The other thing that might help the way the armpit fits is making the armscye (arm hole) a little shorter. With the amount of ease patterns like the Ranunculus typically have, the instructions generally have a larger armscye diameter, which adds bulk and causes those wrinkles. To fix this, I would reconnect the split for the armscye just a few rows earlier, and maybe cast on a few less stitches for the armpit area. Then increase as needed for the sleeve to fit with the ease you want. Your Ranunculus is beautiful! Between this video and the Chloe Knits video, and some lace weight yarn burning a hole in my stash , I think I’m going to make one too!

I wear coverings too. When I know I am going to be in an area that might not be safe, I switch to a velvet headband (for slippage), a slouching hat that will hold all of my hair and a fashion scarf to cover my neck. This way I can blend in more and still follow my beliefs. Stay safe out there and when necessary try for the incognito approach.

Try the colorwork inside out and see if tjat helps tension. KnittyMelissa on youtube was one of few videos i liked on watching on inside colorwork. That way float travel a bit more. Very cute sunflowers either way. I also really like the vest.

As a fellow author and crafter I feel all of this. I love my Ranunculus but haven't made a second yet. Edit to add: I've making a lot of colorwork socks lately as well. I just spread out the stitches as far as they will go and I never have an issue with my floats being to tight. I know some people go up a needle size for the colorwork or turn it inside out to knit the colorwork (maybe the floats being on the outside helps?). I've never tried either of those methods but those are the ones I've heard of people doing.

    • @TheHarryKnit

I really appreciate your comments regarding balaclavas and the nuanced level of comfort or discomfort relative to the wearer. I don't think people with a certain appearance should have to feel weird about wearing their scarf. I don't think others with a different appearance should feel casual about wearing something that can get other people harassed, hurt and even killed. I think respect is key here. If you are not Muslim and you want to wear one, you better be well-informed on the origins and an advocate for others' rights to also wear it, regardless of their reason or skin tone. Or else you're just another privileged person doing what ever you want without regard how if affects others. And that is crap. The end. lol

This is exactly what I need for my first sweater I ever made. Now I just have to get it back from the person I gifted it to, who also doesn’t use it. I bound off the neckline way too tight (I was new and didn’t realize the huge variety of bind offs available to me). So I feel hopeful and able to make this happen! Thanks for your video!

i mostly crochet but i completely agree with the price of patterns. a majority of pattern makers are from first world countries while i live in a third world one... theyre usually more expensive than the price of yarn i'd need to buy and could easily be a few days worth of meals where i live. another hot take for me is i kind of dislike creators who prohibit others from copying their work for personal use. as you said it's also an art form so i dont get how different it is from taking inspiration and reverse engineering it according to your knowledge of the craft. as long as it's not being commercially produced i see no problem. there are really just people who cannot afford to purchase patterns because of conversion rates...

I have frogged a completed project because it didn't work out. Or sometimes i give them away. There is nothing wrong with that. Most people cringe at the thought but it just means that you make into something you love and will use. I'm staring at sweater I made probably 10 years ago that is my frog pile. I love the yarn but it's too itchy for a next to skin sweater. I will add other yarn and make a cardigan out it.

I'm sorry, but balaklavas are not comparable to hijabs. It is worn outside as a protective outer layer, and most children use it in kindergarden during winter to protect them from the freezing cold during the outdoors-times. In Norway, children and adults are outside even when it is freezing and snowing. Schools have recess outside as well as outdoors-school at least once per week. Adults also use them now because they protect even more than hats, and leave no room between the head and the neck as scarves/hats often do. We take them off when we go inside. It is a practical, protectional piece. As for selling your knitted and crocheted items, it is very normal here to sell your knitted things in markets, online or to colleagues, family etc... I would say knitting has a very strong tradition here; more so than crochet, and knitting for other people has always been normal.
