I am an amateur classical guitarist. I love the instrument and its music, and I'd be honored to have you watch any of my videos.

Nice playing---good clarity and separation of notes each note is articulated nicely!!!
Thanks so much for listening!
Well played Eric!
Thank you, Steven!
If you would have told me this was a Tárrega piece, I would have totally believed you.
Thank you, Juan! While I love Tarrega, Shand deserves more exposure.
What a lovely piece! Nice playing Eric!
Thank you, Andrew!
So well played Eric! What a nice piece! You really highlight the melody, keeps the differnt theams together. This creats a very smoth and enjoyable feeling. Thanks a lot for this! Wish you and yours a nice weekend! //Tobias
Thank you, Tobias!
Welll played, Eric! Your interpretation of 'Il Pensieroso' was quite captivating and true to the time period. The emotion conveyed through your informed phrasing was spot on; your technique has gotten really solid. A moving performance; bravo! 👏
Thank you, Josh!
Thank you Eric! Very beautiful execution, and the piece is worth all our attention, 500 years later!
Thank you for listening. I honestly forgot I had ever recorded this! 😀
Awesome!!
Thank you for listening!
Bravo Éric! Cette pièce, qui e je ne connaissais pas (merci) porte bien son titre! 👍👏👏
Thank you, Andre, it certainly does!
wow what a performance Eric!!! Great job!!!
Thank you, Matteo!
Interesting piece, some chords sound very “pianistic-like”, while the up/down chromatic passages sound very idiomatic of the guitar. Great performance Eric!
Thank you, Juan! I definitely agree with the pianistic quality of his chords. His harmonies make his music sound and feel very new and fresh to me.
Very nice new music for me! ❤ Thank you Eric!
Thanks so much! I love Shand's music.
Well played Eric! Another piece/composer that are new to me. You still doing no nails?
Thanks, Andrew. Shand deserves more "airtime" and recognition. I'm afraid my fingernails are back. I was struggling to get a good tone with my index finger in particular, and I also struggled technically. The big downside for me now is that I much prefer the sound of my lute when I play with no nails.
Well shucks, that's a real catch 22. At least you have a nice alternative if you happen to break a nail. I myself just can't do without nails. You ever try Rico nails?
@@AndrewMichaelCG I have not tried any artificial nails yet, Rico or otherwise. I probably should, but I have been rather resistant to it, probably because I’d have to buy them (I am ridiculously cheap) and probably fiddle with them a lot. Nails are just so easy to me.
I tried them once and really didn't like them. I imagine one could get use to them after awhile, but I found it to be too much of a hassle. Just curious if you'd had tried them. I prefer nail gel. It's a mess, but it's a much better result once you figure it out.
Undoubtely the piece conveys inquietud !! As it was probably the intention of the author you got it with your performance. I enjoyed it !!! Have a nice day😃
Thank you so much! It is pretty intense music.
@@ericphillips7057 hahaha !! Hard to play if you're in a blue day😀
delightfull ! :D
What a lovely piece! Great tone Eric! ✌️😊
Thanks so much!
Nicely done. Would this have been on vihuela originally?
Thanks for listening! It was written for vihuela. The tuning is identical to that of a six-course renaissance lute. I wish I had a vihuela as well!
Very well played Eric.
Thank you for the inspiration, Roderick! That Yates book is such a treasure trove.
@@ericphillips7057 Indeed it is! Together with what can be garnered from the web, and the Schott ' Guitar Archives' I may have everything he composed. His Guitar Method 2nd edition is well worth reading. Compare it to the methods of, say, Sor and Carcassi. I first played a piece by him in the 1950's. He was 'out of fashion' then, but he may finally be getting the recognition he deserves. Best wishes to you.
Thanks for introducing me to this! Totally new to me :-) Nice agogics Eric , appealing calm pace. //Tobias
Thank you so much, Tobias!
There’s definitely something special in Shand’s composing…I love it and you played it wonderfully!
Thanks, Tate. His music almost sounds like film music to me. It's over 100 years old, but it always sounds very fresh.
@@ericphillips7057 I could envision that, for sure!
Great, Eric!
Thank you, Juan!
Super.🎉
Thank you for listening!
Wonderful
Thanks!
You never once looked at the fretboard… props to you! Well done.
Thanks so much for listening! I just listened to it again, and I wish I had practiced more with a metronome. My rhythm is all over the place!
Very nice, Eric! I remember this one being an LH killer. I always tell myself that I should play some Albeniz (either guitar or piano) and then I start and I'm like, "naaah - I'll pass" LOL
You nailed it about the left hand. By the end, I have to play the barres with my thumb off the neck and pulling with my arm. This and Mallorca are the only Albeniz I have managed to get my fingers around.
Incredible work you have done Eric!!!! Congratulation!!!
Thanks for sharing Eric! I really nice piece!
Excellent performance of a piece by one of the best guitarist/composers of the recent past.
Thank you! I agree wholeheartedly. I had heard of her as a performer, but until recently, knew nothing of her compositions. They are wonderful, and deserve to be played much more often.
New subscriber! Your playing and the camera angles are very nice!
Well played, Eric! Your interpretation brought out some beautiful nuances in the piece. I did notice that the tempo was a bit more relaxed than what I’m used to hearing--which I do remember is your preference. The slower tempo gave it a unique and thoughtful feel. It might be interesting to experiment with a slightly faster tempo at times to see how it changes the overall dynamic. Admittedly, I listened to this a 2nd time at 1.25 speed and it was a captivating performance with the appropriate amount of Spanish flair. I suppose my familiarity with the Alica de Larrocha interpretation is likely influencing my tempo preference.
Thanks, Josh. After listening back to the recording, I agree that I am playing it too slowly. Since making this, I have been playing it quite a bit faster. Maybe I'll re-record it at some point.
I thoroughly enjoyed that Eric! And Wow! A really tough selection, genuflections maestro! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks! My left hand is pretty fatigued by the end of it.
Well played Eric, such a poetic piece.
Thank you, Juan, I agree.
You playing some serious repertoire now man ! Well done 👍
Thank you, Alan! It is pretty challenging for my left hand, but thankfully it’s not a fast piece (although after listening to myself play, I think there are parts that I do need to play a bit faster).
@@ericphillips7057 apiece like that will always need to be worked on !! Will you keep practicing this one even though you have it recorded?? Do you keep some pieces that are recorded in your hands ,? The tendency is to leave them go by the wayside is nt it 🙈
@@AlanMcCarthyguitar Yes, I will continue practicing this. I worked on it just this morning for about 30 minutes, and I am already playing it quite differently (a bit faster especially). You are right, the tendency is to stop playing a piece once it is recorded. I often intend to keep a piece "in my fingers" but then life happens and I move on. I think this one may be a bit different, as it is such an incredible piece that practically everyone would enjoy. Also, despite its length, I have found it easy to memorize.
What I love about your videos and I mean this in a very complimentary way is you display a fine level of playing I can aspire too , where as a concert professional will play pieces at such a extraordinary high level that would be far beyond me , your videos are excellent and far more realistic standards for me to use as a template
Thank you, Alan. I appreciate that thought and relate to it a lot. Sometimes the professional level performances, while a joy to listen to, can actually be a bit disheartening. I am particularly discouraged when I watch videos of small children playing pieces I will never be able to play!

You have captured the feeling in this piece in a very nice way! Beautifully performed. You seams to be so relaxed and free. Your interpretation appeals to me :-) Thanks my friend! //Tobias
Thank you, Tobias!
magifico!!
Grazie mille, Matteo!

Thank you!
Excellent rendition! Bravo Eric! I really enjoyed it!
Thank you, Stefan!
Well played Eric! To me, this one is the most “romantic” in the series, even with the modernist language used. A true gem.
Thank you, Juan. It is full of emotion.
Very good 🎼
Thank you very much!
This is really a charming piece! So well played Eric! So nice to high light the melody like this :-)
Thank you, Tobias!
wonderful!!!
Thank you, Matteo!
Bravo Eric, i loved the tempo you choose, I’ve heard this piece in so many different ones. This is the perfect character!
Thank you, Juan!
I really enjoy this little Villa-Lobos gem. That middle section is full of interesting chord choices. Just not sure about the ending. I could never get it to feel right when I was playing it. I do like your take on it. Excellent rendention Eric! BTW this is your first upload in a while where I was already familiar with the piece. 😂
Thank you, Andrew. I don’t typically play the more popular pieces. Of course, the word “popular” is relative. We’re not talking Taylor Swift here!
I heard ya. "Popular" as far as classical guitar music goes. I appreciate that about your channel.
Nice version!
Thank you!
Beautiful performance Eric. Do you have the tabs for this piece to share?
Thank you for listening. I don’t have tabs, but I have the score in standard notation. If you send me your email address, I’d be happy to share.
Thanks Eric. I do have the score. Looking for the tabs. Thanks for offering.
Beautifully performed Eric! This is a real gem! Thanks for sharing! //Tobias
I love this piece. You played it excellently!
Thank you very much, Matteo!
Superb rendition of this classic Eric! One of my favourites from Sor, really great playing here of a very challenging piece! 😊👍
Thanks so much! It is really fun to play. I wish the fast arpeggios sounded more like arpeggios and less like rolled chords, though.
