LMR400 Coax Jumper Cable with PL259 UHF Male Crimp Connectors. Episode 1 VK5SMO HAM Radio Series.
This is episode 1 of my HAM Amateur Radio Series. I purchased a magnetic mount antenna off of Ali-Express - an ANT-7900D...

..I was originally going to use this on my car but have decided to use as a base station antenna. In order to do this I've learned that I will need to create some form of 'ground plane' or add radials. Thus, I will need to test the antenna's SWR after I do this. Hence - video 1 - create a Jumper Cable for use with the SWR meter.
This is not a how-to. This is my journey. Any suggestions on why the SWR varied between the cable and non-cable tests would be appreciated. Cheers.

    Its normal break in, 25 :1 mixture. After 2 gallons of that you can switch to 50:1 and be just fine. The smoke is also normal at 25:1 with a new 2 stroke. For noobs to 2 strokes thats a pretty standard break in cycle. Itll also increase in power so beware there, 96cc at full throttle can snap a wrist clean.

    • @stephenmoore8960
      @stephenmoore8960 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Aaron. I've only used it in sandy soil and rocky chalky soil. The machine is only as good as your own strength. As soon as it catches a root or rock it will transfer all its torque to your arms. To counter this affect i have braced the handles against my leg which helps. It's a good idea to feather the throttle too. It would be strong enough in clay soil, but i think your arms would have trouble fighting it. I must create some form of brace to take the stress off my arms. Cheers.

    Your cable looks to be very close to a 1/4 wave on 2m and about 3/4 wave on 70cm give or take because I have little reference to scale. Your best jumper should be near 1/2 wave for best results. Using the published. 82% velocity factor your best LMR 400 cable should be the following in CM for a 2m and 70 cm 1/2 wave jumper. 2m 146 mhz = 81.244 Cm 70cm 445 mhz = 25.908 Cm. Radio waves have physical dimensions and any cable will cause changes because of the jumper cable being used. You can actually get a forward power reading higher than the power of your Transmitter because of this. And your second item is using a PL259 UHF connector for your jumper and apparently on your SWR bridge. Below 300 Mhz a UHF is ok, but even then it is not a 50 Ohm Impedance connector, but above its maximum rated frequency of 300 Mhz it makes precise test reading incorrect. You need to use a N Connector anytime you are operating above 300 mhz. Most professional engineers like myself will use N or BNC 50 ohm Z connections and only use a UHF connection at the radio and if the antenna uses a UHF. Professional shops will use N Connections at all antenna connections and then if the radio has a UHF they will run the last jumper from the antenna ground and poly-phazer RF surge protectors N connection with a UHF connector on the radio side of the jumper. By the way very good job installing the UHF connector on the cable. A heat shrink tube covering the cable side of the connector that is shrinked will give the connection more waterproofing and a much better mechanical strength. Welcome to ham radio a lifetime of learning about radio technology. This advice is part of that learning experience. We pass on information to let you learn and gain experience in the art of ham radio. Its called Elmering and as you grow in experience you should pass it on to other new hams as well. 73 K5RIC

    I have installed one but the hose can’t seem to handle being under pressure. The hose gets very rigid and leaks. So I had to add another turn on/off valve to the bidet hose. It is annoying that I have to reach down uncomfortably every time to turn it on and off at the valve. Is there a better solution please?

    • @stephenmoore8960
      @stephenmoore8960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting you've mentioned this issue pineapple. We too experienced the same problem. I was a little confused why the leak occured as we purchased the gun from Thailand. From what ive seen in Thailand the water pressure is very strong so wasnt expecting the hose to leak. My first solution was to change out the hose for something more studier. I replaced it with the style of hose that normally attaches from water outlet to cistern and didnt have any issues after that. It's a pretty stiff braided hose though. Since moving house our plumber installed a non return valve and tap - so we do the same as you - switch off water to gun when not in use. The hose we use now though is flexible soft plastic - it's never leaked when ive forgotten to turn off water. So that's my recommendation - the soft flexible all plastic hoses.

You have convinced me to give this tool a go on my Milwaukee Chainsaw. Also, would you have an idea on how many times you could sharpen the whole chain in one charge?

      Hi Leo, thanks for the kind words sir. You're definately making the right decision in purchasing the sharpener, I think it's good value too and can be used on other things. We took it to our land one weekend and used it about 3 times to sharpen the chain without recharging it and it still had plenty of juice left. I unfortunately can't be sure how many goes you'd get out of one charge but at a guess at least 5, most likely more. Cheers chap.

      Good stuff chap. Yeah, my Thai wife wouldn't live without one. Bit of an update - we moved to Adelaide last year and had one installed by a plumber - only for the fact we wanted the non return valve installed as well and the bit of paper saying it's all legit. If you can find the non return valve i reckon it's good to install it too - it has a tap so you can turn off flow to the gun and still have water to the cistern - a handy option if you're heading away for some time so you have piece of mind the gun doesn't fail. All the best mate. Cheers. 👍

    Greetings! I've got a bit of a strange request. There is a chance that this engine might be the 1E53F 79cc engine manufactured by HuaSheng/Kasei. This engine is unobtainable nearly worldwide, there is a slim chance that GIANTZ somehow is using it though. Would you ever be able to measure the bore of the piston?

    • @stephenmoore8960
      @stephenmoore8960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Tyler, if i ever take the engine apart i will certainly take some measurements. But to be honest, it's not something im intending on doing in the short term unfortunately. Sorry i couldnt be of much help mate. Have a good one. Cheers. 👍

    They can break your wrists, the amount of torque they produce, you can definitely hit the water table if you close to sea level or near a creek bed. The water table is only a few metres down in many parts of Australia.

      Hi Sam, I wasn't aware water levels were so high in certain areas, cheers for the info chap. Totally agree about the torquie'ness mate - gotta be careful.

      It's funny you should mention this. We now live in Adelaide, it gets pretty bloomin hot in summer. Our roof tiles are black and the roof cavety the water pipes run through gets might warm. The first 20 seconds or so of the bum gun is almost too hot to use! Gotta be careful! 😀

    Can this tool be used to sharpen a lawn mower blade? And if yes, any lawn mower or only Ozito lawn mowers? I ask because I use an EGO lawn mower.

    • @stephenmoore8960
      @stephenmoore8960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Behram, I'm guessing yes due to the fact it comes with a variety of fittings - one specifically designed for blades. However, i have only ever used it to sharpen my chainsaw. There's a few pictures here showing it sharpening a blade.. ozito.com.au/products/3-6v-cordless-chain-blade-sharpener/ ..sorry i couldn't have been anymore help - perhaps a fellow youtuber has some experience. Cheers mate. 👍

      We moved out of that place a couple of years ago and decided to remove the gun incase the new occupants didn't want it. It was easily removed and no holes left in the wall. Happy days. 👍 cheers.

    Couple of tips for other people starting out, one is that the bar oil that comes with the chainsaw runs out quick, so get some more oil while you're in bunnings. Another is that the default depth gauge is 0.025" and may not dig into harder woods like dead euc as much as would be ideal. Perhaps taking the depth gauge tooth down to 0.03 or 0.04 would make it dig in more, though I believe you don't want your RPMs to drop too much.
