Blocks light for no algae growth and such.

You shouldn't fill jars that much, you need to be able to redistribute the grain by shaking it. Also, you have liquid culture lids on grain jars over by the bags, they won't provide enough air exchange.
They're really full. I saw some guy with that problem and he solved it by using one of those muscle therapy vibrator things that he pressed against the jar.

You want cooler temps around 70. Not almost 80 😂 somebody give this kid a book to read. Doesn’t even get the basics. The higher the temp the higher your chances are for contam. Just a little lesson for the young buck.

Maybe you've done this before with success.. but as far as I can see your spawn to sub ratio looks low to me.. as in not enough grain for all that substrate. Like what.. 1/5? 1/6? How did it turn out in the end? I just made that mistake in my last run and the result was not great...
I'd be curious to hear how it worked out for you. I'm thinking of trying one, currently using a good old mono with larger holes and two stages for colonisation and fruiting. Thing is everyone's raving about these exact measurements, but surely can't work as is in totally different environments right? Also, that's a lot of substrate/grain if you want to reach those lower side holes.. whole purpose is for humid air flow to keep the surface humid, so if your sub level is lower than the holes it's not going to work..
Hello, I have two questions: I am thinking about using a substrate of: Mix of seeds (bird food), brown rice flour, flaxseed flour, vermiculite, glucose. Do the ready-made jars have an air filter? When the jars are colonized, can I remove and transfer the substrate to a grow box. That is, can I hurt the mycelium(damage) Thanks in advance

The Liner is used to clean easier and if your substrate pulls away from the sides of your tub your liner will pull away with it. If you have No liner your substrate will pull away from your tub as it gets drier and you will get side pins.
Has nothing to do with light.
Nats are very aggressive!

Never do spores straight to grain. Spore syringes are designed to be used with agar, which means you can isolate clean mycelium. You can't do that with spores straight to grain and that way is far more likely to contaminate. The exception is if you do PF Tek (with a water tub preferably),
