    So allot of teachers want you to loop the index finger instead of pointing down. I naturally point down the pick like your showing but when your index finger points down I get index finger contact with the strings at times of fast power cords or playing irritating my index finger is this normal? When I loop the index finger I don’t get this contact but it seems less natural … please advise!

    So many bots in these comments! Your intro bends and tone are not convincing me that your advice is worth my time. I skimmed the video but I'm pretty sure you didn't mention reinforced bending, which is absolutely criminal. If you want to show people that you really know how to bend then try showing some David Gilmour licks instead of these little vibrato bends.

      I literally do a minor 3rd bend in the first 10 seconds. lol If you don't skim, you will understand the reason I start with m2 bends, and PROGRESS to bigger bends later. Sorry the tone isn't perfect. I'm not perfect. Video is closer to 3 years old by now. I've learned a lot since then, but my techniques have all remained the exact same. Best! - Matt

    Was looking at videos. Some say letting your fingers hang is not ok. I tried other ways but that doesn’t work for me. I also anchor my pinky. Trying other ways feels detached from my fretting hand if that makes sense. It feels weird. Was teaching my daughter some chords. Wanted to see if my way of holding the pick is the right way. It’s hard to get rid of bad habits. The part about the bridge is more a preference I think. I am used to Les Paul. Tunomatic bridges need more space. With your wrist on the bridge it’s quite comfortable. I prefer it over strat type.

      Thanks 🙂 For smaller hands, play with thumb position. I like using the area closer to the joint on the thumb, but with small hands, you can experiment with playing a little bit more on the tip of the thumb... But more importantly, I would look at the "depth" and "wrap" of the overall hand position. AKA: Maybe the thumb contacts the neck more towards the skunk stripe, or even past it and is a little more behind the higher strings. Hand ROTATION will also be important. Because this video teaches you PRINCIPLES, you should be able to consciously and correctly customize your own technique from here. Good luck!

    My biggest issue is when trying to tune between drop tunings and standard tunings. JEEESUS I need to retune my guitar like 50-100 times before it stays remotely in tune if I try to go to drop tuning. Not viable to do this live.

    • @mattwright466
      @mattwright466 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is not viable to do it with a floating bridge guitar... Remember, you are balancing tension of the springs against the strings. If you drop tune a string, it's out of balance and always will be. Ideally, you need two guitars. Or you can use a tremel-no / tremstop. Or get a fixed bridge guitar.

      1. Haven't had a hands on with it yet. Eager to though. 2. It's a little new so it's not as developed as other systems. 3. Either all of the people using it just like these really artificial sounding tones, or the tones I hear from it just sound really artificial. Not a fan of this aspect.

  • @gibson2623
    @gibson2623 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi agree with everything, basically, but you forgot to address one important thing. You are resting the guitar on the wrong leg. It s easier to play sitted with the guitar on the left leg, that s the classical and correct way. I use right leg also like you if I am strumming, but in a in a classical piece , the guitar on the left leg allows you to have a much easier access to the fretboard and yo also don t strain your right shoulder. :) Good video man, and great advice for people who need to improve.

    • @mattwright466
      @mattwright466 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks a bunch! I intend to get a Les Paul! The tone on those things is awesome. However, since I don't have one yet, I can't advise well... Try and adapt these concepts as best you can. My suspicion is that the result of the bridge setup being so high off of the body, the motion will be FORCED to come a little bit more from wrist pronation/supination and we'll just have to live with it, even though it's not "technically" ideal. Technique for acoustic guitar is basically entirely different as it's much more strum based for many things versus single note picking as this video is primarily written to address. Are you trying to play strumm-y stuff or single note stuff on acoustic?

    • @krakerz
      @krakerz หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mattwright466Indeed the tone aspect is amazing. I've never heard such unique distortion on a guitar! Well i do my best to get comfortable and have the best possible technique for my wrist. What about palm muting the lower strings while playing the high strings? I try to "slide" my hand downwards to play the higher string but then my muting sucks and to get it right i newd my hand to get closer to the neck, is that good technique? Just wanna make sure. About the acoustic, i only have 2 guitars: the Les Paul and an old acoustic guitar which i put on 12 string gauge on lol. I sometimes play the "single note lines" on acoustic just to get more finger strenght, which i suppose works for me. And just wanted to make sure, cause the "moving right hand closer to the neck" is common for me in playing both guitars. Thanks for feedback!

    • @mattwright466
      @mattwright466 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@krakerz I can't troubleshoot technique through comments but I think I've accomplished my goal as a teacher - Not to teach you by rote, rather to transfer the PRINCIPLES and make you think consciously about how you CHOOSE to form your technique. And you're doing just that. 👏
