I worked at the Savoy for many years in the 1980s it had Style - Now only good for Football players
Beautiful classic.@12.03 Did the presenter just piss all over the floor😂😂😂😂😂. What an end to a career😅
Think the hotel is more than a Grand. I do expect the carpet is at least £1.600 😅
A beautiful hotel . I first visited this in the summer off 1988 where i ordered a pot of tea . I have been in there since but never stayed in there as yet ? ❤❤❤
Very interesting story! How deep were those pool? Where did the users of those pools Learn how to swim? I can understand why the rich people that Knew how to swim were upset to swim with ignorant poor people of the lower class that did not know how to swim and wanted to use the pool simply to clean themselves.
Buildings like this should be preserved.
Sorry. Didn't like it.
What british theatres lack i think is some dts like audio
“Film stars, celebrity chefs, fraudsters, murderers, sex criminals” were the last three really necessary? I feel like they’re kinda implied in the first two items on the list. Heck, they probably could’ve just left it at “celebrities” and we would’ve filled in the blanks.
I worked at the Savoy from 1976 til 1979 most at the time at the Savoy Grill, it was a fantastic hotel at the time and the service delivery was out of this world. The Savoy Hotel London gave me the edge that opened many door world wide! Thanks Savoy Hotel ad Friends
Absolutly gorgeous,i love learning about the history of the hotel, makes it much better
That was a really program, well presented,i love the Midland, and have stayed on short visits really enjoyed it,love yo go sgain👍
Good joke: "How long are you staying?" "Until they ring my bank."
Visited the Savoy last month: sumptuous, a bubble isolated from the real world. One curious observation, though: Adjacent to the elegant entrance to the exquisite WCs is a grand portrait of our late Queen. Why there? Is it a subtle joke, linking one throne with another, perhaps?
Most leisure pools have closed. Flumes had their day.
The first public city pools were filled by water from the aquafiers. A first class swim was clean cold water. Day three was second class. From day five it was third class. Then empty , clean and repeat.
I raced Kevin over 100m when we were kids. He was slow but had already done the channel.
Please boycott this hotel: it is owned by the dictatorial family from Qatar. Apart from all the classics (no freedom of speech, no free press, tortures…), LGBT people are persecuted and women are second class citizens. If all that is not enough, migrant workers from poor asian countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India…) work there in near-slavery conditions , specially during the construction of the infrastructures of the recent football cup. Give your money to someone else. Javi Caballero (Spain)
Very different in recent years under Leonardo. Finally the refurbishment it’s deserved for years!! Luxurious again 🎉
Anyone notice the black and white checkered floors? Hmmm…
I was a first year student from Abroad, studying at what is now the University of Brighton that year. After the days studies I went to a discotheque called the pink Coconut right close to the beach . It was a beautiful Friday night and the club was packed .Dressed in a black suit with white shirt and bow tie I wanted to think I looked cool! My friend and I met a couple of girls and left the club at 2.00 am in the morning with them . We stopped at a Turkish Donner kebab place , picked up a wrap each and headed down to the beach where we sat facing a well lit building ..The Grand hotel! At 3.00 am or so while we were "necking" , the bomb went off and shrapnel flew around! Within minutes siren and mayhem began !! I remember that some revelers had set a bonfire on the beach and the "bobbies " were all over them ..!! A year or two later I took my then girl friend for dinner on her birthday ! I did not know I need a jacket to dine at that fine establishment but discreetly the maitre d' guided me to a wardrobe and found me a Jacket and the evening was saved! It cost me 50 quid plus tip in 1986 money! lol The IRA again bombed malls and other public areas ..ruthlessly , I might add! After that I started seeing more police with guns!
I love coffee
Medusa on the wall and the freemasons checker floor says it all.
Why is that oik presenter wearing his big brother's suit?
I loved going to the pictures. There were so many picture houses from local "Flea-pits" to the posher ones. I remember going to watch a film with my Mum and Dad once at a posher Cinema. My Mum dressed up for it. During the Intermission or maybe before the film started (was a long time ago) there was a bar. I had to sit in a corner and remember watching my Mum having a sherry. Wish these old picture houses still existed. My Father was from Plymouth so we`d often travel down that way. It was a special treat going to what I remember as being called The Drake Cinema just off a main roundabout. There was a little model Gallion underneath the signage.
So close...what a better world it would have been
Had beautiful memories of the Savoy hotel stayed there a few times. You forgot to mention the most important fact; it has the only right lane drive in the whole United Kingdom what I thought was unique.
Lees robbed me 😅
U was until lee pettengell and a coat of arms robbed u
He gave me a bad taste on his opening….idiot
Deeper NOT more deep. Did you go to school??
Thank you for this! I am an Agatha Christie enthusiast and dream of visiting Burgh Island! I want to get there fast while it is still as it should be!
Do it, very nice place to visit.
I was a chef there in my early 20s for a couple of years, what an experience, the work was hard and the days were long... but, i loved it.
Thank you so very mutch. Amezing beautyful & onbelivebl expensive.😊😋🧁🫖☕️
So naff, people getting in this now. Holidayed there as a child from from 75 -03 and saw the hotel from it derelict to this ghastly monstrosity. Preferred it as it was with the fab Tom Crocker Inn and Amusement Arcade and derelict hotel.
Guessing this was from around 98? Saw that year on one of the flags, thought it could be later though.
The description says 2005.
Auguably one of the great social achievments of the British Empire dash Commonwealth As a Lifeguard and Swimming teacher ive enjoyed visiting the old outdoor pools apparently our mum and dad took my brother and i to Butlins as crawlers and toddlers and i kept gravitating to the water so they decided to take us regulary usualy on a sun morning Then we would get back and dad would cook an enormous fry up only once a week mind but it was special Ive chosen to live near the sea but my holidays these days are spent visiting the old pools before the dodgy local Councellors sell them off to built flats for homeless russian Oligarcs or non swimming illegal immigrants oh well fingers crossed for a bit of Nortern European sunny weather ?
How tf does this guy kiss?
Imagine having to dust that lobby light fixture
Absolutely no way I'm dipping a single toe in a public swimming pool after watching this.
What an adventure it was, going to the pictures! Those were the days.
Mass production does not Float My Boat. I'll stick with Home Cooking.
Hope the tory party don't come and stay.........be absolutely terrible if it happened again...or not
Maybe Claridges where Morgan Freeman stays!
Why did Mariah Carey leave this hotel after arriving? Is this a racist hotel? I am Black my husband and I, and we want to come to London next Christmas, and I want to be treated well.
Best you stay in the US with that pathetic attention seeking attitude. Your colour had nothing to do with any of this. But you sure brought your dumb racist me me me BS into it!. Stay in the US as your attitude isn't welcome in the UK.
With you guys everything is about racism 😒
Sounds like you are the racist! Don't visit. The UK do without bigoted, racists from the US. You're not welcome - because your character sucks!
The curse of the Woke! The most racist, bigoted, nasty, hateful group of individuals in the modern world! @@Bianca-dw4qh
What is wrong with this guy, why does he say "mall" like that? Its a simple word to say. ALL with a "M" in front of it. This guy is saying it like "malfeasance" and "maladjusted" and "malice"... I know he's British but, come on, everyone else knows how to say it.
You’re not that funny.
Look at that travesty of a ceiling 9:42
“The wine flowed like wine”. Really? Where are the copy editors?
Costs as much for a week as 3 days at Disney's new Star-Wars themed hotel. Oddly, willing to bet it's a much nicer experience.
