Deck Checkin Lord of Nazgul CEDH deck over $700
The Nazgul, fallen kings of men that are beholden to their pursuit of the One Ring. Their leader, the Lord of the Nazgul, is a ferocious opponent in Magic: the Gathering and in Lord of the Rings. This cEDH deck is not a cheap one, at over $700 bucks, and some will point to it being a budget card and say it is not competitive. They are wrong: play against it.

At 18.50, haha that was my reaction too! Didn't know he'd made that upgrade, he's snuck that in there the low key.
@@adammcknight5584 haha, surprise!
Thanks for the great review Joe, yeah Commander Sphere is a good call
Ha, this one did fairly well. A lot of angry comments about me calling it a CEDH deck, but that is okay. They have that vague criticism that is indicative of someone who actually knows the topic they are expounding on well. Enough sarcasm, thanks again, man!
People are very upset that this deck doesn't have Thassa. I think that could be good, maybe too powerful though.
@NerdinKorea yeah I am not an infinite combo player I find winning by combat exciting
@The-Swift-Kobold Yeah, feels like other people get to play too that way.
No fast mana, tutors, Thassa?
That is actually a good point. I think you are the first person to comment on this who actually has something to contribute. I posted this on Facebook as well.... oh my.... Anyway, that is a helpful and constructive suggestion. Thanks!
@NerdinKorea I get that your goal is to kill with the big bois, but with Mana Vault, Mox Diamond, etc. you'll be achieving the goal of the deck faster. And since you're cantripping through the deck having a two card combo like Thassa and Demonic/Tainted is good to stumble into. Talion, Poliwog, and The One Ring also will help with consistency by giving you more card draw to get to the pieces you need to pop off.
Gisela is great prep a good board bring her in as a wincon
I feel like even earlier in the game, you can just use her to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
Niv-Mizzet is a scary commander so much combo potential
He just keeps popping up the last thee weeks. This is at least the fourth time.
Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm is in my deck such a beast when it is out : )
I bet! Absolutely terrifying!
These videos are what's gonna result in my picking up a bundle. Merry Christmas! Congrats on no junk rares and a few awesome ones!
@@jben6 I was very happy with how this came out. Best in a long while.
I agree Scourge of the Throne is a beast card should be way more than 0.33cent.
@@The-Swift-Kobold some of these just do not make sense as far as cost goes
When it first appeared in Conspiracy (I think that was the set), it was a $20 card. Now lots of printings and powercreep reduced the value. Which simply means we can run it in multiple decks!
@@jben6 I wouldn't expect it to keep that high of a value, but a 5 dollar card, I think that would be reasonable.
I love so many of these dragons : )
They are getting noticeably better cycle to cycle. You might say they are heating up.
Cool list I have never seen Scourge of Kher Ridges before but it is a cool card. Silumgar, the Drifting Death is my go to Dragon boardwipe because it has Hexproof and get's around Indestructible
@@The-Swift-Kobold I hadn't seen that one either. Easy board wipe!
Merry Christmas, sir! What part of Korea are you in? I was deployed down at Kunsan Air Base back in 1994.
@@patrickwhitney1974Merry Christmas! I'm in Cheongu, kinda in the middle.
@@NerdinKorea Cool! Looks like you got some good cards in this opening. Not too shabby!
@@patrickwhitney1974 I was quite happy with it! Good start to the Christmas!
Interesting list Lozhan, Dragons' Legacy, Dragonlord Ojutai, Atarka, World Render are budget dragons I use in my Tiamat deck and they do a lot of work
That is exactly what I was thinking.
Dragon Turtle is interesting, especially for my monoblue sea creatures deck. Savage Ventmaw and Aggravated Assault means infinite attacks. I may have upset opponents when I discovered this in-game. Deathbringer Regent is one I have not played or seen played. Probably because of that hefty 7 cmc. Numot killing lands. I made my comments in that video. Kill those nonbasic lands!!! Hellkite Charger needs nonbudget tricks (outside of Bear Umbra) to gain infinite attacks. No love for Sunscorch Regent? It grows, gains life, flies, and is under budget. All for 3WW.
I hadn't thought of that combination either! I had someone go infinite in the last game I played and she didn't even realise. Luckily, she doesn't play with infinite combos, so she just ignored it. I think she won anyway...
These are some strong cards. Cantrip decks can be a bit boring to play against because they often spin their wheels and don’t do anything, but not these cards.
I think the same. I didn't want to build a cantrip deck because of that, now, I am pretty interested.
I daresay these are ... charming. Chaos Charm - At the time, Walls were a regular pain in casual games, as I recall. Especially Wall of Swords and Sunweb. Still, haste for R isn't bad. Ivory Charm - nothing saves this outside of Mirage Block builds. Ebony Charm - you're quite correct on your assessment, not that my agreement matters. Seedling Charm - maybe in pauper? Outclassed anymore. Sapphire Charm - draw or two ways to kind of evade. In a pinch, maybe. Still, all of these ARE budget, which matters.
Oh! I can't believe I didn't think of that dad pun! Damn, damn, damn! Well, done, sir. I do feel like these also fall into the 'interesting from game development' standpoint. Agreed, the budget thing might be the one saving grace.
I'm not a fan of most of these dragons. The dragonlords they become, however, are awesome and I have think I have built decks around most of them.
I was looking at the newer ones as well, they do shape up a lot. The earlier dragon cycles have not aged well. I think it is interesting to look at from a power creep perspective.
I've always loved these dragons. Vorosh is currently in a half-built state in my one-day-a-deck box (alongside Ana Sanctuary) and ran a Teneb deck for a while - maybe I should rebuild it, as there have been MANY solid cards printed since then. Oros and Repercussion can be ugly. Intet lives in the 99 of my decks, but I don't recall ever using it's ability. Numot and land destruction is pretty cool. EVERY deck should run targeted land destruction; if you run nonbasic lands you should expect someone to blow one or more of them up. As for MLD, it should only be used to seal the deal, not just a blind reset or a grudge play, because you're right, it makes long games longer.
Totally agreed! Land destruction is way too loaded an issue. Targeted land destruction, particularly if they can go get a basic, is just good sense. Vorosh seems like one of those cards I would have for ages and never actually see in action. My Saheeli, the Gifted deck has a bunch of those.
I sued to to run Yosei in my Dragon deck and it is very underrated it did such work
The legal implication were the issue. Just kidding, 'used to', got it, just kidding.
I didn’t know about the white one. That is so interesting
I have had that one kicking around for ages and never used it. I got to dig it out!
As devout Dragon fam boy this video makes me want to build an Elder Dragon deck to complement my Tiamat deck
These, against the right decks, are at least something. The previous ones were interesting from a game development angle, but i wouldn't ever consider them for a deck.
Well anyone who spends time brewing some of the obscure commanders I like gets a sub.
Thanks Robert! It is appreciated! I like doing the more niche commanders, but they do seem to get fewer views.
So would treasure tokens tap for 2 mana with her rather then one mana ?
Yeah! Crazy stuff! Soooo much mana.
@@NerdinKorea i made this deck for my gf with a few changes but we never realized that about Roxanne ! Thank you so much for the decklist it's very strong
@Badcomedy1 I hope she enjoys it! This is one I have been cobbling together as well.
That was a great listing of artifact commanders! Thanks for the work you put into this. I was thinking about building interesting artifact commander, but still can't decide haha.
Thanks for the positive comment; it is the first thing I saw this morning and it kicked off my day ! Another artifact commander I would recommend is Saheeli the Gifted.
@@NerdinKorea You are more then welcome! I know there are plenty of new Commander youtubers around, so it's hard to stick out. But I can only encourage you to stay true to what you want to do and have fun (as long as it's fun). :)
@@NerdinKorea As a personal question, do you have videos on Kamigawa (OG or Neon Dynasty) commanders? Or LotR? Those two are probably among my favourite sets ever. :)
@@ThaMobstarr Hope to hit monetisation in the next month, that'll help!
@@ThaMobstarr I did two videos on budget commanders from the Kamigawa block last week actually! The series is called "Lost Commanders". I did Savriors of Kamigawa and Betrayers of Kamigawa. It was not well received. Probably going to drop that one for a bit. Check it out though!
I have lost to Savara a few times fantastic commander.
@@The-Swift-Kobold She looks scary! These days, she would totally have a sac option built in.
Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker looks awesome. Liking these Kamgawa video's.
@@The-Swift-Kobold It is still listed as one of the top aristocrat commanders on edhrec.
Thanks for the analysis! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Hi, thanks for the appreciation! Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea what you are asking me. Sorry, I am useless on that one! I don't really know anything about crypto.
cool video Joe
Thanks! I am hoping this one does well. It seems like something people need. My wife had no idea what to get me.
Great list very interesting cards. I really like the Celestial Kirin
@@The-Swift-Kobold I think it is interesting looking at the cards pre-commander. I feel like Kaho wouldn't get made today.
Coming back to the game with 5th edition being the last time I played, this has to be one of the most confusing and poorly explained mechanics in Arena. Thanks for helping make some degree of sense of it, as well as mechanic. Hadn't even encountered that one yet.
@@adammotter It does not feel intuitive.
Doesn't Kaho lose the spells exiled with them when they leave the battlefield? Since the new Kaho entering is considered a different card.
Good question, I don't think so because it is reliant on the spells being exiled with by Kaho's ETB. It isn't necessarily attached to a specific instance of Kaho. That is how I read it anyway. I checked the errata, nothing to say otherwise.
Tor wauki is better than judith imo
I think a solid argument could be made about that. She is new, give it a year or so and we'll see her really start to gain some prestige.
Cool deck, have considered Revel in Riches ? It is a fun wincon
I had actually thought of that at one point and even ordered it, never actually got to the deck though. Good call! I gotta dig that up again.
I like the command cycle but the powerstone just says tap add colorless mana. This mana can’t be used to cast no artifact spells. So it can be used for any activated abilities. And there are ways to convert that mana into colored mana or mana without restrictions. So overs very nice.
@@TimIce-s4n I like Roxanne for that.
Taii wakeen perfect shot is so fun and so strong because the card removal is card draw it fuels itself.
I think you covered her before as well. She is an interesting one! It would be a fun build for sure.
Cool list Imodanwe looks great !
I think if I was going to do a burn commander, she would probably be my pick. She is number 1 for good reason. I can't believe she dropped in price.
Yay for Boltwave!
That was on my list of cards I was hoping to pull!
Taii Wakeen - use it's second ability on Pyrohemia? Neheb - I remember when he was a $20 card. I run it in the 99 of Heartless Hidetsugu. The new Boltwave is a solid choice, as is Price of Progress. Firesong and Sunspeaker - the trick is to play your sorceries and instants when they are needed, NOT to wait until the commander is in play; once I accepted this, FS and SS became a much stronger performer for me. Judith - I might have to build her. Imodane - I tried this deck, but without Imodane in play, the deck was quite lackluster. It could have been the 99 or me or the group, but still. I do want her to work, though.
I imagine that an Imodane deck would fall apart pretty hard without her in play. That is a big downside.
I'm always down for burn - even the nonmonored ones!
I haven't built one of these, it looks pretty tempting!
Some cool pulls High Fae Trickster is great, was thinking of adding it to my Alela Enchantment deck. Loot is a good commander played against him before
I was happy to see loot in the mix! Only a couple bucks right now. I am throwing Fae Trickster into a deck I am building right now. Nice timing on that one!
I really like Kolaghan's Command destroying Artifact is great in Rakdos. Not many cards have that in those colours
@@The-Swift-Kobold That is a good point. These seem to offer a good number of options that are uncommon for the color pairs.
Harrow is incredible for landfall/ramp in general imo
It is. I might do a whole green ramp video later, that would be a must have on the list.
Pretty sure Instants and Sorceries arent permanents.
Yep, I think what I said was everything except instants and sorceries are permanents. I may have stated that poorly though.
The Archetype of Imagination is the strongest of the cycle, effectively making your team unblockable, so 4UU is a fair price for it. 6GG for mass hexproof... I don't know. While I see some targeted removal and hexproof, I don't know if its enough (for me) on a creature not inherently evasive with trample. Maybe there is a reason I am not in charge of development...
@@jben6 I agree. Dunno about that high cmc for hexproof. Only 3 gor trample... kinda weird by comparison.
Archetype of Imagination is a potential Win Con in token decks like Lord of The Nazgul or Elenda and Azor and Adrix and Nev, Twincasters
I was just looking at the twincasters for a new series! That would be a combo and a half right there.
I am a Miirym player and the other day I got reckt by Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines. Not exactly budget but it also shut off my Scourge of Valkas, Garruks uprising...
@@fake_rodras That would do it too!
My favorite Miiyrm counter is Artificial Evolution, I just pick an arbitrary creature type such as "asses" that my opponent can double up on instead of dragons
That is a funny way to do it! Just make it a goblin commander or something out of the blue, that would be hilarious!
Counter hom he's 6 mana then he is 8 mana, at 8 mana the fame is going to be over by then.
Yeah, that is true. I suppose we were thinking counters specifically for him. Any commander could get counter spelled.
Brago
I thought the same thing, actually not on their high synergy list for some reason.
Dude, elvish warmaster would be a $100 if it wasn't once per turn
@@dammedbybeaver6255 Agreed!
Pretty sure Tireless Tracker is under $2 now also. First time seeing 'Inquisitive Researcher', Murders at Karlov Manner has a lot of sleeper cards. I think people were a bit underwhelmed by the silly theme of it but there are some great finds. Sharp-Eyed Rookie is one that springs to mind (also green). Chalk Outline seems great in Golgari too.
I considered putting some of the investigate cards in, but i think I will do a separate video on investigate, cause I already have one on clues. It'll be a good follow up.
