If it fits within your budget and you're not a total purist, I think you'll be a lot happier with the 258 I6 if you convert it to fuel-injection. It's torquey enough in stock form but it only produces 112 hp and its gas mileage is pitiful. An EFI conversion will put its hp and mpg roughly on par with the 4 liter.

I also changed the engine out to a chevy 1968 327 small block. 1995 transmission and transfer case ,488 games commonly axel.shore grip posit traction. Got red of the spite front axle, put in a state axle. All of the vacuum lines is gone. It have a electronic ignition that runs off of a switch for the fuel pump setup.

The suction and return to fuel tank go straight to a PSI control system.

I have a1987 yj and I end up moving the filler neck to the driver's side panel. Using the same filler nick assembly.

Those vacuum lines are more to monitor the vacuum for the old computer and to let the computer it had control the air flow into the carb with what they called a TAC filter. (Not really about sucking fuel but more about routing air and controlling the throttle.) That throttle control is part of the stock computer controlled Carter carb. You could get a non-computer controlled Carter style carb and remove the need for most of that computer vacuum line(which is what others mentioned regarding the “nutter”) and even take it a step further and use an HEI distributor to further reduce the electrical running in there. Those are some thinking points to research if you didn’t want to go fuel injection(which is also a good route.) But just getting an hei and the nutter on my 87 has been a bit improvement.

When you put it in gear look under car and see if propshaft is turning if it is its your back axle thats faulty

Over the top of the tank a small rubber hose becomes squashed due to the body pressing down on it as the rubber body mounts start to flatten out over time. check its not stopping the fuel flow from the tank etc. I have two yj,s and it caused fuel starvation on one of my vehicles.

I still have my 93 now 25 yrs. Tub off restored it 10yrs ago with 15k+ in good stuff. axles/ lockers, high clear hyd steering, old man emu sus, interior, half drs, best top kit. Repainted the forest green and gold w/ beadlocks gold to make it all look factory like how these new 60+k jeeps are trying to do.

Look up GenRight for YJ bumpers and those fenders you liked on the other guys YJ, they’re in California… USA 🇺🇸 made quality stuff. They have those in steel and aluminum… I have the steel set myself. Just search GenRight YJ Parts. I have the Factory Service manuals in PDF format if you’d like to have those… you’ll learn A LOT! The outtake sponsor ad was funny to 😂 There are huge Jeep shows and events here in the Carolina’s and the great smoky mountain Jeep invasion in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee … GenRight just started coming to that last year… Tony is a good dude. Those Carter BBD 2 Barrel carbs are junk and run off vacuum … if you want to stay with a 2 barrel carburetor you can go with Weber Redline 32/36 … you’ll need to do the nutter bypass when you swap that Carter BBD carb off there or it’ll be leaving you stranded. We don’t have emissions inspections in the Carolina’s and once the vehicle is 30 years old it doesn’t get ANY inspection period. As for your snapped axle, getcha a set of 27 spline chromoly axles from Yukon Gear and Axle. Buy the Yukon YES PLAN and never worry again… as you won’t be replacing them but in the event you do break one, no questions asked free replacement 👍 You should have the BOLT IN axle not a c-clip and that’s a good thing. Don’t listen to haters, the Dana 35 can be built into a Super35 and trussed and it’ll be an off-road warrior. You can build that Dana 30 axle upfront too… you can not do the block off plate unless you go with a locker… otherwise, you’re going to need to keep your current setup. Stay away from fox shocks, there too stiff, replace what you've already got. I have fox on my xj, they suck.
