    Saw these boys support Muse in the Olympia in 2004. I was 15 at the time. 'Secret' Muse gig announced 2 days beforehand. Myself and my brother got tickets from Pro Musica in Cork and travelled up for it. They opened with this track as far as I remember. Of course that was that for singing the rest of the set - he just screamed his way through the whole lot. The crowd were all over it. Sensational stuff. I think Muse brought them on tour around Europe off the back of the performance. Muse of course...jesus christ. They were at the peak of their abilities at that stage. Marvel at the set somewhere if you can find it. Still probably the best gig I've ever been to. I'd say best concert ever, but I was at Slane the summer before. Slane at 14...it's not alright like.

    It's the real track. Josh wanted to separate the drums from the cymbals for some reason, that's what makes it slightly artificial sounding.

      When you track without cymbals, it allows you to really compress the hell out of the room mics without having the cymbals overpower everything. It’s a great technique but a pain in the ass to achieve whilst making it sound natural. In the case of SFTD, it worked swingingly thanks to Grohl being a madman!

    my opinion is that when we move to more speakers they should alwasy be backward compatable with older standards. so we should build on 7.1 with adding height speakers in front and back. and maby second sub woofer. to make a 11.2.

    @acarlovonsexron1994 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dave would have his drums set up with mics, but he'd be hitting rubber pads or something so he can play it without having to stop himself before hitting something. The purpose of it is you are able to get a better sound out of the drums. The mics wouldn't have to be compensated for cymbal bleed and you can get a "purer" tone. Cymbals would then be overdubbed in. Listen to "Better Living Through Chemistry" in the breakdown, you can hear just the cymbals, Josh has apparently done it for a while.

  • @acarlovonsexron1994
    @acarlovonsexron1994 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope, already changed my mind back... hahaha. I'm convinced this is the correct intro and outro- I remember an interview with Josh where he said that very last bit where Dave yells "yep!" was completely off the cuff and the song was supposed to end right before that. Apparently ever body managed to look over and finish the song as it now famously ends- with all the triplets in their glory. You can hear it here- I don't think he would yell out in the middle of recording twice for the same spot.

  • @acarlovonsexron1994
    @acarlovonsexron1994 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, you're right, I completely forgot them tracking the cymbals separately. The intro and outro sound almost identical to the record version, minus the extra bar Dave decided to add at the end- I just assumed they cut that out for it to end on a nice predictable four bars of drum roll fury. But that does attest to how consistent Dave really is, basically coming up with the drumtrack to be recorded on a run-through.

  • @jonathanpacemusic
    @jonathanpacemusic 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, this is just a demo, on the album they recorded the drums and cymbals separately. This is just them hashing the song out. I am a drummer and have learned this song note for note and listened to it probably 100 times and can tell you definitively that none of this track was used on song. The intro is basically the exact same but I guarantee you this isn't the same recording used on the album. The outro is totally different on this recording though.

    • @KingBlonde
      @KingBlonde 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would they track the cymbals and drums separately? Not disbelieving you, but asking. That seems totally counter-intuitive.

    • @giacomolabriola1
      @giacomolabriola1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KingBlonde so that bleeding between the cymbals and the drums would not occur, giving you unmatched clarity, at the cost of having to do really precise takes for the cymbal-only play and the drum-only part or else it would sound like poop, basically a feat only few drummers like grohl can do consistently lol(and as far as we know he too would get angry about it because of how hard it is to redo the same part again near perfectly.)

  • @acarlovonsexron1994
    @acarlovonsexron1994 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Intro and Outro are definitely the ones they took for the song, but I'm positive they took the verses and choruses in the middle from a different take. Dave has always had great signature fills into and out of portions songs that have been as catchy as any riff- "All Apologies" is a great example.
