Great point about living sensibly with nature - not something that often comes to mind when creating software. As you say Asim, we are so abstracted from reality as software engineers! Great session and keep up the good work, GSF!

Carbon aware Software Dev is new to me and I would love to hear more about it. I can imagine that such stuff is complex and needs global coordination and budgets to get real stuff deployed and managed on global scale. I do not believe that Carbon Awarness will work for local on premise installations. However, I am new to the topic and open to learn and experiment. Still not sure where to start exactly. Is there an onboarding process?

Hyperscalers and server providers already optimize electricity, while companies will not downgrade their service just because some server in some server room isn't getting clean enough power. This would cost them customers and then money.

I agree that most companies will prioritize revenue over clean energy. But for some functions which are not bound to the core services of a company, it can make sense to implement carbon awareness to reduce electricity consumption. For example, reducing the Quality of Experience features which have little impact on the revenue. Asim gives some examples in his Webinar from 28.09. This can also reduce costs for companies because they use less energy, and local renewable energy is often cheaper than brown energy. But I think this is all still in its early stages, and the size of the impact it can have has to be determined by trying out new ideas.
