Rezial Reviews: Chapter Approved Arks of Omen
Nice video. But there are shoulder plates on the arms and one of them is only included for one arm. You would actually need six shoulder blades. They are too thin to drill open and you would have to attach two magnets to each arm (one for the torso and one for the shoulder plate). I'll try and do it right away, but there's an important part missing for the video..
@@foxhound7277 I don't disagree that I could also talk more about swapping pauldrons(shoulder plates). However not only is this not really a problem for most Space Marine players as we tend to always end up with plenty of spares, actually you CAN magnetize those if you really want, and I've done it. Also there's even a third option for a way to handle this. Perhaps I could do a video all about that.
Fantastic tutorial. Thank you for keeping it clear and concise.
Thanks for watching!
This is an incredible tutorial. View of the process the entire time, clear, concise, explaining the why of everything. Gives confidence to me who has never done this, got some scrap marines to sacrifice to the R&D gods!
@@biggerthanjapan Thank you for the kind words. Let me know if there are some other techniques I could help with
awesome video!!! Thanks!
does it have to be a rare earth magnet? I have a bunch of them I got off of amazon
@@JGburneraccount those neodynium types work the best for these sort of hobby applications. You can certainly try another type but I can't offer experience on how well they may work.
@@LittleIAO thanks for the response, ill give it a go and see what happens cheers man awesome video.
Didn't know you made videos, make more you have a good chill presentation style
This is the way!
Awesome tutorial! Are there cases where the chest cavity is too hollow where you will need to fill it up with green stuff before the magnet will fit and hold? In those case what filler did you use?
Sorry for the slow reply. I haven't run into a case like that with Space Marines. However I have considered magnetizing larger Tyranids for instance and in that case you would need something. I sometimes have cut lengths of sprue and build frames inside the body cavity for other purposes and that's much more efficient than trying to fill up the space with putty. Polystyrene sheet is also useful. But you could use epoxy or foam of some type perhaps.
Just stumbled upon this video, great timing as I've been thinking of magnetising vehicles for Star Wars Legion : any suggestions on magnetising weapons that stick out of the main body? (More specifically, the front mounted gun on the AT-RT hasn't got those handy larger "bases" that most 40k tanks seem to have). Love your work !!
@@matthiasdolfeyn3948 Hey appreciate it. Well I'd have to look into that specific model but there may be a way.
Realy nice tutorial. However, I don’t agree with sanding the magnet itself as there is a thin layer of nickel(or other stuff) to protect the actual magnet from oxidation.
paint over it
Oh I wouldn't call it ideal but it's not easy for most people to get the magnets seated perfectly every time. For the ones that I've sanded a little none have developed any issues after many years.
Got into 40k this february and want to try magnetizing now, what would you do about the shoulder pads if you magnetize 2 Arms for each side but only have 1 shoulder pad for each side ?
@@mrerdnussbutter4575 Shoulders are easy to get for the most part so there's that. Most of them are interchangeable. However if I absolutely had none extra and couldn't get them I'd either sculpt some from putty on top of the shoulder on the arm or I'd tack the separate ones onto the torso in such a way that the arm could go on and off underneath.
Great tutorial mate 👍
Criminal that this channel doesn't have more recognition. To the point, good presentation/editing, and a humble host. Subbed! c:
Ah thanks. Life got in the way but there will finally be more to come soon.
I love the new scheme, you can't go wrong with a metal finish ;). How has the army come along since this video?
Hey thanks a lot Nick! Well... Actually a LOT happened since then and I did largely redesign that whole scheme. However it is still metallic based. I think you've inspired me to go ahead and do a new "State of the Table" video even though those get a miniscule amount of views. At least it will be a good check-in on what changed.
@@LittleIAO Oh defo do the video, that would be great. The views will come if you keep ticking out the content 👍
Ok what am I doing wrong. I have got my hole and placed the magnets but no matter how long i wait for the glue to set, the magents still rip right out. Are my magents to small?
That's hard to say. It could be the glue isn't setting or perhaps the hole you drilled doesn't give enough surface area to grab them. They should be slightly snug.
@@LittleIAO I'll try making a more snug fit next time. Thanks 👍
@marcfun347 you've probably fixed it by now but a fix I found is to use tamiya cement mixed with leftover sprue to build up any gaps in the drilled hole, so that the magnet fits flush and snug.
@@BlurriestSky I have not but I haven't used Tamiya cement. So I will try that. I was thinking of using green stuff or modeling clay to create a flat surface to bond
Great video, all facts no fluff
with the new chaos lords that are coming out, how much trouble will it be to magnetize the shoulderpads? or should i already be looking into getting spare bits for those arms lol?
Oh well it could be tough to say about those new kits just yet. If they have standard separate pauldrons you can magnetize them if you want to. I have done that in the past. However I don't usually end up doing it because I just haven't found it very useful.
Little tip i like to do for mine, make the arms, weapons, etc stand a little proud of the surface, and the body, hand, etc, whatever the main model component have a small inset gap so when the arms connect they have a little socket on the body to rotate in. Keeps em centered and makes it so the arms cant slide off easily if the magnet is a touch too weak.
Very cool. I generally have zero issue with magnet strength if they are flush. I have tried various recess techniques but still prefer a flush connection. Thanks for watching!
what size magnet would you recommend for a stompa
Probably the same I would use on Imperial Knights if it's for the largest parts. I found some decent ones that are 8x3. But tbh I've never worked on a Stompa so it is a guess.
@@LittleIAO thanks i am new to the entire model making thing and i am trying to get as much info as possible before i ruin a model
@@huggelionexactly the comment I was hoping for since I’m planning on getting a stompa soon and would love to magnetise it
@@kirbyfunkpop8874 i have just started and the arms are about 5 mm but you will have to cut and drill and the holes in the body for the arms is about 8mm and if you magnetize the head correctly you just need strong ones of any size. dont forget that you can double layer the magnets so that parts will stay on
@@huggelion I appreciate the info I just really don’t wanna mess up a model of that scale
Hi
Hello! Welcome.
@@LittleIAOso where can I contact you for business?
I have the same 3 dreadnaughts on my table right now. And yes, list building isn't the same anymore. It lacks granularity and is hard to fit certain units together due to points values.
Looks good 👌
Thank you!
Think this could be a proxy for a Blood Angles Libby
I've run across that conversion online a ton.
Looks great. I have a couple of these guys and they are fun to build and paint. Hopefully they get some good rules for 40K this week.
Great job

If you don't drill your barrels, you don't belong in polite society. This is a fact. Full stop.
It's definitely common courtesy ;)
I have always wondered should I drill out the barrels or not but this helped figure it out👍
I do hope it's helpful.
@@LittleIAO It was really helpful
fine fine fine, ill drill my boltgun barrels
😆
I DO NOT ENDORSE THIS!
Hello rez :) the marking tool is called a 'braddle' and like your pin vice it can benefit from having a pommel on the end for heavier work. Probably not necessary on plastic :)
Wow yeah I definitely didn't know that name. The one I use is really soft metal but no for my purposes I can't imagine needing a pommel. Thanks for that info!
Outstanding video, I’ve spent the past day watching a tonne of magnetising videos and they all missed out vital parts, especially about bit size and magnet size. Yours is easily the best out of the like a dozen I’ve watched. Subscribed!
Really appreciate it! Hope to have more videos like this going forward!
Very inspiring
Thanks so much!
Nicely done👍
Thank you!
@@LittleIAO Your welcome
What gold you use Rez?
Using a combo of stuff. Still use Retributor Armour but also a lot of Scale 75 golds.
PawPaw loved magnets! I like that you can exchange parts with other characters.
You can!
great vid! I magnetize almost every model but now you have me wanting to magnetize the heads too.
Thanks. You can do it!
Sweet!
Thanks!
Great video Rezial. Magnetising is almost my favourite part of the build, quite relaxing…until magnets flip over in close proximity…😅
Hey thanks! Yes that's annoying when it happens. It's why I show that part where I slide the magnets away.
Wish I saw this a year ago lol. Props to getting to the useful info immediately
Thanks Steve. That's one of the goals.
very nice guide!
Awesome! Thanks Guy!
