NJ Wreck Dive on the Delaware - Low Visibility dark dive
This dive took us to the wreck of the Delaware, a Clyde Line steamer that sank in 1898 due to a fire. Originally planning to dive the Mohawk, we had to change course to this alternate site because of rough seas. Surface visibility looked promising, but on the bottom, it dropped to just 1-2 feet, making exploration challenging. Despite the conditions, I spotted a lone butterflyfish, a lobster, and several Jonah crabs. Water temperature was 57°F, with a max depth of 74 feet during our 43-minute dive. Unfortunately, the poor visibility limited our ability to search for any artifacts or further marine life on this historic wreck.

NJ Wreck Dive with Amazing visibility, Sharks, eels, tropical fish and lobsters

On Saturday, October 30, 1890, the schooner Cornelius Hargraves sank approximately 6.5 miles off the coast of Barnegat, NJ, following a collision with the steamer Vizcaya. The wreck now lies at a depth of 80 feet (24 meters). We completed two dives on the wreck, with an unusually good visibility estimated at 50-60 feet (15-18 meters). The water temperature was a comfortable 60°F (16°C). Schools...

Maybe one of the last good dives of the year before the fish go to their winter home. Lots of juvinile black seabass, snowy groupers, toadfish and even some tropical spot fin butterflies braving the 59F water.

My dive buddy and I were diving in Point Pleasant, NJ with a focus on picking up as much garbage and fishing line as we could from the bottom. When we were on our way back to the exit and almost out of air mother nature rewared us with a visit from a sea turtle. With limited air we could only spend a few minutes together but we will remember it forever. A Loggerhead sea turtle at this site is v...

@ That’s crazy ! I just got back from the Philippines and they could be fish you would see there.
My first open water check out dive after the Quarry......1977. It was a great dive, remember it well
Back When, i found out why, and was disappointed. I mostly feel exactly the same, still. USA
Used to dive on the Delaware when I was young late 70's - 80's and had to use Loran C back then with a paper machine to find it , lol ..Never really caught anything big fish wise on this piece guess it gets pounded .. Even had to free dive couple times to remove the hook n chain .. Won't be doing that anymore .. be well MB ..
Commercial fishing fucked up nj fisheries.
I'm amazed there's tropical fish off the NJ coast
Awesome video. It is great to see a wreck and such active sea life at the Jersey shore.
You see the extra pony bottles. That’s Jersey diving!
Fantastic video.
What are the large schools of fish swimming by? They look bigger than bunker.
Is that an American eel? I was surf fishing the other night and something like that swam past me
Awesome to see a cinder block 20 miles off shore ....SMH !!!
The body attached to it and the accompanying rope has drifted away.
At 2:22 lower right those are my jigs i lost, can you grab them? LMAO Thanks for the video, nice to see what we fish on
The Capt should learn how to anchor and not hook and destroy what's left of the wreck.
BIG TAUTOG !!! Hiding in the reef at 11.46 bottom of the screen. Loved the video!
Wow that looked like a 20"+
Man that wreck is covered up in dogs and baby black seabass. Theyre inquisitive lil sob's arent they? Swimming right up into you, checking you out. Couple tog here and there, a conger(?) In the beginning. Do you know what those lovely black/yellow tropicals are @5:00 ?
This video is awesome, and thanks for sharing.
Great video! Really enjoyed it.
No sharks those are spiny dogfish and they’re all over the coast of Nj right now. Seabass fishing has been tough because of it. But great video and nice to see how clear the water is getting the past few years
@@jamesps7515 dogfish are sharks but I agree they're wimpy. Just like a Chihuahua is still a dog.
They have been hitting top water plugs too!!! 😂😂😂
Pretty bright blue spots and wicked spines behind their dorsal fins. ...and they have teeth enough to rip up lines and fingers.
A dogfish is clearly a shark my man
what species were the schooling fish @3:07
@travelingwithelliot8001 absolutely not. They're thin, long, and have stripes. Bunker are none of those things. They look like green bonito although theyre moving hella slow.
Nice video, fall diving of nj is the best!
Wow, that was great
My inlet 👍👍 ...........
A big sign of the warming waters.
Water temp in the ocean today was 54 degrees and will continue to get colder so I’m confused on the big sign of warmer water temps when these tropical fish show up every year, they get caught in the Gulf Stream and pushed up this way. I’ve been fishing the North Atlantic my entire life and it’s been the same every year for 30+ years.
so cool, can you please check just inside that bridge in the center on the channel for a Penn gold940 on a Penn 6' rod my nephew knock off my boat a few years, It was only 1 fish old when he lost it. Yes, I'm still made at him for that.
Would you mind grabbing all the lures I lost in that spot other day?
The Point Pleasant first aid dive team actually recovers the sinkers and lures and sells them each spring at a fund raiser event. It is a major funding source for the Dive Team.
I'll have to look it up, nothing like buying your lost gear back for a good cause
@@kylemarkloff4451 Look up the "Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad" on FB & "Fishing flea market" . I just looked it up and last year it was on February 25 at Antrim School in Point Pleasant Beach.
That is so cool I had no idea they did that. Thank you for the info!
Did you see any striped bass
I did not see any today
That was sick and so informative as far as how it goes down at night in the water wow Go Get’em 🫡🫡
Awesome. I love how clear it is. Kind of sad to also think about the overfishing that negatively impacts this wildlife.
Awesome vid!
No one fishing ?
Is that near the bridge or the boat launch ?
Between A street and the Ocean Ave bridge
so used to the pacific. The atlantic always looks alien to me, in a kind of uncomfortable way. Kinda like freshwater does anywhere outside north america.
I love fishing saltwater in Jersey . I had no idea there is this much life there under the water
awesome , thanks!
thx so much for a great video, got my heartbeat up when i saw the stripers but whole video was terrific
Great videos, I love the lil fish 😊
Great footage!
What months do those tropical strays start to die?
If your from new jersey it's jersey
So true!
Awesome
Love fluke fishing there in summer and strippers on fall
When jersey viz is great, it's Great!
What is the fish at 00:42 seconds ?
You should do this by the SS Atlantus wreck.
Great video. One would never realize how much life is down there
did you ever notice any squid at night?
Yes. th-cam.com/video/3c22iH72pP8/w-d-xo.html
@@travelingwithelliot8001 that's crazy never expected to see squid in belmar.
I love how a group of starfish is called a galaxy lol
It is amazing how many exotic species show up in New Jersey late in the season. Love the videos.
great video ! this just motivated me to get diving ! this is a amazing spot
Very nice! I'll have to go back there soon--went there once this summer with my gear and nobody was there at the time so I kinda chickened out since I'd never dove there before.
