Home Refresh Journey: A Cozy Minimal Home
Welcome back! Today, I'm excited to share the latest updates on our living room refresh. Continuing the theme of change from my last episode, I'm moving from decluttering to revitalizing our living space with new energy and style.
Last spring, I started decluttering and eliminated 80% of my belongings. This process brought joy and clarity, leaving me with a nearly blank canvas filled only with things I love. Now, it’s time to add the pieces our family needs and wants, creating a space that works for us in our current life stage.
After 16 years, I'm replacing our bulky sofa bed with a sleek, compact sofa. This new sofa marks a fresh start, providing a cozy spot for quality time together. I'm replacing our old roller shades with drapes for a fresh look, better sound absorption, and added character. For lighting, I'm exploring new fixtures and floor lamps to brighten and enhance the space.
I'm considering repainting a wall with a warmer shade of gray to complement our new sofa. Also, I'm looking into a new projector for our entertainment system, aiming for a more streamlined and enjoyable movie-watching experience.
From adding greenery and carefully selected furniture pieces to ongoing repairs like fixing baseboards and replacing leaky fixtures, every change is aimed at enhancing our cozy, minimal aesthetic.
This refresh is about more than aesthetics; it’s about creating a space that truly serves us-a place to unwind, connect, and make memories. I'm excited to share this journey with you and hear your thoughts.
Don't forget to like, subscribe, leave a comment, and share this video. Thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next episode!

    Your home is lovely and your floors are beautiful! I love the look of an area rug and admire them in photographs but in my home, I have none. Same for wall-to-wall carpeting. I vacuum daily and running my Miele over bare floors is not only quick and enjoyable but keeps my home free of allergens and impeccably clean. I love that a lot more than any rug! Also, same for under bed storage. Where feasible, I keep floors clear, including inside the closets. Being a minimalist certainly makes that possible.

      Thank you so much for your kind words about my home and floors! It sounds like you have a fantastic cleaning routine that really works for you-running your Miele over bare floors! Plus, with daily vacuuming, I can see how you'd keep your home free of allergens and spotless. @SimplicityPlus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like a smart strategy! Glad you've found a system that works for you. Buying in bulk on a quarterly basis can indeed save both time and money. By purchasing items less frequently, you avoid multiple trips to the store, which not only saves time but also reduces the temptation to make impulse buys. Plus, having a well-stocked supply means you’re less likely to run out of essential items. How do you manage storage for your bulk purchases?

      Thank you for sharing your experience! It sounds like we have similar feelings about our plant collections. Transitioning to fewer, larger plants can definitely make a bigger impact and be easier to maintain. If you feel ready to part with your small plants, giving them away can be a wonderful option. Personally, I asked around my neighbors and friends, and I found a handful of people who were interested in adopting them. I gave them to a neighbor who already had a collection and wanted to add mine to theirs. I knew they went to a good home! It's great knowing they'll go to someone who will appreciate them. Ultimately, it's about creating a space that feels right for you. Trust your instincts!

    You mentioned you still buy table napkins. Why not just use cloth napkins and throw them in the washer with your other laundry. Better for savings and less trash in the landfill.

    • @SimplicityPlus
      @SimplicityPlus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I do still buy paper napkins. I find them to be versatile as they double as kitchen paper towels. For me, it's all about striking a balance. While I do use reusable napkins or towels (those made of compostable materials like cellulose) whenever possible, there are times when the food I'm dealing with is greasy or prone to staining the napkins. In such cases, cleaning them requires more water and soap, not to mention the additional electricity if I'm using a washing machine. So, I feel it's important to find a balance between convenience and being mindful of our resources. I'd be happy to hear more about your solutions to this if you have any additional tips. I'm grateful that you caught that small part in the video about my paper napkins ✨🙏

    • @Carole616
      @Carole616 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SimplicityPlus OK, I don't use paper towels either. I use rags instead of paper towels and they also go in the washer. I don't feel that I am using more electricity because I just put them in a wash load I am already doing.

    • @SimplicityPlus
      @SimplicityPlus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Carole616 That's a great approach! Using rags instead of paper towels is definitely a sustainable choice, and it's wonderful that you've found a system that works well for you and minimizes waste. For me, using cloth napkins and rugs to wipe off excess oil and food that can stain leads to increased water, detergent, and electricity usage. Especially after a leak in our kitchen sink, our plumber recommended avoiding draining greasy food (or anything at all), as it can damage the garbage disposal and pipes. Since we cook often at home, I'm striving to strike a balance between conserving water and maintaining the integrity of our garbage disposal and pipes. Additionally, managing cloth napkins and rugs and washing them regularly adds an extra layer of managing belongings. It's absolutely true that many of us fall into the trap of impulse buying, especially when we're bored or seeking instant gratification. I can totally relate-I've been there myself, and it often led to items ending up in my "purge" pile. Purging can indeed be difficult and painful, and it's a powerful reminder that I don't want to bring in new items just to fill a void. I'm also glad you asked questions, as I enjoy interacting around the content I care about. So thank you for asking. Regarding your first question, my partner and I walk our dog twice a day. I usually take the evening shift, so I try to get my walking in on my own. Some days, I add an extra walk with the pup midday. As for the side stool, I purchased it recently after I parted ways with my heavy coffee table, bar stool, and a chair. Mostly, I wanted a flexible surface where I can put my legs when lounging on my sofa. It has satisfied my needs. Your support and engagement mean a lot to me as I continue on this journey. @shirleydavid09 It seems like this video resonated with more people, including yourself, even more than the all-black wardrobe video! It's interesting to see that this, along with the first minimalist tips video ("4 Things I Stopped Doing as a Minimalist") are now the top 2 videos on the channel. I'm glad this happened because I never intended for this channel to focus on fashion. Even in the wardrobe video, while I showcased my clothing items, the emphasis was on simplifying life with fewer clothing choices, organizing them, and packing with ease. I plan on continuing the "minimalist habits" and tips series and can't wait to work on that in the near future. If there are other types of content you'd like to see more of, please let me know. I'm in the process of decluttering and I'm finding that just seeing more floor space makes me feel so happy and refreshed. I've found a charity place in my hometown that have the most lovely ladies. The last time I went there I spent some time speaking to one of the ladies, as I was concerned that my items might not be suitable for them and I found the gratitude and kindness made me feel so incredibly happy. It's lovely to know that some of your items can have a second life and you're helping that to happen.

      @SimplicityPlus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can completely relate to that feeling! It's amazing how simply seeing more floor space can bring so much joy and refreshment. I've also found myself wondering why I cluttered up so much to cover the floor in the past. Interestingly, experiencing leaks in our apartment multiple times, resulting in floor replacements, has given me a newfound appreciation for seeing the floor. That's partly why I've chosen not to put a rug down at the moment-I want to fully enjoy the beauty of the bare floor. Also, it's truly satisfying to know that our items can have a second life and contribute to someone else's happiness. Thank you for sharing your recent experience at the local charity place!

    • @SimplicityPlus
      @SimplicityPlus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, ordering the wrong size can be quite frustrating! That's interesting that you're considering going larger, as I've been contemplating the opposite. My table is 47" in diameter (about 120 cm), and I often feel it's too big for just two of us. I've toyed with the idea of downsizing, but I haven't stumbled upon the right opportunity yet. It does seem too pricey to replace unless a good-condition second-hand option in a smaller size pops up. In the end, the size of the table truly depends on our unique needs, so I hope you'll be able to snag the larger size with four legs when the timing is right during the sales. It's all about finding what works best for us!
