On the up and up the Academy is very strict about these votes.

I know Austin won countless awards world wide but it is such a shame the academy lost their integrity along time ago and robbed this guy who gave a once in a lifetime Oscar performance and shut out the movie totally a.with not 1 win in any category they were nominated 4. The U.S. in general, was too wrapped up in Brendan Fraser's woe is me narrative. Austin won around the world: Foreign Press Golden Globe (Drama) British Academy BAFTA (UK Oscar equivalent) Australia Academy AACTA Int'l, Irish Academy IFTA Int'l, Spain Sant Jordi (Foreign Actor)South African Film Critics, International Press Academy Satellite (Comedy or Musical) etc. It also hurt that it was his first lead role. That shouldn't matter, just like Fraser's personal life shouldn't, but unfortunately, it does.

Unlike the average ETA, Austin embodied Elvis, he wasn't just imitating him. There's very good ETA's out there, but to me they're just imitators, only competing against each other to see who's the best one. I'd rather pay money to watch Austin do an Elvis show than even Shawn Klush, as good as he is.
