Fighting Games vs Filmmaking
Adapting fighting games into movies and TV can be a tricky balance. Too much fan service alienates new viewers, while oversimplification risks losing the core audience. With examples like Mortal Kombat proving it can be done right, and upcoming adaptations like Guilty Gear Dual Rulers sparking debate, it’s clear that storytelling in this space demands a nuanced approach. Yeah his changes seemed a bit skewed.
If you let her get wings of light going, you deserve to lose the round. It takes ten seconds of not getting hit, teaching a throw, or interacting with your opponent almost at all. IN GUILTY GEAR STRIVE! if you get stun dippered or axl 5p'd or shot by HC wings are gone. Wings are a bad move, and if you lose to them, you let it happen.
If you get hit, you get hit. But never doubt the lab monsters in figuring out a way to make it practically guaranteed.

Have the exact same feeling with MVCI project. It's really cool to see but I'm not sure what the long-term goal is especially for how much effort is being put into it and if it'll foster a community again. I'd play Jedah and Venom again for a day or so though lol
The effort they are putting in is quite impressive, but it's hard to imagine the game finding a following in the same way UMVC3 has.

Honestly, not sure which one is the worst : MK1 with all its issues, or Strive that can't code WiFi icons / a proper ranked system without connection errors all day / frame data in training mode upon reaching its 4th season . . .

Not "this character is dumb" for Millia. From what I can tell, Millia can normal-cancel her air dashes and her j.K hitbox may have been increased. I want to see her full changes though 'cause it really took the whole TH-cam council to dissect her gameplay and figure out what exactly changed.

It’s especially weird that people get so mad at “randos” getting upsets when, as online gets better and better, the gap is closing between your top and high level players. Maybe an online grinder can’t afford to travel that much, so when they finally are able to and get seeded low, they’ll naturally upset people. Not saying that’s what happened here, but it’s just a byproduct of online connections getting better.
It is weird as it's nothing new in fighting games. But definitely as online gets better, the gap will close and has over the last 15 years. The normal player level is just evolving.

to me the issue with the whole Sparking Zero debate isn't whether or not it's a fighting game, it's that there is an implicit underlying argument that such games have little depth or competitive value. I think there is an elitism aspect to the discussion on the FGC side where people aren't willing to acknowledge that there can be skill involved in these kinds of games. Things such as plus/minus on block moves and okizeme actually do exist in Sparking Zero. Throws can be used to break someone's defense if they're spamming the games equivalent to SF6's parry. There's high and low blocking and you can mix people up with tricky movement and fakeouts. There are execution heavy true combos not in the sense of motion inputs but in requiring extremely precise timing to pull off. That said, the developers are explicitly not trying to make a balanced competitive game either but that doesn't exclude high level play and metas from evolving. You guys should check out Diaphone's recent videos where he tried to get good at Sparking Zero and went from losing to square mashing super spammers to reaching top 100 on the leaderboard. His initial frustration reminded me a lot of how new players to traditional fighters will lose to fireball spam and think it's an unbeatable strategy. I think it's ok for the fighting game umbrella to expand a bit. If the FGC was more welcoming to these communities maybe we could grow more as I'm sure tons of those players could be easily sold on traditional fighters with the right introduction. And who knows, with enough interest even casually from the FGC maybe someone will try to make an arena fighter that truly does incorporate familiar fighting game mechanics at a deep, competitive level. It could be cool for something groundbreaking like that which breaks away from the rigid structure of traditional FG game design while retaining the essence of what we love about them. Or are we just gonna have 2 dudes facing each other on a horizontal stage with walls until the end of time? Anyways, would love to hear your guy's thoughts if you touch on this subject again.
You definitely hit a key-point that it’s not so much about whether it qualifies as a fighting game, but rather the deeper perception within the FGC that these types of games lack depth. That can prevent people from recognizing the skill and strategy involved in these games. As the community evolves the conversation is going to be more fleshed out as mechanics even start jumping between sub-genres of games. Thanks for the listen and the comment!

The thing with collabs is that when they hit they truly hit and are hype af but when they miss they miss HARD. And even hype collabs depend on how well they're handled.

I find games which require frame perfect to combo means you have to be really good straight away otherwise you lose, I love Mortal Kombat but if you can't remember pretty much sheet music levels of frame perfect combos you have absolutely no chance online, that's why I like Tekken 8, you can get back into a match pretty easily if you time a punch or grab at the right moment, its the perfect casual to expert game
The execution curve can be pretty steep in one game and light in another. Just gotta find what vibes with you, Tekken is a great choice.
You guys are the reason Mortal Kombat has gone downhill after MKX. Easily satisfied with garbage story telling and mid ass scenes that barely even function to drive the plot. Why even bring in Taven and Daegons guardians? The whole titan BS basically stopped MK ever reaching a true Armageddon. Instead of tons of fighters with decent power being the reason for the realms being unstable, now its one character got lucky and is now the god above gods and they can rewrite the universe into whatever pandering shit story to appease .001 percent of the population. To be fair, though I haven't seen the full video this clip is from, here they're praising the visuals of this specific moment in the DLC, not exactly the writing of the scene itself, nor the rest of the game's storytelling for that matter.

I understand your point 100%, but praising the game for it's visuals doesn't equate to them saying the game and/or it's writing is good. They can give credit where its due and still constructively criticize where it is needed.
Just to add to the point, we praised the visuals. In the rest of the video we talked on how the story wasn't good/lackluster. We're big fans of the lore of MK, more invested in the story than gameplay at times so we understand the frustration.

@@doubletapfgc I think the expansion was a great addition. I think a lot of the hate comes from people who are a bit stagnant with idea of what they believe MK should be. As an old school fan It really was a hell of a ride seeing Tanya in this new light. Also a nice nod to the old timeline where she helped onaga decipher ancient texts and becoming a dragon caller in her Armageddon ending.

@@danielsmith9548 I do understand your frustration with the new timeline and yes I do agree at times its all over the place but they took it in this direction and have committed too it. I do however think there have been many great moments and getting to see characters in different iterations has been fun and interesting (which is why I was praising Tanya getting a nice time to shine) I do miss when Tobias was doing the writing and I think the original timeline was written in a fantastic way. They added so many new characters and versions that it's become so chaotic with where the attention on story is going. Like I said though there has been some great parts though, I loved Tanya's lore in the original timeline but getting to see a different version of her beyond what already is has been interesting and enjoyable. I'm not going to knock the writing completely when there has been many great moments to enjoy. I guess im on both sides of the fence because I would also like to see the original timeline done properly and consistently and really expand upon all the original characters roles in even more fleshed out ways. Obviously without the multiverse / timeline gimmick.
They screwed up Jean-Cluade's face they need to fix it , and the top broadcaster doesn't need to make excuses for the reason they screwed up either it's Jean claude van Damme make it look like him for god's sake , as well I noticed the game developers didn't add his signature 360 flying round house kick , that's JCVD's best move and is what he is known for , patch these screw ups asap please and thank you.

btw burst baiting is a lot more universally accessible than you guys talked about. being able to jump cancel normals vs airborne opponents is actually something that applied to every normal on every character. also if you really wanted to hard call out a burst you could call assist and immediately handshake tag to block the burst.
Yeah definitely applies to every normal for the characters. Definitely because it's early but not having enough burst ready combos feels limiting. The handshake is definitely an option though.
