How to add fragrance oil on this, what percentage of FO? Should i add preservative ,like liq.germall plus, to prolong shelf life? If yes, how and to what percentage? Your video is very educational. Hope you make more videos with regard to liquid soapmaking. 😊
Nice video❤❤❤❤
Thank you :)
How to make shampoo out of this? And what is the saponification time.. as NaOH takes 45 days, how much does KOH take?
To make shampoo you may dilute the soap paste as instructed in the video. Because we did not use heat to aid the saponification process, we suggest leaving the soap paste curing for 3 weeks to let excess lye settle and for its pH to drop to a more gentle level.
What's the superfat plz?
Superfat or superfatting is using extra oil in a soap recipe with unchanged amount of lye. It is used in order to result in unsaponified oils so the soap is more moisturising. (Also known as lye discount.) In a liquid soap you want as little superfat as possible because any unsaponified oils would separate and float atop the soap which may go rancid.
Can I combine the two koh and Noah for a thicker recipe
That's a great idea and yes you definitely can! This is called a dual-lye soap, read more about it here: classicbells.com/soap/dualLye.asp
I am a bar soap maker and have coconut oil 76 is that not the correct one?
76 degree coconut oil refers to its melting point, it's another name for refined coconut oil. You can indeed use it to make liquid soap, just remember to select the correct coconut oil when calculating recipes.
Can we mix the olive oil with coconut oil?
You can indeed add olive oil to the recipe, just remember to recalculate the entire recipe. Also, olive oil is much slower to saponify so if the recipe is high in olive oil you may need to add some heat (e.g. using the stove) or mix with a stick blender to speed up the process.
Thanks for the tutorial it’s much better. Greetings from Virginia
Awesome! Much love from Ireland :)
@@GentleLivingShophi. Do you have another video more slowly so I can copy. Thank you my friend
Thank you mam! This is a proper way of teaching.
Thank you for watching!
Is it safe for body shower? Or is it to drying?
It is safe to use on the body. Coconut oil soaps tend to be more drying, you can experiment with adding olive oil to the recipe for a more moisturising formula. (remember to recalculate other ingredients too!)
Thank you! I used this method and it works better than any other I tried!
We are so pleased to hear that! Enjoy your sandals🥰
Fantastic!!! 👏💕
thank you!
Thanks sister for giving information
thank you for watching :)
Normal water or distilled water is used for diluting the soap
We used normal tap water. But if you have hard water in your area then distilled water would be a good choice to reduce impurities and soap scum.
based
😇
this could be used for skin on frame boats, canoes, velomobiles, etc profably covered by shading cloth
Good idea, in fact, waxed canvas was originally made to use on sail boats before it was used in garments etc! (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waxed_cotton)
size feet?
Feet shown in video is size 37.5, US 7 and UK 5, around 22.5cm.
How to add herbs with it mam any idea
You could use herb infused water instead in the recipe or when diluting. Adding fresh/dried herbs straight into the soap would probably make it go bad/mouldy quickly.
Can you please convert the recipe to cups for us who don't have scale
Cups measure by volume, which is not as accurate as weighing with a scale. If you are making soap we would recommend investing in a scale for better results!
Can we use another oil instead of coconut oil.how to calculate the amount of the oil ?
Yes you certainly can use any other type of oils, although some oils (like olive) are called soft oils, which means it takes much longer for the soap batter to trace. You could consider heating the soap batter up to speed up the process. To calculate the amount, we like to use this online calculator (www.soapmakingfriend.com/soap-making-recipe-builder-lye-calculator).
I really appreciate the sentiment, but I believe there's a paradox that needs a solution. We need people, both creators and viewers, to know about PeerTube. The best way to do that is to upload to TH-cam. But if you stop uploading on TH-cam, less people will know about your channels on other platforms, they'll not even know about the other platforms eventually. Bryan Lunduke once made a stance away from the platform, unfortunately all that resulted in was others taking is place, not a huge nor growing community following him to the other platforms. He has since returned to TH-cam, though I believe he uploads all his content to the other platforms as well. This doesn't give much of an insensitive to check out the other platforms. Nor does completely disappearing from a platform, since that tells the viewer you are removing all value from them unless you follow. "I might as well stay here and find someone else." they might think to themselves. Rather, perhaps a better solution is for creators to continue uploading their content on TH-cam, but offer extra bonus content, extra value, on these alternative platforms. Think of Linus Tech Tips promoting Floatplane or many other creators promoting their cross promotion of Nebula & Curiosity. That's the best solution I can think of right now, perhaps there's better. This rewards the viewer for being brave & adventuring onto new platforms. Give them a treasure worth adventuring for! That's my two cents.
Personally I think this is the best move, as we have a reason to finally switch to PeerTube just to watch creators - anyone who switches to PeerTube would be the right kind of creators I'd be interested in. It's the simllest argument that you have to stay on the safe spot to continue growth while making a change, but I prefer that you must cut off cold turkey of you want change, instead of holding on to your support wheel. Different ways for different people, I guess.
👏👏👏
great video, i was worried about making this hot process style but i don't have to,,,,,,,,, when you put the soap base into the water, is it boiling hot water or just cold water?
It’s cold…whe she adds the lye it heats it up
We use room temperature water to mix with lye and also to dissolve the soap base. You could use warm water when dissolving the soap base to speed up the process.
I tried your recipe with olive oil and it SAP value, it didn't get thicker, how can I possibly fix it, thank you
Olive oil is a soft oil, it is slower to saponify compared to coconut oil which is maybe why your recipe did not thicken. You can heat the soap batter on low heat while stirring (hot-process soapmaking) or use a stick blender. Traditional Castile (olive oil) soap without heat or stick blending takes hours to thicken so patience is your friend! (read more about it: korenhelbig.com/homemade-soap-traditional-castile/)
@@GentleLivingShop ah, thank you so much, it is clear explanation, 😊 😘
Thanks so much you are a good teacher am watching you from west Africa Ghana .
Hi from Ireland! We thank you for watching :)
Please, can it be used on the body right away
Yes, after the soap has finished going through saponification, there should be no more active lye and therefore can be used on the body right away,
💓💓💓
Im joining peertube as well it seems very fun and interesting Thanks
see you on peertube!
is it possible to do this in the washing machine for a large amount of canvas bags? thanks!
It is possible to do this in the washing machine, you should use the highest water temperature setting your machine allows for and put in washing soda and liquid soap with the load. This will not scour to 100% though because the temperature you are scouring at is decreased.
Thank you😊
You're welcome 😊
Hey how about adding pockets to this
Hi! You can add pockets of any size you like when sewing up the side seams at Step 3.
How does PeerTube work with Mastodon? I'm already on Mastodon and I don't understand how this fediverse thing works across very different types of instances, like PeerTube (for multimedia) and Mastodon (Twitter-style microblogging).
Because PeerTube and Mastodon are both part of the Fediverse (a collection of platforms using the same ActivityHub protocol), they can communicate with each other thereby letting you follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon. 'You can comment, like, share etc PeerTube videos and subscribe to PeerTube channels entirely from within Mastodon. Just copy and paste a PeerTube video or account URL into the Mastodon search box and press enter. You will then be able to interact with it just as if it was a Mastodon post or account.' for more tips: mstdn.social/@feditips/107100827274511827 :)
Will try this recipe.....I see you stopped at medium to thick trace. Will it still thicken in a few days if I am being lazy and stop mixing further after light trace is achieved? Or do u recommend going all the way to a thick trace for this liquid soap recipe? Thanks
If you stop mixing after light trace the soap batter will probably have a harder time reaching thick trace and may result in seperation of oil and lye. But if you fancy a try anyway do make sure to insulate the soap batter very well to keep in the heat to help with saponification.
Do you let the lye solution cool down?
There is no need to let the lye cool down. The natural heat of the lye solution will actually help the soap saponify.
Hi, .... great video....can this liquid soap be used for washing clothes or dishes.....my liquid soap is leaving white soap marks on the dishes and does not easily clean out grease, what can be the reason? And how much excess coconut oil to add if I want to superfat your recipe to 5% coconut oil instead of 1%?
Hi, yes this soap can be used for washing clothes and dishes. The white marks your liquid soap is leaving may be because the soap has not been cured completely. Or if you have hard water in your area the white marks could be soap scum. The way to reduce soap scum would be to add citric acid and/or salt to your soap recipes. Soap scum is not harmful and can easily be clean with vinegar + baking soda. Higher superfat in a liquid soap recipe is not recommened because it tends to result in free-flowing (unsaponifies) oils in the final product. However, if you would still like to increase the superfat from 1% to 5% in this particular recipe, simply reduce the potassium hydroxide (90% purity) from 84.81g to 81.38g.
😍😍😍😍🥰🤗🙏thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching🥰🥰
Can we use it for hair wash soap base ??
Yes you can use it as a hair wash😊
Thanks , WHAT IS YOU MEAN1% SUPERFAT ?
Superfat means: using extra oil in soap recipe with unchanged amount of lye in order to result in unsaponified oils. It is also known as lye discount. For 1% superfat, you add 1% more oil/butter or use 1% less lye in the recipe.

haha! hope yours turned out good :)
what is another name for j hook? where can i get it
It is called a G hook, try searching with keywords like 'adjustable G hook buckle'. You can probably find it at your local craft shops, or try an online marketplace.
@@GentleLivingShopthanks a lot my friend keep going👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice but I have doubt, after 3 weeks also my liquid cloudy for that what to do
If your liquid soap is cloudy it does not affect the quality of it. Many different things could cause cloudy soap and it is in our opinion pointless to pursue a 100% clear liquid soap. But if you must, to get clearer liquid soap you should: --- use 100% distilled water in the soapmaking process as well when dissolving the soap paste --- use as little superfat in your recipe as possible --- use heat to speed up and complete the saponification process (search: hot-process liquid soapmaking in a slow cooker) --- Even if you don't follow the tips above, dissolved soap paste will usually clear up if you leave it to sit for 24 hours as the cloudiness will settle.
@@GentleLivingShop thank you so much for reply
Please tell me what is mean 1:1 paste: water,?
1:1 (paste : water) means for example: put 100g of soap paste + 100g of water. It denotes the ratio between paste and water.
@@GentleLivingShop tanks à lot
Tanks a lot Could this soap be commercial?
Yes you definitely can sell the soap paste.
Can we add colour
Yes you can indeed add colour, we recommend you add the colour at the final stage when you dissolve the soap paste for use.
