Overwatch opinions and analysis.
The Priority Pass Killed Overwatch
Its always interesting when simple systems have complicated results. Even more when simple systems have such bad results that they can almost entirely by themselves, kill a a game.
A lot of hay has been made about how queue times went up because of people being unwilling to play tank. A lot has been said about double shield and boring gameplay loops.
But what if there was another entirely separate mechanism forcing players out if the role?
Apologies for the terrible cutting and background, I'm trying a new recording style and couldn't fix the buggered up mask! Wont happen again but I've wrestled with it for enough hours at this point so its getting shipped!

Love the video! But i did notice you cut your edits to late sometimes and you can see you walk forward to what i assume is your script. Just some feedback. Idk why it bothered me so much lmao. Again though great video. I didn't play during this era so this is very interesting.

everything you said in this video is wrong, every issue you said the priority passes caused are 100% mental issues on all sides not at all caused by the passes at all, like take the roadhogs and other selfish tanks being picked, is that a bad thing? since when is playing a specific hero in a hero shooter a bad thing? its not, people hated roadhog because roadhog's flaws in his design, i say this as a hog main since 2017, people hate hog because of poor design+jank, this is entirely on the hero's fault not the priority pass

I don't even play overwatch and I found this really interesting it is amazing a character that negates all other rules for tank being released and then after a ton of nerds and reworks it is still the most annoying tank to play against
They could have just removed the stupid fucking role queue system and have people pick their role when they load into a match. But no, Blizzard would rather let the game die than revert the crappy system they created

Make shift have bigger area and more knockback, and make the vertical jump at the end a lot higher, so he can climb some high grounds but not all Maybe add a bob like launch for the shift so enemies that were hit during the charge are launched to the air For E, increase duration, lessen effectiveness, make it togglebable like Dva's matrix or hog's heal to some degree so you don't get countered by half the roster Make his ult bigger area and make cardiac active for free while in the cage All of these changes are fun focused But yeah the overhealth instead of healing or a mix of both is probably the best change without changing anything else

Let’s fix my support main. First idea is for the Life Grip to instead be a temporary invincibility. But if they hold back or press S, then they get the grip effect. Otherwise there is a cooldown reduction, and they get a small heal. This prevents accidental or troll grips from having too much impact on the game. Second, we need to bring back the destroy petal ability, but instead it just lowers it. So that way if you’re on a petal and your teammate wants up, you can press that button and it will go down for a second so they can get on. Third, why does his secondary fire consume 2 ammo per shot? It makes it misleading, half the ammo capacity and make it consume 1 like a normal fucking person. Also give it a slightly faster projectile speed, it feels like I’m shooting a homing turtle. And give it a new, more noticeable sound. It sounds like I’m shooting a Temu Star Wars blaster. With these changes, I feel like it could be more of a choke-spam tool. Now increase the healing time and give it a slow, but let my man charge up his primary fire while he’s shooting his secondary. Baptist’s can do his shoot-heal combo, and I think my man weaver should take inspiration. Remind me: why does his ultimate exist? A mostly stationary object that gives you some heals and other stuff. Never before seen concept! (Besides kind Zenyatta, Kiriko, Juno, and kind of Baptiste). I don’t have any suggestions for a new ult, but his ultimate is basic af. Maybe it should spawn a couple of petals that only your teammates can use, or it could have a one-time effect where it pulls a teammate towards it when they would’ve died otherwise. It’s just a glorified Illari pylon. Anyway that’s it
You can bring horses to the water, but you can't make them drink. Or, in context of Overwatch, you can make DPS players pick other roles, but they won't stop being DPS players.

Mauga is one of those tabks that fits better in 6v6
9 months later and they changed mauga a little by doing what you said. Point 2 do be precise. Fire gains much faster. Honestly, I love Mauga. Big Samoan guy with two giant miniguns go BRRRRR. But the execution was done poorly, I agree

Im actually a tank player that quit ow1 because I was tired of roadhog every game on both teams
A system thay encourages hoarding of resources and selfishness? Is this man talking about capitalism? The problems seem obvious after this analysis. 1 ticket for a loss and 6 for a win, you can theoretically just throw games (or a soft throw) to lower your SR so you can win more tickets. The win payout is 6:1, way too high and incentivized gaming the system.
Personally, I do not think that the 6v6 testing will go well without a ton of tuning and overhaul. All new modes and maps are made for 5v5 (kind of like how the old ones were made for 6v6) Heroes have been entirely reworked to better fit 5v5 instead of their origins which were built for 6v6. All new heroes are designed for 5v5. A solid chunk of players will have zero knowledge of 6v6 gameplay since they joined during OW2 and its 5v5. I think 6v6 can work, but it will need a ton of reworking and overhauls to be viable. If they just toss it in after confirming its playable, it will be awful and not even a fair judgement of the mode. Unfortunately, I do not put it past Blizzard to just toss it in and let it drown.

as a tank main who always duoed with another tank main this didn't affect me like at all

Realth thank you for this video. I’m never able to explain to people the complexity of why OW/tank suffered in OW1, and it’s because I didn’t have a 20min video to do so and I forgot about priority passes (you even pointed our some issues with the system I didn’t even realize). In open queue if you played tank you couldn’t guarantee a second tank player to take the heat off you, it was essentially playing 5v5 solo tank but with less HP and an additional player to shoot you. You also couldn’t guarantee having two supports or even just one so you could efficiently resource trade. Playing Rein without a support, he becomes not a character after taking just 300 damage. No wonder people didn’t tank then! It wasn’t a problem with people not liking tank itself. Your only options were Rein/Winston/Zarya/Dva for teamwork tanks, and if you wanted to solo tank or be more DPS forward, it was Hog. Adding AFK shield Orisa and strange playstyle Ball was not going to attract people to the role. Let alone the addition of Brig and later Baptiste which invalidated DPS, but if they did that to DPS imagine how little fun it is as tank since you have even less damage! Then we get role queue and it’s instant double shield meta due to Brig/Bap and the addition of Sig. 222 Role Lock was smothered in the crib. Then all the issues you talk about in this video occur, and no wonder people didn’t like tank in role queue either. People act like tank just isn’t fun full stop, and don’t take the time to think about or consider WHY. Going forward we now have so many more tank options and very fun ones at that. We can have a system where you can reliably have another tank and support so you don’t feel useless choosing the tank role, whether it’s 222, min 1 max 3, open queue role limit on tank/support to 2, or hybrid queue. Then finally Blizzard just needs to rework all the immortalities and make sure AOE healing is either nerfed or has a drop off like Lucio’s, like they refused to do. People have told them the answer on this for years, hopefully now they listen.
I used OQ Comp to work on my Wrecking ball knowing I was gonna be only tank & probably not have a support either, it taught me self sustain & now he’s one of my best tanks along with Winton & Sigma in OW2. I’m my groups tank player because I can flex to any tank we need…OWL also taught me play styles & gave me more knowledge on how to improve
@@CGTradezYeah it is possible to make it work, but I’m just explaining why people dropped the role in OW1. I still played tank but a lot of it was suffering. Ball is a great hero for solo tanking, and why I’m in favor of open queue role limit to 2 tanks & 2 supports. So theoretically you could run triple DPS/ball or quad DPS ball/Mercy (or whatever modern version people can come up with), but at the same time it prevents GOATS or similar tank/support stacking.

I think his charge is pretty good And the only change required would be to increase the cap of overhealth he can get- would make crit stomping multiple people rewarded and increase his skill expression
All this is ignoring the actual worst change to overwatch. Role Queue. It has caused 10x more problems than it solved, and ruined certain players entire playstyles (like myself). I completely quit the game the season after it came out, because it was so contrary to the entire original selling point of the game.

If i remember correctly Rodhog/Zarya comp was just a flavour of the month cause blizzard gigabuffed Rodhog at that time, and Zarya was just a very good combo with Hog cause she covers his weakness to CC/Ana nade.
road hog as a lot of health and kill people instantly. its not fun. also hes only good on some maps. they need to change the hook so it more predictable.
