The art design was not a bad thing, I actually liked it more! it just felt like the animation went shit for some few frames

I think the main problem is hair like round hairlines and very stiff hair.I also feel like it might have not got as much time as it deserved like a week more of work could of added all the flares we needed.Definitely more in line with the manga though

Im gona be honest i just started season 4 and it really suprised me... i started to hate the anime bc of simply how boring it got. I slowly got more distracted and just disliked the characters-they looked plain. Deffo not fun

hear me out i have no problem with haikyuu being simplefied in the disign . I just really miss the sound of everything and those epic shots ! Like i really loved when the ball went swush through the air and the epic seence like oikawas epic serve . That said i would love a combination like the simplefied disign for the sanaty of the team but still the sound of the ball and epic shots for us to keep the anime as a ledgend ! I live the anime no matter what though !

Honestly, the newer style makes it harder for me to see what's going on during the matches. Everything is fluid but since everything is so shiny and it feels like a lot of the depth has been lost, it's hard to figure out where to focus right away, and since it's so much more frenetic, some of the shots aren't long enough for me to focus and the play's over before I figure out what's happening. Which does happen when you watch real volleyball, but it's not fun to have to rewind plays multiple times an episode.

After all those years I thought I'd gotten over my dislike of the changes in S4, but I'm watching it all over again and the changes from S3 to S4 have weirded me out again. I still love the series, I just wish the character designs hadn't changed so much.

BUT MY BOY ASAHI ALSO.what happened to him I PLAY VOLLEYBALL AND ON A UNRELATED NOTE ALOTOF THE RALLYS WOULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER POINT TO THE OTHER TEAM BC OF 4 touches

They ruin season 4 , frames in season 4 ep 15 are so bad that I'm almost about to cry, the season 4 looks so inconsistent compared to the initial 3 seasons it's almost a shame.

Asahi's hair line, Kagiama's cold look, Hinata's fluffy hair, Tanaka's perfect head, are all completely gone. Not to mention their eyes.😭 It doesn't necessarily look bad but some shots are literally too bad, and the overall doesn't live up to our high expectations. I really miss the old style and wish they would do it again. That being said, I do understand the reasons now and don't blame the producers as much, they were going through hard times. And I most certainly hope the last movie will be made in a better quality.❤ Thanks for the awesome video.

The problem with the season 4 animation is that there’s less detail and the animation overall just looks wonky. Like I love the art style, as someone who read the entire manga from beginning to its final chapter, the new art style is something I really loved. The characters look a lot more full and finalized. If we had that art style with the animation level that we got for the first three seasons, it would’ve been amazing. There’s so many shots in season 4 that look so lazily done.

Season 4 was my favorite esp the ball boy arc. Animation did not bother me as I had scene its peak during games with Oikawa.

akshually, the anime has always been very faithful to the manga’s art style. the first 3 seasons’ art style resembles furudate’s earlier art style, and season 4 follows his current art style. it’s just the animation style that’s changed. the ping pong animator definitely worked on this, or someone that’s inspired by either that or devilman crybaby, i think i just wanted to say that :)

dude ik im late but as a girl watching this everyone being ugly makes so much of the girl haikyuu watchers just drop it cus its so ugly. the faces arent as memorable and its not cus of a sudden change if the show started like this the show wouldnt have blown up esp in the us and on like tiktok like that in 2020 2021. thats not it either its not just that everyones ugly its that everyones faces used to have a personality to it (eyes face shape theyr vibe n characteristics) like everyone had their own thing now i cant tell or recognize anyone cus they all look the same. if the studio coudlnt handle the checks of the animators or anything due to the pandemic could they have not just delayed the animation like dude who u rushing for def not ur money cus didnt the show already make like millions of dollars and from the manga too nobody asked them to rush like whyd they have to go n get greedy?? nobody wouldve cared if they just spent a lil more time into it cus someone mentioned that it takes like 280,000 pages or smth for 1 of the old episodes😔😭 again didnt haikyuu blow up hella during those times they prolly most def had the money to pay the ppl animating the old detailed style but nah they jus wanted to be cheap and fast and greedy like wtf i actually cant stand it cs now hinata is looking like a whole macho man sum shi when like just a min ago after beating shiritorizowa he was tiny n had a normal build which is like realistic like he wasnt seriously playing volleyball with a team n wtv for that long like dude and PLUS BRU WASNT THE OLD ANIMATION ALREADY SORT OF LIKE HOW THE MANGA WAS IN THE BEGINNING?? At first I hated the new style of Haikyuu. I wasn't happy to see them looking cutier and that the animation is generally more flexible.. i don't really know how to describe it, but when anyone hit the ball their hand make a move like it's made out of gum. Looks really unnatural, but now i kinda like it

I watched haikyuu like a year ago up to the end of karasuno vs shiratorizawa and I rewatched the whole show this year and I didn’t even realize the animation difference

and here i am not giving a fuck on animation changes as long as it wont change the story drasticly LOL

i might prefer the original style but the animation is still really good in to the top

I personally watched because the story was beautifully presented through cinematic, tension-inducing shots, which the fourth season drastically lacked. Every time the scene went into a super intense shot, I was just so distracted by how funky the characters looked or how they didn't even bother to color any dimension into the anatomy, just lines? for muscles. If the first three seasons felt like a perfectly ambient stage, the fourth season felt like a draft half done. No dramatic lighting effects, just like, crappy multicolor backdrops? I was so disappointed :( Even Hinata's fluffy hair looks atrocious. I don't really care if the fourth season is more similar to the manga's art style, I just think the fourth season looks way more half-assed. I really hope they pay those workers their due and give them their rest. I don't give a crap how long the next season takes, I just want the Haikyuu from the first three seasons back.

i feel like I'm in the minority for mostly preferring the new art style-- it reflects the current manga style much more, and while i don't love some character changes (kageyama and hinata look more cartoony, asahi's ridiculous hair) i think the animation for the most part became even more stylistic and dramatic. the camera angles and perspective feel extremely dramatic, and i think they use stops in a much more dramatic and effective manner (see: the final block against inarizaki). yes, it's less fluid, but i think that really elevates the action edit: while i do miss the more detailed and dramatic lighting of previous seasons, the overly bright and flat lighting here strikes me as a stylistic choice-- they're in the national gymnasium, cameras are everywhere, everything is bright, shiny and overwhelming-- i really enjoy the shift. that's not to say the show's lighting doesn't get dramatic either-- see hinata biking home or having a meltdown in the supply room.

I thought To The Top was a prequel at first cause I thought they all looked like younger kids.

I love haikyuu season 4 animation still. The scenes where they make epic plays, like hoshiumi or tanaka’s cross spike r absolutely amazing.

I definitely prefer the older style but the new one is ok, the one character who i cannot get used to in the new style though is yamaguchi. he just looks weird

There's something about the way this new artstyle depicts Hinata's wide eyed expressions that I just love. From him about to figure out his new jump before Dadchi interrupted him, to his shaky smile while staring at his red forearms as he gets one level deeper into his love for volleyball...I just don't feel like the more realistic artstyle would have nailed these manic expressions.

"I hope Haikyuu will get to see a complete adaptation, to the very end" Yeah, that aged well didnt it. Two movies left to adapt 200 chapters.

They really did the inarizaki team dirty. Honestly just watch on the net it's there. Their proportions are out of whack

the general change was no issue but losing those absurdly impactful shots of the ball was completely stupid while I still enjoyed the season I never once felt physically heated up, which was something all the previous seasons did for me I had never felt like that from any piece of media before

Heres the thing its not better than x y animation but those faces are used for comedic effect or inbtween frames

tl;dr the (maybe) irrefutable incompetence: Hinata's perceived age. how old is he suppose to be? I'm 40 and I look younger than him, not being hyperbolic. making him more youthful is much more cost effective, AND aesthetically pleasant by magnitudes. the lines around his eyes are extra work. not having them is both efficient and pleasing. . I'm an irl woman of 40. while I do look much younger than my age (early to mid 30s), Hinata looks older than me. I am not exaggerating. he looks like an aged child. the only thing the line scratches under and around his eyes do is to exponentially age him. there's literally and absolutely no other reason to have these lines. it adds nothing to the experience of the anime. fun practice: erase them and be wowed by Hinata's age transformation. if SamDoesArt were to comment on the art quality, he'd red card them for their excessive line work and "chicken scratches". Ethan Baker would just straight up murder them with his knife and unlit cigarette. ps. thank you for including the names of the creators and crew. tho Japanese is pretty phonetic and the vowels are depicted by the simplified dominant letter for a given vowel, some of their names have silent consonants that, more often than not, make virtually one sound. like "T" and "S" in "Tsukishima". having the spelling helps following up with the information you gave.
