    16:21 it just feels so refreshing to see free pattern with a large size range. Especially with sizes like xxs and xs, which you don’t tend to see much anymore! ❤

    I've used my umbrella winder for a long time and I haven't had any issues with the yarn falling off or anything like that but maybe it depends on the type of yarn you use? I don't know if a more expensive yarn winder is worth the money but to each their own!

    • @TheHarryKnit
      @TheHarryKnit 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What’s your umbrella winder made out of? Mine was plastic and I felt like the yarn kept slipping out and the metal grip connecting to the table always came loose 🤔 getting one that was wood and grounded helped alleviate that!

      @@TheHarryKnit Hi! I believe mine is the same as yours, plastic and metal. The grip in mine is great, never had any issues... it's a no-brand very cheap one I bought online

    My Chiaogoo stainless/Seeknit needle sets, Chiaogoo Shorties set, lightbulb stitch markers, measuring tape, rubber cord to hold stitches, crochet hook, row counter nail file. I also use a free version of Knitting Companion app. If you're going to replace your ball winder, I would recommend the Stanwood Needlecraft Large Metal winder. I have the smaller version which is great, but I wish I had purchased the larger one.

    Must haves include a tape measure, a crochet needle for dropped stiches and also the knit pro interchangeable set! My partner gifted it to me as a confident beginner. I wished for it knowing it would make sticking to knitting as a hobby easier cause it makes the whole experience better. I used to use old thrifted metal needles (still use them occasionally) but never had the right cord length for anything I wanted to do which is annoying af

    Unpopular opinion: islamophobia is the only reasonable response to Islam. No other religion has been known to form rape gangs. A heat map of Islam lines up almost perfectly with a heat map of domestic violence. Islam is the reason why many people today are arguing in favor of child marriage. Islam is inherently misogynistic, violent and evil. The good thing is that most Muslims don’t actually know all that much about Islam. I don’t think that Muslims are inherently more evil than other people or that we should hate them. I think that Muslims belong to an evil religion and that the actual religion aught to be disproven and mocked ceaselessly until it no longer remains, especially since it is a pro-deceit religion ( so the only way to stop it is to make people want to stop believing in it). Muslims are taught to not care about the truth (they literally call their god “the best of deceivers”).

    Perhaps you didn’t see, Espace Tricot is now charging for their patterns. If you already have it in your library, you still own it. But on Ravelry if you only favorited it and didn’t add it to your library before they changed their policy (I THINK it was spring 2024), you need to buy the pattern now

    Watching late at night while knitting a cowl with earbuds as hubby is asleep beside me, and our three children are fast asleep. 25:00 I wanted to jump on here as a woman with Prussian Mennonite heritage. I have a traditional Kokum that my mother gifted me as I am also Saskatchewan First Nations. Here in the US I can't actually wear it in the traditional manner without fearing that I will look Islamic. I was wearing it in the mall recently and I was noticing all the Muslim head coverings, and I realized that I can't wear it without being mistaken as one of them. I pulled the scarf down from my head and wore it around my neck instead. That feeling of fear and being saddened that I can't wear my culture (being both Prussian and Saskatchewan First Nations) is something that will always stick with me. It's like one religion has claimed an appearance and I can't wear what is from my culture without fear of accusations of cultural-appropriation. Just my thoughts as a woman with Prussian Mennonite/Saskatchewan First Nations ancestry.

    I just bought a yarn caddy this past weekend! I only bought it because the yarn i am using is outside pull by default and i was traveling so it was actually helpful to have at the airport. I probably won’t use it much in the future because i far prefer inside pull but i think it could be useful on occasion.

    I'd say stitch markers and progress keepers in general. On my first few projects I just used bits of scrap yarn, then I thought I now needed real stitch markers. But I often find them too thick for delicate projects, sitting weirdly between stitches, heavy on the fabric or awkward to pass over. So I went back to scrap yarn 😅

    I had my dad make me a knitting caddy thing out of wood (because I could not justify the expense of them). I use a purse table hanger to hang it from tables when I take my knitting places (especially work). I have three purse/bag hooks that I have in different purses/backpacks.

    I couldn't knit without my Twice Sheared row counters. They are a game changer. I don't like to have to touch a button on my kindle to advance each row. Rather just use a Twice Sheared row counter as my BOR stitch marker. Agree don't need expensive leather project bags. Cloth ones with pockets are just fine. I've made my own and bought quilted totes off Amazon. I prefer zippered bags to drawstring. I got my first interchangeable set at Hobby Lobby for $20 and I still use them - acrylic tips. I love my colorful rings that I use at stitch markers that I bought on Amazon. I also make my own "fancy" stitch markers by buying charms at Hobby Lobby and Micheals. I love my blocking mats. I use children's play mats (2'x2').

    Where yarn dispensers come in handy is when you are working with cotton/ linen/ bamboo blends where twist matters and you have a wearable with an intricate pattern going on.

  • @KomekoroKoa

    I’m so torn on blocking mats - all the kid ones I find aren’t thick enough. I’m afraid I’m going to spear my dining room table or rented apartment hardwood floors with the blocking pin sets I have. I do agree with your assessment of knitting needle sets. I absolutely love my chiagoo set that I have, but picking up cords and tips as you need them is a much more cost effective way. And that way if you find out you only really use certain needle sizes, you aren’t wasting money on the sizes you don’t need, and can use that money for duplicates and more cords (I swear I need about as twice as many cords as I currently have. But also, I have way too many wips 😅) I’d love to see your knitting essentials list!

    Oh, I can't live without my row counters. They help me keep track of where I'm at in charts, stitch counts for a really long cast on, the number of rounds/rows before increasing/decreasing, and so many other things I'm forgetting right now. I love the ones from cocoknits that you can lock when they're tossed in your knitting bag so they don't accidentally add a row.

  • @shellyhughes7270
    @shellyhughes7270 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I love the blocking mats with the 1 inch grids because it helps me to block to specific measurement and to have nice straight edges. However, I wonder if there may be a way to just use a ruler and make your own grid lines on the cheaper foam mats. My fear would be if you used a marker, you’d want to make sure it wouldn’t bleed onto your wet knits that you pin down over it.

    I agree with pretty much everything you said. I started using a row counter that doubles as my BOR marker, but it’s usually just for the sleeve decreases. Then I don’t have to keep track with paper and pencil. I don’t own blocking mats, never have, and probably never will. I just lay my sweater on the floor or my bed to dry. Progress keepers are pretty, but usually heavy. I have made my own beaded stitch markers/progress keepers and they are the ones I grab, if I even think about it.

    First time watching your videos and I really liked it. I plan on watching more content. Fun fact: Skeins are normally ready to use yarn, Balls are (mostly) wound up balls of yarn but things like mohair also come in little balls, cakes are “balls” that a wound in a way that you can see the color changing aspect or are wound up yarn using a cake winder and Hanks are normally hand dyed yard that you have to untwist and either wind it into a ball and cake it up with a yarn swift and cake winder.

    I agree with most of what you said, however, I think I disagree on the "selling a finished piece from a pattern you bought" stance. Maybe I'm not exactly understanding what the issue is, but I don't see a problem with that at all...? 🤷‍♀ Unless the pattern-maker has stated that pieces made from their pattern are for personal use only and not to be sold, I'm really not seeing why that would be unethical? I mean, I do think that if you sold a finished piece made from a pattern you bought, you should list where or from whom you bought the pattern... but patterns, imo, are tools. I think the person selling the finished piece is pricing it to cover their supplies (including the pattern), their time, and how much they think it is worth. Like I said, I think it should be stated that it's made from a pattern, but yeah, I'm not seeing why that's "wrong". I also didn't realize there was a difference in view on this between knitters and crocheters. I knit, sew, and embroider... but I don't crochet. I don't sell my knit items (I'm a slower knitter and really just make a couple pieces a year lol), but I sometimes sell things I've sewn (which often include machine embroidered designs), and the embroidered designs are usually design patterns I've bought. I've never heard anyone say this was unethical. But, maybe I'm not fully comprehending the issue. 😅

    I’ve test knitted in the past, and I don’t mind test knitting for free if I sign up for it, but I’ve encountered so many rude designers who clearly just want free labor and advertising from test knitters, not actual input. (If a designer demands a project page or post to your social media in return for being a test knitter, beware! They’re just using you as advertising! They’re so egotistical that they think giving you a $5 pattern for free is worth you buying the yarn, doing the labor, doing the tech editing, and THEN ALSO photography and forever advertising on your own SNS? Oh get off your high horse!) I will give my honest opinion on the pattern to, in my mind, help improve their pattern, and the designers get so offended. They only want positive feedback and a few times I’ve been retaliated against or denied promised payments or “gifts” in return for test knitting because the designers didn’t like what I had to say.

    Salam Alaikum sister! As a hijabi, your take on the balaclava was so interesting to me and really resonated. I have been followed, stared at, and had people come up and comment in rude ways because of my hijab. Seeing people wear basically the same thing and NOT have that happen is always kind of a wistful moment for me. Like "wow I wish I could cover and not be yelled at." Or even when modest fashion became a trend. I always thought "why can you wear long dresses with long sleeves and call yourself cottage core and cute, but when I do it, I'm oppressed?" Lots to think about! Thank you for the video, it was wonderful!

    I do kinda feel that the new patterns shown in Ravelry often feel like the same thing over and over again. But I have no problem using the Advance Search criteria to find patterns I like. I do tend to get most of my ideas from podcasts rather than searches. Totally agree that popular designers and popular patterns mean something is likely right about them. I know I can trust the instructions of certain popular designers where I've had to try to figure out what the designer was wanting me to do on more unknown designers. I would offer to pay for the pattern if I didn't finish the test knit since I didn't complete my part of the deal. Course this might depend on how well the pattern was written in the first place. I ran into my first experience with co-knitters sharing patterns. I was surprised as money is not an issue for these women. They viewed it has sharing a book they had purchased. I don't knit any shared pattern. I purchase the pattern via Ravelry if I decide to knit it.
