Mastering Binding: Secrets for Perfect Sewing
มุมมอง 4428 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today we are going to be sewing binding on some heat Shields for this Auburn. That we have sitting on the lift. Not everybody needs an attachment.I don't use attachments when I'm so binding because I was put into the habit of not doing it. I'm not saying that it's easier, but it's something good to know.

I really want to start upholstery, but I’m bad at math and already 27 years old. Have to start somewhere! this video was great to watch! New subscriber ! :)
That's awesome! I appreciate it. Let me know how I can help, feel free to reach out with any questions
@@ThatCustomShow thanks for the reply! I have to many questions😂 Let’s start with which machine is best, can you do house furniture and sometimes let’s say boats or cars? Sorry, I’m super new to it all. Super fascinating trade :)
Where is your accent from?
Virginia

@@ThatCustomShow Even better man
I have been doing some boat sewing for our sailboat. I even installed new dodger windows .I was impressed seeing you had a Consew. That’s what I have. A really old one. I’m just trying to figure out what needle size you mainly use for your cushions. I am going to be making some too soon. I thought he said fabric but then he bought both - fabric and vinyl. I haven’t used my machine for over a year now. I just hope it sews ok. I have had issues with skipped stitches in the past. Thanks for your video. I will see what else you might have up as well.
That was amazing! Folding that panel over to pattern. Why did I never think of that!
I am on board for reality! I would like to see your method for alignment marks.
Magnifique ....🎈
Get a servo motor, I use the cutex ea550 with needle position sensor, you’ll never want to use a clutch motor again
I appreciate it, I've used em but I like the clutch motor. I've had enough digital stuff crap out and I know this clutch will never quit
@@ThatCustomShow that is true. I still have a couple clutch motors laying around. I use to have a big shop running 2 206, a 226, 206 36”, 745 30” and a cp206. I like consews. The 745 ran 2 hp motor and the cp had an internal motor but the rest used those servos. I did a lot of fire proof insulation wraps but marine upholstery was my passion, I did a lot of custom stitched art on the seats and being able to slow it down really helped me. I still mess around with it a little but everything has gotten so expensive nobody wants to sink that much money into their boats anymore. There is a lot of boats on Tahoe wearing my upholstery and snap covers. Anyway, I like your work it looks great
Thanks, the needle sensor sounds cool, if like to try that
@@ThatCustomShow the ability to easily stop with the needle down really helps with maintaining alignment when turning the work. It was an absolute life saver on the insulation wraps because they were so thick, we were sewing heavy silicone impregnated fiberglass fabric with 1” spun ceramic insulation backed with a stainless steel mesh, even the walking foot with full pressure had issues holding it. But it helps when stitching images too.
NIIICE🎉🎉🎉❤️🤍💙
Looks great Mike!❤
Perfetto
Thank you
Someday I will find a industrial machine that the owner doesn't know what they have
How do you reinstall the arm rest?
The same plastic piece needs to go back after the armrest is slid into position.
Cool
I ordered the sew foam and I love it. The only issue I still have is using a regular sewing machine I can't get the stitches on the top to be all the same. I set the stitch width to the widest because I want to see the sewing. But it starts good then gets less bold then towards the end back to bold how I want it. Any ideas? I'm trying to upholster my sons seats for his 1929 hot rod. Thanks so much,
Try loosening the tension a bit , also if you can press the foam down in front of the foot as close as you can it will help, just go slow
Thank you!!!!🎉🎉🎉 what is that pattern called that is plush and has just circle button kind of things popped into it all over but its really plush.
I appreciate it! I think it is called diamond tufted, buttons are pulled through the foam
Can you tell me which sew foam you use? I see there is stitch back, cloth back, scrim backed. Not sure which to use. Thank you and this is the best video I have seen! Oh one other question. Can you use a standard sewing machine on the foam? I've had issues using other foams.
Thank you! I appreciate that very much. The foam I use is pretty dense 1/2" sew foam. I would call it a very tight netting almost on the back if not very thin material. I'm not sure about a standard machine tho, try using the longest thread length and press the foam down in front of the foot to keep it from drawing up. Let me know how it does
hello what the correct diameter of the Backer Rod wind lace for a 59 impala
That I don't know
Fire
Great video! Could you please give tips on setting the machine up properly to do pleats? I’m getting pleats on the bottom but it’s pretty flat on the top side.. I’m working with leather.
☝️Nice as hell!! Do you sell these? If so? How much??
Thank you very much, Give me a shout 813-417-2211 Mike
What stitch is that on the sewing machine?
I probably had it set on 9 for the pleats
that looks sick brother
Thank you for watching, I appreciate it
Lol the good old red and black pleather rap from Amazon . Scammed
The 3 minute video shows me making the seats from scratch. The cahnnel aint called " I bought it from Amazon show" .
Awesome man! New subscriber ✌🏻
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it
Looks good Mark Tennessee
Thank you very much
Great work!
Thank you very much
Where do you source your pleat foam? I am working on a golfcart bench seat and having a hard time figuring out what to buy where.
That's one of the things I try and go pick up from a supplier, Gulf Fabrics, in Tampa, Florida. Where are you located? miamicorp.com would be able to ship ups
how much would you charge to reupholster a 20ft sun tracker, just ballpark I keep getting crazy swings in the numbers.
I'd have to see some pics of the boat, depends on amount and size of cushions
New subscriber 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for the sub
Is the sewing machine a Consew 206rb5? If so would you recommend it for auto marine upholstery?
Yes, it's an awesome machine for general upholstery. I love mine, and am planning on getting a new one at some point
@@ThatCustomShow Nice. Just made the investment in one. Waiting for it to be delivered. Then upholstery here I come. Appreciated
I had the seats done on my 04 single cab but now I wanna do the dash and rest of the panels how many yards of fabric do you think I’ll need
It's hard to say, depends on how many colors and the design, 1-2 per panel. 2-3 for the dash to be safe
This fye
Good job dude! Keep up the good work!
Thank you
Nice dude!
I appreciate it very much! Thank you for watching
Really nice! What was that roll of fiber called you pulled out and put over the cushion? Was this common practice with cars up to a certain year?
Yes, it was pretty common. It's a roll of cotton. Really helps plump up the seams and corners etc...
I appreciate you watching, thank you
@@ThatCustomShow I am going to watch and appreciate the reality of your channel. Iwould be interested to see how you laminate or use adhesive in your work too.
Real life, was that an all nighter? I will be watching your channel!
I appreciate you watching! I think I had some of it done when I did the live stream
So much reality to this work only those who work in the industry can understand. Do not change anything keep filming as because it is like having a mentor in your shop playing you videos while working.
Can you please help me with ordering that blue color? What’s the name of where do you buy it from
Sea Scape, Aqua is the color Action Upholstery in Sarasota Florida, other distributors have also
Great work. ...you make it look easy What kind of sewing machine do you use?
Thank you very much! It's a Consew 206-rb5
I don't understand how you did that. I need more detail...please. It looks great and so creative
Give me a shout if you need some help 813-417-2211 Mike, thank you for watching, and the compliments!
Wow, that's awesome. The finished project looks so good! You got the skills
Thank you very much 😊
I just purchased an 852 Speedster. The top could use some repair work. Can you DM me with your contact info ?

Aye man, love your videos gotta make them longer 👍🏾
I appreciate that very much! I'm glad some people enjoy em. Any ideas what you'd like to see a video on?
