Antique Shopping at the Rose Bowl Flea Market
มุมมอง 2003 ปีที่แล้ว
I went shopping at the Rose Bowl Flea Market last month to fill some gaps in my living room decor. I went with my friend Dalia Moya (th-cam.com/channels/1GFr8zgVO6M1rAhtcP267.html). My husband Jared Gay (th-cam.com/channels/4gVpDWirIoLy2fg-QHQT5A.html) filmed the excursion.
I made my own quilted coasters from fabric scraps

I sewed by hand quilted fabric coasters using scraps from other craft projects. The light pinkish cotton fabric was originally a white pillow case. After it ripped I dyed it a light pink using a leftover avocado dye bath. Hand sewing curtains for my new LA apartment
มุมมอง 8913 ปีที่แล้ว
Almost exactly a year ago I made curtains for my previous new apartment in Brooklyn (th-cam.com/video/u0qUv9RxmXc/w-d-xo.html). Now I’m across the country in Los Angeles and once again making curtains for a new apartment! At first I was disappointed that I accidentally bought the wrong fabric, but unless you look very close up, the fabric looks the same. Apologies for the lesser sound quality i...

How to declutter responsibly | Moving from NYC to LA
มุมมอง 2923 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently moved across the country from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, but before I did, I had a lot of *stuff* to deal with. When we talk about decluttering, we usually talk about what to keep and what to get rid of, but I want to talk about the how of “getting rid of.” Our belongings aren’t gone just because we throw them in the trash or drop them off at a charity shop. It’s hard to know exactly w...
Making a quilt from old t-shirts
มุมมอง 8713 ปีที่แล้ว
Recently I went through all my clothes and sorted out a pile of unwanted t-shirts I could repurpose. I decided to use them for a small quilt for my new nephew for his first Christmas present. I have very little quilting experience, but I figured it out as I went along! Jersey fabric is kind of difficult to work with, but it was worth it since the finished blanket is very soft and cozy. I’m real...
Winding a ball of yarn by hand

Winding the yarn into a ball is one of my favorite parts of the knitting process. I haven’t decided what I’m knitting quite yet, but I wound a skein/hank of yarn into a ball in front of my parents’ lovely Christmas tree in the company of Rocco, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Hi there, do you mind to share where did you buy the wool? Thank you for a nice video by the way.
Where I can find the needles
Would you mind writing out what you used for yarn, size and type of needle, the things you used on the thread to tuft, and how you knew how much wool to purchase? I’m looking on the website you mentioned and there are many options to choose from! I have a queen size futon I’d like to restuff and i think this would be the perfect avenue. Thank you for showing the detail in how to tuft. It was very helpful!
what a beautiful french mattress
Very gentle and peaceful video, and I loved the pace you worked at, the music too, and the pictures for each chapter heading. I would say that we must check the distance recommended by the batting manufacturer between the rows of quilting, as some batting may need closer rows of stitching to not pull apart when you wash it. The closer the stitches the firmer the quilt will feel. There are many styles of quilting, from Japanese sashiko to Durham feather stitches and whatnot from the UK, and then to quilt pointed tops as well. People quilt along the edges of pattern pieces, or ignore the pieced pattern and do an all over pattern. Some stitch with big running stitches, some really fine, so each stitch looks like a tiny dot (which takes ages to do). Some may prefer to use a thimble! The results of your efforts are lovely and you’ll get a lot of satisfaction snuggling under that treasure! You probably need to make another one, and another!
Considering doing this.. how is the mattress holding up 4 years later?
Hi, I was so relieved to find your video! I've been toying with the idea of making my own mattress for years. I actually bought a readymade mattress from Home of Wool and it was like sleeping on a meadow-scented cloud. Unfortunately, it got moth after a few months and I had to throw it away. Have you had any problem with moth? Also, when my wool mattress got a bit flatter and firmer, Home of Wool sent me some more wool and I just unzipped the cover and undid a few of the tufty bits, and refilled it. Perfection. But damn those moths. Am ordering the diy kit now!
I wonder if adding cedar chips or sawdust to the mix would help with that problem, without affecting your comfort? You could also perhaps use cotton for stuffing, perhaps.
How did you know how tight to do the tufting...??
waw ,, that's amazing l:here in Algeria ,we still use this types of matress today .Along time ago , women would buy sheep wool , wash itand let it dery properly before making this kind of matress .It's downside is that it's very heavy and defficult to clean
When washing the quilt might it shrink? Because I would like to make a linen quilt
Yes but you could pre-wash your fabrics, including the batting (which I carefully punch and agitate in the bath or it may disintegrate!)
Such a sweet quilt! Thank you for sharing!!!
What length and width did you make these? I really like them
Comment achète 1matela chez ?
IMPRESSIVE !!! 👍👍👍👍👍 YOU HAVE GREAT PATIENCE. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR VIDEOS.
2:14 Does it smell bad like goat hair?
I had one from Home of Wool and the smell was of meadows.
Hilary! I appreciate this simple and minimalistic blanket. I look forward to making my own. Thanks for sharing.
Looks very thick and comfy. I’m sure you could make one with half the amount of wool.
Yarn scraps in a jar helped me and it is pretty with all of the colors! 😇
" Standing Ovation " for your masterpiece ! Thanks for sharing , okay ?
Nice job!
New subbie uk🎉 I love hand stitching and crochet x
Great things at that market. I’m sure a hat with a brim to keep Sun away from face will help. That wooden chest you showed was gorgeous!
So glad you kept the orange skirt lol. 😅
Linen is a great fabric. This is so pretty. You are doing a whip stitch and a good one I must say!
You are so smart and I enjoy your feel good feelings when you finish a project. Youre smart for being so young. Keep it up.
very nice! You inspire me!
I really like the video ¡😻😻😻👏👏👏👏👍🤩
Hello! This is a lovely video. I'm wanting to embark on doing some whole cloth quilts/blankets and this is quite iinspiring. BTW...the stitch you're doing on the binding is called a "whip stitch' - next to a running stitch, it's one of the fastest ways to secure binding.
I love you😊😊😊
From made of cotton wool? I wonder if it's comfortable to sleep on it? I love soft mattresses. This one looks odd. I think it should be very comfortable.

I been looking everywhere on youtube for ideas on making my own daybed. Im glad i watched your channel. Did a company custom make the sheets? If u don't mind me asking how much they did charge u? Please help. Thank u. Amazing job. Btw i like your voice. Calm and easy to understand
How firm is it?
Hi! It starts out medium firm to soft and then as the wool compresses over time it becomes more firm.
They say when the student is ready the teacher will appear. This seems like the perfect solution for me. Thank you so much for sharing!
Me too. So grateful she uploaded this.
Hello, you are amazing! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video! After a years of use, would you share how you feel? The wool should no longer be so fluffy and the mattress itself should be firmer. Are you still comfortable? I also had one done a year and a half ago, but it seems to have gotten stiffer and my shoulders hurt. I will be glad if you share how it is with you?
Thank you! So it has gotten more firm. A few months ago I added a latex mattress topper so now the firmness is more medium.
By the way, I want to share what I did to solve this problem. (here too) I love the feel of the wool so much already and didn't want to replace the wool mattress but I don't have time to redo it (I made mine myself too) and I made 2 for my cousin too. She told me that she noticed that the mattress that is surrounded on all sides with boards does not sag and seems to be more soft than the one that is not surrounded. So I bought boards and I renovated my bed, now the mattress is surrounded on each side and it really became rom-soft. I don't have shoulder problem anymore. Maybe this type of mattress should have lateral support so that they don't destruct and stay more shaped and, accordingly, softer.

Thank you! With these particular mattresses, they are still not too firm because they aren’t used as much. For the mattress I sleep on, I agree that it became a bit too firm so I’ve put an organic latex mattress topper on it and now it’s perfect!
Thank you so much for the answer. By the way, I want to share what I did to solve this problem. I love the feel of the wool so much already and didn't want to replace the wool mattress but I don't have time to redo it (I made mine myself too) and I made 3 for my cousin too. She has noticed that the mattress that is surrounded on all sides with boards does not deform (split) and seems to be softer than the one that is not surrounded. So I bought some boards and upgraded my bed, now the mattress is surrounded on each side and it has really become softer. I don't have shoulder problem anymore. Maybe this type of mattress should have lateral support so that they don't destruct and stay more shaped and, accordingly, softer. Or it just happened that way for me, I still decided to share my experience ❤️
@@velizaraiv3251 I wouldn’t have thought of that! Thanks for sharing!
I made a mattress out of wool from my sheep a few years ago. I used atleast 6 huge fleeces from my down wool breeds. My mattress was very very tall and fluffy. Yes mine has compacted alot but is still several inches thick. I use it in top of a camping cot. This resulted in more compacting in the center. I believe if it was used on a floor or plywood base, it would be compacted more evenly. However...I still love it. It is not even a box/ tufted style. My mattress actually reminds me of a basic black body bag. I'm making two more to fit a free futon frame I acquired. I cant wait! It's alot of work. Besides taking care of sheep ,washing wool takes alot of time and it does smell . That doesn't bother me, but my husband can't stand it. The finished clean wool once ir is totally dry, just has a very clean scent. I love it!
@@velizaraiv3251 It’s about a year later, how is your mattress doing? Does it continue to be soft? I would love to make a wool mattress but hate to go to all this trouble and expense only to have to put a foam pad over my wool mattress, as this intrepid young lady has done.😢
I'm from India.and I'm also mek a cotton mattress..with a good qwality ...I mek two type of mattress..simpal ....and box mattress

That was so dope! U just opened up my mind to new things. I am now going to make my own mattress
I've been wanting a Home of Wool mattress for 2 years. Next March the bonus check will pay for a custom split one I'll share with hubby and baby. A few interviews Rosica gave on talk shows got me to your videos. Thank you for sharing the making process. One step they did after stuffing was beating the wool with a flat stick. Did the cost seem cheaper when making it yourself? Seems like it wouldn't be by much with the wool fill being a separate cost.
So I made a toddler mattress three years ago by hand, like cut the fabric, stitched it, filled them etc. It was quite a lot of work! I did that one just as a test before I did my queen size one. I ended up finding this place called Cotton cloud in Portland or. They sold my queen for $450 and it's firm but very comfortable. It's not "organic" but the wool comes from sheep who are pastured and the grass isn't sprayed. Their food is non GMO but since they're pastured, they eat mostly grass. The cotton exterior is cotton that isn't certified organic but they don't spray. It's a nice, small quality lace and I hadn't found it cheaper. It was harder than I thought so just putting it out there! ❤
Thank you, you have inspired me. I'm not in the USA but I can sew so Im going to make the whoe thing!!! big project.
Hi, I love this video and your content! I have a question, so in step 3 when you cut the batting and the top two inches shorter than the backing what do you do when you run into your running stitches? Do you just cut over them? Or did you make sure your running stitches didn’t go all the way to the edges for this part? I’ve only dabbled in embroidery so I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to sewing but I’d love for this to be my first project!
Good question! I don’t remember exactly what I did but I’m thinking my running stitches didn’t go to the edge so I wasn’t cutting where they were secured. Good luck!
Oh I love the idea of hanging those mirrors on their sides! You definitely needed that Brooklyn tray😁. Have you been to any of the NYC flea markets? They have closed so many during the years so I am unsure if they are worth a trip on the LIRR.
I can't throw out Altoids tins. I have a bunch saved to repurpose.
I'm also a lover of little containers!
New subscriber trying not to binge watch all your videos at once. I love the artwork and music as well as your content. Definitely wonderful to watch before 😴 sleeping. I love linen in the summer. So comfortable.
