SABINA WURMBRAND Introduction and Excerpts from "The Pastor's Wife" video 1/4
I begin reading the text at 6:18. If you like the video. please click on the 'like' or 'subscribe'. I keep forgetting to ask! These little favors will help the video get more broadly circulated.
If you want to hear Sabina and Richard in person, there are many videos of them available here on TH-cam. You will find many more of Richard than of Sabina!
Here is the link to my Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand playlist, where I have posted a few of my own favorites. You may have to cut and paste.

Here is the best one I have found of Sabina speaking in English. Somehow this one was not savable to the playlist.

And here, I read from Richard's book, "In God's Underground". This is the first of five videos; the rest can be found at the Wurmbrand playlist.

Again lovely! Thank you for your service to the Lord in reading these. I do not recall you introducing yourself before. It is appreciated. A favorite: 20:30 . . . Our Lord wills that the soul should be truly turned to look upon him and all his works in generally . . . (echoing a favorite theme of mine, and C. H. Spurgeon's -the value of Looking.) I am not entirely sure this dear sister has it right at 23:54 "But in God there is no anger, as I see it," especially in light of the many Bible references to the Lord's anger, wrath, judgment, etc. Of course she is but a fellow servant, far more dedicated than I, and if this is her only error, very well - she would be among the greatest ever to live, save Jesus.
Thank you, friend, for listening so well, and for your generous insights!
Again, a beautiful word from Fenelon, through you. Thank you. A few of my favorites: 1:13 The little faults become great and monstrous in our eyes as the pure light of God increases in us. 3:36 We never watch over ourselves so well as when we walk with God present before our eyes as God commanded Abraham. 6:50 The practice of the presence of God is the supreme remedy. It sustains. It comforts. It calms. 7:31 Everything is temptation on earth: crosses tempt us by irritating our pride, and prosperity by soothing it.
How sweetly he writes, this Fenelon. Thank you for reading him this way. This is one very good reason for reading the great believers of other ages - because nobody (or vanishingly few), write on topics like this. Death of self, mortifying the flesh, things like that. Wow how we need these topics today.
Yes, thank you. Dallas Willard does address these things thoroughly and very carefully. With true sweetness and hope, as Fenelon does.
@@listeningtogreatchristians2090 Absolutely right, thank you. Amendment accepted. I'll throw in John Eldredge too, at least in Walking with God and Beautiful Outlaw - and there's a few for the 'vanishingly few'! Seriously, thank you for the service you are doing for the Lord and his people.
@@yishmaryah You are welcome!! You are a dear.
How lovely. I have collected a few of the high points with their times. Forgive me if the punctuation is amiss. - 1:52 - God does not cease speaking, but the noise of the creatures without and of our passions within deafens us and stops our hearing. - 2:11 - We must bend the ear, because it is a gentle and delicate voice only heard by those who no longer hear anything else. - 2:21 - O how rare it is that the soul is sufficiently still to let God speak! - 6:31 - [W]e must recognize that God speaks constantly within us. - 8:32 - It is only children with whom thou art familiar without reserve. - 10:10 - O but a soul given up to grace with no turning back to self, not counting itself for anything and walking without measure in a mind of pure love, which is the perfect guide, experiences things which the wise can never experience or understand. - 11:08 - We have lost everything. We have lost ourself. There is something which says within us, as the spouse of the song, let me hear thy voice, that it may sound in my ears. Oh how sweet it is, that voice. It makes my bowels tremble. Speak, O my spouse, and may nothing but thee dare to speak. Hush, my soul. O love: speak on.
Thank you! And blessings on you again.
Wonderful intro. Thank you. May I throw in something I encountered recently? It sheds such a lovely light on this amazing man - The King of France, along with Fenelon's former friend Bossuet, pressured the Pope for many years to censure Fenelon, which he finally did on March 12, 1699. In a phrase which gained currency soon thereafter, the Pope said that 'Fenelon was in fault for too great love of God; and his enemies equally in fault for too little love of their neighbor'. His friends took it as a vindication of sorts; his enemies were mortified!
@@yishmaryah Oh, that’s marvelous! Thank you, thank you.
@@listeningtogreatchristians2090 You are so very welcome. It's my delight, really, especially for such a lovely man as François de Salignac de La Mothe Fénelon (have you noticed the interesting similarity with this other lovely one of the Lord - Jeanne Marie Bouviéres de la Mothe Guyon (though so many spell it 'de la Motte')?

Happy New Year, sister. I am still listening to the Introduction you did on Dallas Willard. Just really loving the things you're sharing on him in that. The issues that he faced with kind of finding philosophy as a good thing in approving the use of thought and reason, and these not against faith, but then the other issue he faced within philosophy. Anywho, just pondering on it and excited to see yet another video you've shared.
Wonderful delivery and information about a very important life. Thank you. I learned a lot.
Here is a man who had a very deep understanding of the scripture.

Thank you! I loved hearing more about Dallas’ life
Wow, thank you so much for doing this! You have such a lovely, pleasant voice, perfect for reading aloud. ❤
DW writings and talks have contributed greatly to my understanding and life. I’ve also read Moon’s biography of DW. I found it easy and helpful to read. It’s helpful to know more of the man behind the thoughts, since DW so infrequently tells stories about himself. Thanks for anything you do to enable and inspire to use DW as an on-ramp to grasping the Christian life with our whole mind, heart, and body.
Loving what he’s writing. I’ve bought the book. This really echos back to me a lot of what the Lord has been showing me, and is quite affirming. Like what he says about still needing to care about what people think - yes! I’ve seen this sort of sinful attitude a lot, thinking that living by what God thinks means contempt upon what people think. Amen!! Blessings to you this Sunday, sister ❤
@@melblack7412 thank you, dear one. DW is such a gift to us.

What does he mean by recollection exactly?
He is not explicit about this, is he? What I presume is meant by 'recollection' is what is on the far end of mortification: our bringing all the impulses, feelings before God and 'recollecting' the fact of His grace. Listening for, hoping expectantly for, the balance that Grace imparts.
In my version of The Complete Fenelon, the translator has a little section to give context for what certain words mean when Fenelon uses them. For recollection, they put: the tranquility of mind that comes from quiet religious contemplation.
@@listeningtogreatchristians2090 Yeah, he mentions it a lot but never specifically what it is. Thank you :)

"Christian Perfection: Devotional Reflections on the Christian life by a seventh-century mystic", published by Bethany House in 1975. The book out of print now, but surely this sermon is available in many of the newer and more complete presentations of his work.
@@amynatzke1050 Sounds like a good book, shame it's out of print. I'll hope to find it in his complete works :)
Was the church at this time rejecting the truth of the Holy Spirit within?
Surely along doctrinal lines, they would not have rejected it. But the subject of the Holy Spirit is an ever-elusive even among those who profess to believe in Him. God was continually, faithfully revealing Himself to those who sought Him within the church. You may also appreciate the writings of Francis de Sale and Madam Chantal.
@@listeningtogreatchristians2090 Yes, it is often the case people say they acknowledge things but they deny it in their real lives. It's really interesting to hear the writings of others during this time, esp people near to Madame Guyon. Really is wonderful to see those who sincerely sought God and had real faith in Him. Thank you for the tip! I'll look into these.

Anyone who wants to live their entire life in a tiny cell has got to be "odd" This kind of lifestyle would drive most people crazy. Maybe her "visions" were hysterical / psychotic delusions.
Many of us who love Christ are odd…. Odd in our initial need, perhaps, and then odd as our attraction to him compels us toward a kind of life that the rest of the world has a hard time understanding. But I assure you, by being ‘nutty’, we do not miss out on what God most wants to give us. (What a relief!)
