Colleen Tote Bag - Single Fold Rolled Handle Tutorial for Vinyl and Leather
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
The Colleen Tote Bag is a great carry-all for confident beginners. The pattern was written for fabric (canvas and quilt cotton) and uses a double-fold method for the Rolled Handles. But if the fabric handles are exchanged for heavier substrates like vinyl and leather, they are way to bulky to sew on a domestic machine. This quick tutorial guides you through making a single-fold Rolled Handle wh...

Please forgive my ignorance, but do you use a special pressure foot when you are zigzagging?
Your seams have much more room than mine. It says 1/4 inch seam allowance but yours look more like 1/2 . I'm having trouble opening up seams to press . What am I missing? Thanks - can't wait to finish for Christmas presents
I have sewed 4 of these as a newbie bag maker because your video tutorials are so excellent. They were fantastic learning projects, I felt like I was in a class being walked through the process.
This is so great to hear. 🥰 I still feel pretty new to the video tutorial game and appreciate the love. ❤️ 🙏🏽
@ well you really nail it, you got me through every little detail. I learned so much making these.
Hi! I plan on making the exterior out of an 8 oz canvas harvested from a pair of worn out pants. Do you rhink a foam liner would be necessary?
Using quilt batting instead, should be fine. Anything with a little loft helps to cushion the lining’s seams, so you don’t see them from the exterior of the SRP.
Could you use a soft tempered leather for the exterior of this bag?
With the right machine, you definitely could. I made one with faux leather (pics on the website listing) on my domestic Juki machine,
@ awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. I have an industrial so I should be good.
Muchisimas gracias por tu trabajo, los mejores acabados que he visto para este neceser. Mi admiración más sincera
❤💕💕💕طريقة جميلة وشرح رائع ممكن طريقة الباترون❤
Following each step of your AWESOME teaching-videos❤, I have made 7! 😊. In this video, what worked better for me was… Once the zipper was fully sewn in place and before we boxed the sides-corners, I have turned the bag right-sides-out, check my work, carefully pressed the zipper edges, then topstitched the zipper edges. Then turned the bag back to right sides facing each other to box the sides-corners. Keep Sewing & Teaching!❤
@@RuLu075 I’m so glad you found what works for you and like the videos! ❤️
Great ideas and a beautiful bag. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 🥰❤️
Wow beautiful your organiser makeup kit bag wow
Hello! I know this is off-topic, but could you do a Megan Bucket Bag Tutorial? 😊
Very helpful and clear. Thanks 😊
This my favorite one so far!
Wow thanks for sharing! This definitely adds a professional finish.
Thanks! We need those clean finishes. 💕

Thank you! ❤ My product links are always in the video description. Here is the one to the pattern. loveyousewpatterns.com/products/spring-roll-pouch
What a beautiful bag! Thanks for sharing your tips. Do you using an industrial sewing machine? Did you find the thickness of all the vinyl to be difficult to sew? Your machine appears to handle it very well.
Thank you so much! I use the semi-industrial Juki 2010Q. My machine has no issues with the vinyl as long as I have a Teflon needle and don’t make too many extra stitching holes

Beautiful job❣️🧵🪡✂️

Beautiful bag. I love the clear bag. The tote pattern on your site is this tote bag pattern for the vinyl bag done on the u tube channel ? Thank you
Yes it is! Doesn’t it look completely different in the jelly and clear vinyl?
What a great video. Such a beautiful bag. The way you attach the top band is so clever and looks like it adds strength to the bag. I also LOVE your binding method. Never seen that before and I know I will be using it in the future.
Thank you so much! This binding method is great for boxy pouches too. Glad you enjoyed the video. 🥰
Ma'am can you include the measurements. Thank you!
You can find the measurements in the pattern!
god i miss doing this in school
Better than any homework.
Nicely done.
Thanks!
Hi, I just came across your channel. I love this bag, can you please tell me where you purchase your vinyl? Thank you
These are all from www.zippervalley.com!
too fast
In your settings, you can always slow down and/or speed up a video according to your preferences. Hope that helps!
Very nice!
Thank you so much!
Can I ask what machine you are sewing on? This looks like a Juki, and I just got a Juki TL 18QVP, but it does not like the clear vinyl. I would love to know what needles, other supplies and tricks you might use. Thanks so much!
You have a good eye! I sew on a Juki 2010Q. I think she sews vinyl very well. Although, TPU vinyl can stick to the table sometimes. Nothing a little lifting while I sew, can’t fix. If you plan on making lots of bags, I would highly recommend getting a “thick fabric” throat plate. The hole size in the plate is a little larger for bigger needles, which reduces friction and skipped stitches. I’m using a teflon foot and microtex 90/14 needles in this video. The stitch length is around 2.8-3.0mm. I sew at a moderate speed, not going too fast in order to allow the machine enough time to make its stitches. (The friction with vinyl can sometimes slow down the timing.) Hope all of this helps!
Have you at all figure ld out a way to possibly secure the bottom of the busses to the base of the bag? I'm having an issue with small notions slipping under the gaps and falling out when I open the bag all the way?
The gusset is free from the bag so that it can be sewn on a domestic machine binding free. So, I can only think of either hand-tacking the gussets to the corners of the pouch or maybe adding rivets that secure through the gusset and wings?
Excellent video and instruction!!
Where is the Tpu from?
This one is from Zipper Valley
I've been searching for a good vinyl rolled handle tutorial, and this one is by far the best I've seen!! Thank you!!!!
🥰 Thank you for the kind words! I’ve had this in a blog post for years and finally got around to a video. 🙌🏼
Thanks for this tutorial! Those look great, and I love rolled handles.
They are so chic, right?!? Thank you so much. ❤
@@LoveYouSew And comfortable to carry.
I just grabbed the pattern and I can't wait to make this!
Would you share what stitch length you are using? It looks longer than a standard stitch length. Please and thank you!
It’s 3.0 mm on my Juki TL2010Q. Over the thicker seams, I may move to 3.1 mm. The goal is to not perforate the vinyl to the point where it can tear itself off. Hope this helps!
@LoveYouSew One more question... what is the length and width of the exterior band? Is it the same size as the interior band (Qty 2 x 20 1/2" x 2 1/2") or is it wider for the vinyl? Thanks!
@@marybethbellardini7187 It is exactly the same as the instructions. Thanks for checking!
Dear Love You Sew, Hope you are doing well. I was analyzing your TH-cam channel . I am really impressed by your videos but your TH-cam channel has some issues. You have made many videos but your TH-cam channel is not getting views and subscribers. Because you have no complete SEO any videos, no channel tags, no video tags, no added end screens and cards, not SEO friendly title and description. If you complete all tasks then you get more views and subscribers with monetization.
I can’t wait to make this. I have a couple rolls of jelly and a couple rolls of pretty vinyl and I have not yet figured out what I wanna do and now I know exactly what I wanna make. Thank you so much.
Have fun! I went crazy buying all the vinyl and had to develop this for all of it! 😜

That's exactly what happened to me!
I did it! I couldn't have done it without the video, that was a life saver. Thank you. I have to make one more and feel more confident. The only issue I had was the zipper pull getting in the way whilst sewing the 'wings' and boxing . I ended up having to hand sew one side. But will make sure the pulls are far enough away next time. Kind regards Diane
Love it!
Instructions were great! Finished one today. :-)
Great to hear! Thank you. ❤
Christy, just received the spring roll pattern from you. Can’t wait to make my first one. Your voice on the tutorial was so familiar and after thinking “why does she sound so familiar?” I finally figured it out. I watched Sew Sweetness when she had topic How do you sell your bags ? You were one of the artists !!! I subscribed to follow your tutorials. Just thought I would share. Denise Mazza
Yes!!! Sara and I are good friends! I was on her show before I even designed my own patterns. Thanks for your support!
Love the fact it has no binding. Good tutorial
Perfect bag for summer trips to the pool, lake, or beach! Can’t wait to try this.
just a tad too narrow for my passport, I followed the directions exactly. otherwise I like the video.
Very nice wallet! Where did you get the snap press? Pittsburgh, PA
The one I use in this video is from Snaps Tools. I added the link in the video description. It comes from overseas and is good if you know what to order. (This happens to be my second press.) If you are brand new to hardware presses, I would recommend KamSnaps.com. They are based in the US and have lots of support and all the compatible dies and hardware for their tools.
@@LoveYouSew Thank you!
Wow it’s fantastic. My new go to method, thank you 😁
