I unfollowed ALL the travel ‘influencers’ (and why you should too)
Revealing the Dark Truth About Travel Culture 🌍
🔹 What This Video Is About:
Join me as I share why I decided to unfollow all the travel 'influencers.' This isn't about spreading negativity; it's about sharing my personal journey and the realizations I've come across regarding the impacts of travel culture as influenced by social media.
This is my story, my experience, and my reflection on what true happiness and meaningful travel really mean to me.
🔹 Why I Made This Change:
After years of following travel influencers and even starting my journey to become one, I've seen firsthand how social media has shaped unrealistic perceptions of travel.
From luxury demands to the unspoken environmental impacts, I discuss the often-ignored truths of modern travel and its effects on local communities, the environment, and mental health.
🔹 What We'll Chat About:
Challenging Perceptions of Happiness: How my experiences in over 25 countries taught me the realities behind the glorified social media posts.
The Broader Impact: Discussing the strain on mental health, the environmental consequences of luxury travel, and the economic pressures on local cultures.
Mindful vs. Media-Influenced Travel: The contrast between travelers who enrich their experiences and those chasing a replicated, often damaging lifestyle.
🔹 Takeaway:
I urge you to think about how your travel is influenced by social media and invite you to join me in striving for more conscious and respectful travel practices.
Let's discuss how to genuinely benefit the places we visit and make our travel experiences truly enriching for both ourselves and the host communities.
💬 Open Discussion:
I welcome your thoughts and experiences on travel influenced by social media. Let's create a dialogue about making more informed and responsible travel choices together.
👉 Watch, reflect, and maybe you'll find reasons to rethink who you follow and why.

This 5-Minute Morning Stretch Changed My Life
If you're in a relationship, SM tells you that you are a loser for being in one. If you're not, it tells you that you are a loser because you are not. SM will shame you for literally everything!
I’ve been off for several months.
This is great. You are an old soul.
ive been without social media for close to 10 years now...i did isolate for a long time (even though i had a lot of friends/groups beforehand)...the isolation was liberating in a way - lived near a forest/river for years, felt like a monk, i worked a lot, progressed in my career, but now in my early 30s its pretty tough creating new connections, and it does make me feel like i missed out on something / look like an outcast - esp. as i would love to create a family...its also hard to find the same depth in others like i created in myself through all of this
great video bro, thanks for sharing!🙏
17:00 really hit me.
You remind me of Doctor Mike! I’m thinking of quitting FB & IG and just keeping YT. I need time to work on myself without the constant distractions. It really can be a waste of time.
Since I decided to delete facebook, instagram and threads my screen time went down by 56% which is crazy.
Absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for sharing those stats. How do you feel mentally?
I want to delete Instagram , TikTok .., but there’s also a lot of valuable content - like nutrition/health type accounts , mental health accounts , a lot of good information on social media , so is it worth to keep , or best to delete accounts entirely? Can anyone help me out with this, I’m so confused with what to do… also when talking about deleting social media - all platforms other than TH-cam ?
Thank you for your question! Here’s my thoughts on it: Step 1 is awareness, knowing that there’s an unhealthy relationship with it, that’s the hardest part Step 2 is creating a healthy, mindful relationship with social media. Maybe your long term goal is deleting it completely, or you just want to take control over it, and not let it take control over you. Once you understand your goal, you can slowly work towards it. Step 3 I always advocate for mindful consumption. To me, this is what that looks like. You are in control, not the platform. You don’t scroll the for you pages, you look at platforms where you have more control. We don’t need for information, we just need the right information. TikTok for example is designed to keep you doom scrolling and it will never end. TH-cam you can have some more control as you can follow a few creators and ONLY consume their stuff. Instagram as the option to have a section of ‘favourites’ where you only see their content. I’d recommend you start with only consuming 1 platform. TH-cam or Instagram. You don’t scroll the for your page. You only consume the creators that you’re really into and value what they share. Which brings actual value and doesn’t make you feel something negative inside. You put a limit of 10-20 minutes a day. If you are consuming for value and education. Have your journal beside you, when you learn something, write it down. Don’t just consume. Actually right it down and learn it. When we consume mindfully, learn, and adapt into our lives real change can happen. Eventually, when you’ve created a healthy relationship where you aren’t grabbing your phone every minute when you’re bored, then you can decide if you want to keep social media or delete it completely. But no need to make any massive decision right away. A Mindful approach is key. Hope this helps!
@ thank you for the tips! I kind of avoid TH-cam these days cuz I don’t know what to watch .. can you tell me what to watch / not watch on TH-cam so I’m not wasting my time ? Also when u deleted all social media did that include TH-cam ? Thanks!
Great video. Speaks to all of the trending influencer “ideologies” - glorification of digital nomads, quitting 9-5 to start a business. We program ourselves through this overconsumption of trending content, to the point we don’t know where IT ends and WE begin. Good on you for intentionally unfollowing. The great thing about our minds being easily programmed is that they can be easily unprogrammed too 🙂
Yess! I love how you said that “where it ends and we begin” Exactly! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
thank you for this! as a 21 year old who has also adopted the travel lifestyle (will reach my 30th country next year), i agree with everything. i’ve realized that the touristy travel content is so horrible in real life. i speak/learn 5 languages, and i can say the most amazing experiences come from longer term stays where you’re learning the language. it shows people you care about them, you build real connections, and it makes you more excited to see the country and culture. travel influencers are definitely not great and we need to talk about it more
Thank you for being honest and sharing your experience!! I agree 110% with you, the best way to navigate through this is traveling mindfully. We also need to open up more about the impact this is causing. Continue to raise awareness 🙏
Great pov 🎉
Thank you so much for watching! 🙏
Completely agree with this. I’m 2 months into traveling around Asia and see the impact of how social media is affecting how the locals live. I too wanted to become a travel creator for the longest time but the more I travel, I see just how glamourized and unrealistic the content we consume is. The real education and beauty in travel is how you make interact with the culture around you, not just hitting ig spot after ig spot.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on this! It’s been bugging me for a while now and I felt alone with this thought. I’m glad I’m able to connect with like minded people like yourself! You’re competent right, real education comes from being in the present moment, in the culture, off our phones..
can't take you seriously with a mindfulness t shirt on
What would you like the t-shirt to say?
What’s wrong with mindfulness
What is the drink they use to clean the gut called?
Well said. Thank you for opening my eyes! ❤
I’m glad some of it resonated 💙🫂
I’m on a social media break and reflecting on how it’s influenced my life and ways of thinking. Thanks for sharing your story.
My absolutely pleasure, I’m glad you’re reflecting on it. That’s the first and hardest step!
It's not a relationship, it's infatuation. That's why it doesn't work. Everybody's a teacher these days and everybody's willing to learn from TH-cam gurus.
was going to look in the comments for a comment with all the lessons or tips but no one has commented yet
If you click on the video, you’ll see all the little tabs at the bottom, you can just click on each lesson and you’ll fly through the video and get all the lessons quick 🙏
You could watch the video and list the tips for the next person.
not all media are owned by big companies. At least not in all countries. And who, for you, is "they"? I agree that social media can be addictive, but I do not agree that there is a conspiracy going on. For me, it is that companies want us to consume more. And social media companies want us hooked to be able to earn on advertisement. Very simple. But of course: very unethical.
Excellent ❤
Thank you 🙏🫂
I’m have a planned exit. I do have a skincare brand but I can’t take it anymore. As a spiritual & sensitive person, social media just killed my personal identity and increased depression. I feel like a shell of a person having to be a brand for 5 years on SM.
I 1000% understand! We have A LOT in common. This has been my struggle for so long and still dealing with it today. I’d love to talk more about it, if you’d like to reach out on Instagram (mindfulnesskris) I’d love to connect deeper. Maybe have a video chat? I think it’s key to connect with people who are navigating through the same thing. 🙏 @melanietritt4092
I am 22 and I quit "visual" social media 5 days ago. TH-cam is the only one i kept, and even with it, i try to not watch more than 4/5 videos a day. I kept Pinterest, which always gets me inspired. Letterboxd and GoodReads for culture. Quora for random questions I have. One day I woke up and realized I didn't really know who I was and what I like. Why? Because I was so used to seeing who other people were and what they liked. I got so anxious at the thought of this.. so I just quit. On the other hand, these have probably been the most exciting 5 days of my life. I discovered the pure JOY and excitement of saying "I want to know myself". I want to BE with myself, I want to DO EVERYTHING with myself. In these 5 days I've done things I've never done before, while I was mindlessly scrolling through other's' lives. I went to the park and meditated, I signed up for a painting class, I did pilates and TRX for the first time, I read a book so beautiful I finished it in 6 hours. I've talked to strangers just for the plot. I asked myself how I was doing. While I'm starting this journey... today at the park I was thinking also about my future kids. I don't know where technology will be in 10+ years from here.. but I will definitely teach them the importance and the power of our attention. That is the only thing we really own and where it goes determines all the things that influence your mind and, therefore, your happiness. I don't know who will read this comment. But all I want to say is just: DO IT. Quit.
I dont care about other people and their lives. My issue is the fast short videos and the need to log on and fill 2 min of waiting with reels
I hear you. Same here.
I never joined Instagram, Tiktok or Facebook. I was on Tiktok for a while there when it was still new. But then I realized all social media does is make us compare ourselves, and feel inadequate. I might be a you tube addict🫢. Bug I recently decided I will also join and create something so I don't just consume
I love how passionate you are. Keep going!💜
Thank you for your beautiful words 💙 If my only accomplishment in life is getting people off social media, I won 😅
I haven't gone back to social media since 19th Dec, 2021. My anxiety levels have gone down significantly. I'm now selfish with my time and energy (in a good way). I'm starting to see personal growth now. There's beauty in growing in private. My life is too precious for public display on social media. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom with us. 🧡💙
YES!!!! These comments bring me the most joy. It inspires me like no other. Thank you for sharing your story. I want you to know that it’s inspiring and really hard what you are have done!
beautiful, my friend. thank you for sharing 🙏
Thank you my wisdom friend 🙏
Im on my 6th month
YES! Keep going. That’s insane. 6 months is really good. That means you’ve won. Don’t stop.
Man you are inspiring. You are creating Impact in this world, it might be little but you are. I will try to read one of your recommended books. Feels good to know that people like you exist in this world, because nowadays there are lots of negativity.
Thank you so much for your kind words and good energy. You have no idea the impact that can have on somebody, I’m feeling it. I apologize for the late reply, I’ve taken a social media break (I always take sprints like that.) please let me know what book you come across. I’d love to hear more about what you discover. Wisdom finds wisdom, that means you have wisdom 💙🫂
I will do it tomorrow. It’s my birthday. 48 years old. The depression and anxiety I’m in will be the last hopefully. I will keep you tube to listen to you and other people with the same thinking. I used to read a lot, I used to love my passion for my entrepreneur role. But after an abusive relationship I had to flee. I was isolated and social media was my life. I have never been so deposed . I’m a yogi, mindset coach, interior designer and real estatebroker. I want to live a slow life, with real people . Create, love old music, love old architecture and I guess I’m an old soul. I will do it!! Delete it
Happy belated birthday! Did you get a chance to try? I’m sorry to hear about your journey with the relationship... If you ever want to connect you can send me a message on Instagram and we can exchange WhatsApp’s. I’m always here to chat and connect with likeminded people - I love that stuff and that’s the point of social media, to take the relationships outside of the apps. It sounds like we have a lot in common! Social media is not for us. Hope to hear from you!
I want to do this but I’m nervous
I hope you did it! Let me know
Agree! I'm gradually limiting my time on social media like Tiktok, Instagram, even Facebook recently. And I really just feel much better right now 👌
Yessss!! This brings me so much happiness :) congrats!
im off social media for a month now. in a week i've read 3 books. havent done that ever since i got into tiktok, and i LOVED to read. i feel so much better
YES!!! The magic is happening. Congrats and keep me posted on your journey. What books have you read?
Hi Kris! Thank you for sharing this ❤ I really related what you said you were looking for in a retreat I wanted to ask you, because initially I really got excited about the Ayahuasca Foundation, but then when I went on their website and saw the prices it really turned me off. It's not outrageous for Peru but it's still quite high (more than Flower of Life and Nimea Kaya per se) and it's not even about the wallet pains for me, as much as it taints the image of the resort of me.. since I arrived in Peru my impression has been that everybody here including some of the native community are all about money and nothing else Do you feel this is not the case with this resort? Do you feel the Shamans are purehearted and would do it for free if they could? They didn't just look to pair up with a western money well resource using their skills as bargain? Does the resort have a excuse reason to charge these prices?
Hey! Thank you for your questions. I’ll share my perception with it, with the hope it helps! When I booked it was early 2018, so prices were around $2,000. And when I did it about 2 years after that (Covid issues etc) I heard the prices doubled and now they might even be more? So when I did it, it was the higher price, but my energies felt safe, and my gut felt safe, so I went with it. I’m grateful I did because it was a 10/10 experience. The shaman and the 2 facilitators were all doing it from the soul/heart. I can’t speak about others because I didn’t do them. I heard some stories about the lack of facilitators. And the more the better because when some people in the group start you know.. doing there thing, they’re assisted right away and there’s more people around incase you know, you do your thing haha. So I was never worried about support. Everyday was special, it was just mama aya, there was other plant medicine being introduced and other deep healing. It was a full 10 days of multiple plant healing with the shaman. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Would I pay over $5,000 for it? I don’t think I would no. So I can’t speak on why they charge so much now. I know there’s a village in the back and I do know Carlos the guy who runs it supports the community of 50-100 people. There’s a lot of support going around. I hope that helps. But I would always recommend reaching out and jumping on a call with Carlos. That’s what I did and I know he’d love to answer that question for you. It’s a fair question.
Amazing video, loved the way your worded your train of thoughts!
Thank you so much!! I really enjoyed making this video!
Awesome hearing about your journey, your video randomly came up on my home page and I'm glad it did. Keep making content like this, it is very helpful and relatable :) Cheers to the beautiful marathon of life

Try Masterkey System by Charles Haanel and Art of Living by S.N. Goenka. Meditation is not about intellectual understanding, but about experiencing.
Appreciate your sharing those recommendations. I agree with you, it’s all about experiencing with clear lenses 🙏 I love S.N Goenka, I did his 10 days Vipassana (silent retreat) it was really hard.. and very rewarding.
Really useful thoughts and experience❤❤❤
Thank you for watching :))
I’m on my 29-day no social media. I feel great, I feel like I’m living a normal life. ❤
Yessss! This brings me the most joy :) congrats and keep going!
yes dude!!! wow, thank you for this.
My pleasure! Let me know what book hits for you!
Starting 2019 during pandemic, I haven’t realized how my consumption of social media affected me so much. I have developed anxiety, panic attacks, worry amd stress for me and my family not realizing it all rooted from the things that I saw from social media about people losing lives because of covid, illnesses, and all negative stuffs. I have not been aware that the negativity that was created from my own mind is actually coming from the external environment I exposed myself in. Until one day I decided to take a break in social media and started to read more, do art, all those high quality activities. it lasted for 3 months but I found myself back again, wasted more time in instagram, getting more external validation through likes and loves, watching other people’s lives and unconsciously compare my life to others, posting photos about me doing my hobbies when in fact I just want other’s to see how interesting my life is, and to make others see that I was a very passionate human being. until this year recently I read books about digital minimalism and listen to podcast relating to that topic. And that was the pivotal moment that I realized I don’t want to waste my life anymore, to live my life for others, to consume other people’s lives, I wanted to live my life for myself authentically and not driven by getting external validation. I’ll to go to new places because I wanted t, not because I wanted to take photos from there to show off to people, I’ll eat in a restaurant because I want to experience the food for myself and not to take photos of the amazing food that I eat, I wanted to get to know myself more by discovering myself what really I’m interested to do coming from my own decisions and not driven by other’s people opinion and validation. Removing just the app did not work for me because I knew that anytime I can reinstall the app and visit my account again. Setting time limit on my social media apps did not work for me as well. So I have decided to delete entirely my account so that I have no reason to come back anymore. Honestly, it was the best decision that I made. I found myself not needing to take photos of every thing that I do, I am more present to real life conversation, I have more time for hobbies that makes me happy, I find myself not spending money too much because I was not exposed to advertisement, I let myself become bored again because that’s when I became more creative, I find myself more focused on the work that I do and not looking for constant distraction. If I will decide if I’ll go back to social media again, I will never come back again. It’s the most liberating thing that I ever done to myself because I want to live at the present moment, to slow down, cherish the time I have with the people right in front of me, more time to do the things that really makes me happy♥️
i love this brother! thank you
Really stoked it aligned with you, appreciate the constant support 🙏
Thank you Kris🎉❤ Watching from Philippines
Amazing!! My pleasure, I’ll be in the Philippines next year 🙏
This video is so refreshing. The values here are relatable and heart-centered. Thank you for making this
These are such amazing words and brought me such a bright smile. Thank you so much for giving your time and watching the video. I’m glad it aligned with your heart! That was the goal. Heart to heart 💙
Hi, Kris! Just discovered your channel. Great video, keep going :)
Hey Carolr! Amazing - grateful the TH-cam algo has connected us! And I appreciate the kind words. Reach out if you ever have questions :)
Thank you man, i´m 29yo and i´m feeling kinda lost. I know my gifts, but i don´t know how to use them, mabe somewhere deep i´m scared... so i´m on this road of self discovery. Your videos helped me alot. 🙂
Thank you for sharing that with me/us! I completely get it, the modern age is notorious for making us feel scared.. the positive thing in this situation is the knowing that these are only limiting beliefs. And beliefs can we changed and reprogrammed. I’m confident if you stick to your road to self discovery, you will overcome this! If you need anymore help please reach out and we can connect deeper! Sending you some good energy, always here to chat!
Thank you so much! Really! My main goal right now is to find my way, trying to not let society influence me! Thank u, this video is great and helpful! ❤️🙏
Awh, this makes me so happy. I’m glad to hear it resonated with you. I found that to be the hardest part in my journey and still is today - societies influence on us. Stay strong and remember to always bring yourself back to your heart. Societies can influence our mind but they cannot influence our hearts 🙏 @mysteriousGiada
TH-cam is social media
It definitely is!
Hy
Hey hey
