David Borden - Three Preludes and Fugues for Two Pianos (animated graphical score)
มุมมอง 775ปีที่แล้ว
David Borden composed a set of twelve preludes and fugues between 2011 and 2017. This video features MIDI realizations of the final three pairs in the set dedicated to composer Pauline Oliveros, musicologist Xak Bjerken, and MIT physicist Neil Gershenfeld respectively. Some of the pieces feature Borden's idiosyncratic style of counterpoint influenced by minimalism, while others incorporate elem...
David Borden - The Continuing Story of Counterpoint, Part 8 (animated graphical score)
มุมมอง 566ปีที่แล้ว
Part Eight of 'The Continuing Story of Counterpoint' was composed a year after the sad disbanding of the last all-Moog Mother Mallard group. With the minimal amount of equipment I had left, I set up a temporary studio in a vacant firing range at Cornell University during the summer of 1979 and completed Part Eight surrounded by spent shells and perforated targets. It was a difficult time during...
David Borden - The Continuing Story of Counterpoint, Part 11 (animated graphical score)
มุมมอง 371ปีที่แล้ว
Part Eleven of 'The Continuing Story of Counterpoint' is dedicated to the late pianist Edmund Niemann and numerologically takes its content from his birthdate, 12/25/1945. There are two musical elements: chords and a melodic idea. The duration of the chords and the number of notes in the melody derive from the date. A large portion of this piece is taken up with canons at the unison or octave t...

Hans Otte - 'Das Lied der Welt' for 10 choirs in 10 countries (1986)

Nine European public radio stations coordinated by Hessiche Rundfunk from central studios in Frankfurt joined forces in December 1986 to produce 'Das Lied der Welt' (The Song of the World) by the German composer Hans Otte (1926-2007). For this work there was not a single audience, except for the electronic space of the radio, since only in it were the performances of mixed choirs gathered, each...
Selected Works by Marjan Mozetich (1978-2005)
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Marjan Mozetich is a Canadian composer best known for his 1997 violin concerto 'Affairs of the Heart'. Originally a writer of avant-garde and serial music, beginning in the late 1970s Mozetich shifted his compositional style into a kind of lyrical postminimalism which eventually became full-blown neoromanticism in the mid-1980s. This video compiles a number of compositions written during that t...

Being a completist about Laurie Anderson, I'm delighted to find this. Thank you for posting it!
Having listened to many recordings, as well as a live performance, I feel this piece often falls victim to 'youthful exuberance.' This is not to diminish the efforts or intentions of young musicians, whose energy and passion are admirable. However, this piece demands a deep understanding and meticulous preparation to fully realize its intricate layers. Too often, performances lean towards overly energetic and fast tempi, which, while technically impressive, can undermine the depth and nuance the music requires to truly resonate with its audience. This performance, a first time listening for me, is superb!
Thanks so much for this dear David!
So Tangerine Dream straight up stole this and basically build their whole style upon this
Do you think that beginning of 'Débarcadère' (06:09 - 07:05) is similar to famous Haendel's aria 'Ombra mai fu' (from the opera 'Serse')?
Beautiful album, one of Nyman's best. He later recycled most of those compositions. Much of the reused material has been listed by the author of this video in its description. However no one mentioned yet that 'Les manifestations' has become 'Chanson einer Dame im Schatten' - one of six songs with words by Paul Celan which has been recorded by Ute Lumper and Hillary Summers.
A bit of sanity in an otherwise.................................................chaotic...............................something or other !?
9:20 It's so funny hearing the audience applaud as the Air Force One cut-out descends and Nixon and Pat step out. You'd think the actual President and First Lady had arrived on stage.
Thank you so much for re-uploading this! The original staging is spectacular and I’ve been dying to find a DVD or a digital copy of it anywhere. I bought the Met’s 2011 staging on Blu-Ray last Christmas but haven’t watched it all the way through yet. It’s amazing to see it in HD on our TV. On a related note, do you know if there are any video recordings of Adams’ “Girls of the Golden West”? Your channel is a gift. Thank you again.

Definitely not Mozart

thanks for the upload. I saw this at English National Opera in, I think, 2000, and it was mesmerising.
Whoops, you have Nixon and Maddalena’s names flipped around on the cast list haha - looks like Nixon’s playing himself! Thanks for the great upload.
Thanks for the correction!

I saw this on opening night in Houston. (Don't tell my ex GF who bought us tickets for another night as a present for me.) It was a great era for HGO. They have struggled to get the level of funding to make so many commissions and new productions since that time.
I remember attending the UK premiere at the Edinburgh Festival in 1988.
Remembering this as a weekend special, premiering on PBS tv in NYC, 1987

A quick add-on. By your post I discovered Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato, played on organ by Toon Hagen. Just marvelous. Wow. Like an eternal and joyful procession dance. Brilliant!
Brilliant! Do you know on what organ this was recorded? It definetly was not "the green monster" from Martinikerk Groningen
The Welmers was performed on the Goll Organ (1998) of the Martinikerk in Memmingen and the Wielenga and Matter were performed on the Bader Organ (1643) of the Walburgiskerk in Zutphen.
"Many critics have labeled it a branch of minimalism, intimating that Glass, Reich, and Riley are its forebears rather than Mahler, Schubert, and Beethoven." Górecki himself said: "Minimalism gives me the shivers - I'm not in that drawer. I know myself well. I know my sources."'
Love this! Thank you.
I love the music posted on your channel. However, I wish you would upload the videos with higher resolution. At 360, the audio quality is compromised.
Thanks!
Shoutout to Gary Burke sitting an entire hour out to play glockenspiel in Part 4

Wow I LOVE this, thanks!!!! What an underrated band/composer!
I think they made the wrong choice... this is beautiful and fitting, i think... (I'm watching the movie for the first time now).
Great to have this original recording - quite polite compared to what it sounds like live
"Look what they need to do to emulate a fraction of my power" - Electronic music, probably
The premiere was in 1964, not 1965
Actually, the first 10 minutes of this is one of the ANATIDAE. Improvisations which leads into C-A-G-E III.

I’m so glad this is on TH-cam. I saw this work performed at CSUF. What a treat.
Those present seemed to feel it was the premiere of the pieces - where was it done before?
