High Plains Detecting
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ก.ค. 2014
Just up here in North Dakota metal detecting when the ground isn't frozen or covered in snow. I tend to detect little old towns and farmsteads to find the "Old" stuff but some door knocking at older homes in town isn't out of the question.
I will also try to make a number of coin certification videos where I send in coins I've dug up while metal detecting but that will all depend on whether I can keep digging good stuff.
If I can ever get back down to south east Montana I will post some dinosaur hunting videos.
I use a Minelab CTX 3030 and I will try to give viewers an idea of the types of signals and numbers I get from each target I dig.
Thanks for visiting my channel and an extra thanks if you've liked, shared or subscribed.

Man. That is awesome stuff
Thanks Cousteau! I was pretty pleased with what was coming to me.
Nice finds. Those buttons are amazing. I have not found one yet, pretty rare out west. I agree Big Boys Hobbies is a good place to buy. I bought my Manticore package from him and saved hundreds. Continued good hunting.
Thanks Wilton! I really had a good time popping those buttons out. I like the somewhat more personal items.....and the Infantry buttons are really cool! Bart is great at Big Boys Hobbies! He saved me a couple hundred on my new CTX3030 plus I got a free pinpointer out of it......couldn't find a better deal anywhere else!
Awesome finds! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun digging up stuff THAT old! We usually don't see much that is from the 1860's
Crazy digs!! Nice location!!
It was crazy how much stuff was still there.....and I'm sure there's more!
I feel your pain about your teeth! I currently have only 12 teeth remaining. Two molars on both sides on the top, four front bottom, one molar on the bottom left & three molars bottom right. I'm supposed to be getting my final partials in the next week or two. I used to have great, strong teeth but from what several dentists I've seen over the yrs have said was that some of the meds I take for high blood pressure & other ailments weakened my enamel. I didn't help matters by not keeping up with brushing either so for me it was a combination of factors. Hopefully I can get implants in the near future but for now it's partials for me. Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone in your pain nor mental stress associated with the hassle of it all. Take care & stay safe!
Amazing finds, especially that key date 1931-S wheat cent! Not sure how much you may know about numismatic but that's a key date with only 866,000 having been minted. In the condition that coin is in it's easily worth $70 if not more! Nicely done!
Thanks Michael! I'm actually pretty big into coin collecting so I knew I had a good one with it. I actually made another video of it where I sent it and 3 other coins into NGC. I think it's a bit of a higher grade but I'm thinking it'll get the "environmental damage" notation. I'll make another video of the coins I sent off once I get them back. All 4 of them that I sent in are detecting finds. Thanks for watching!
Great content & I look forward to seeing future videos. Wish you luck that it gets a straight grade but even if it doesn't that's still a tremendous find! Think about it, only 866,000 were minted & there's no telling how many have survived & you actually dug one up! I've been collecting coins for over 20 yrs now & have been lucky with some finds like finding a 1936 & 1972 DDO cents while hunting rolls from banks or bags from dealers. I'd flip out if I were able to find any key date of any denomination! LoL! Again, good luck & I'll be watching future videos! Stay safe!
Thanks @michaelmartin4816 ! I actually dug a 1921-D Mercury dime 3 years ago that I got graded by NGC as an XF45! Luckily I was quite careful with it and put it in my truck not knowing what year and mint it was so I could spray it off with some water to try to keep from scratching it once I got done detecting....I'm glad I did! Hopefully I can nab another key date again sometime soon!
Nice finds. I am impressed how well you do filming with one hand and digging with the other….. I tried that and I’m all over the place. Thanks for sharing, those buttons are amazing. Haven’t found an Eagle button yet.
Thanks man! I kind of wonder sometimes how I keep the camera where it needs to be because a lot of times I'm just glancing up at it now and then and not really paying attention to it.
Let’s go let’s go treasure and adventure ✌️🇺🇸💕🌺👵🎉🌎
I agree!
Great job
Thanks Joey!
Those buttons are really cool .
For sure Don! They were my favorite thing to find! Really neat, historical items.
Holy crap!! 1870s site is amazing!! Congrats dude!! Gotta be some old coinage somewhere!
For sure man! I think Kevin wants to get you out there once the big area gets harvested.....gotta be some coin out there somewhere!
@@EmptyWilbur I'm game is heck
@samsager1 it's tough detecting and getting signals but everything you dig is OLD!
Great finds! At 20:41, that's a piece of a Shoulder scale, some have referred to them as Epaulettes, but I believe they're Shoulder scales.
Cool! Thanks Darrel! I knew one of you would know what it was. It was going to be the last dig of the hunt while I was heading back to my truck but than I came across that final button.
Nice finds! Those signals didn't sound that bad! I dig those all the time. It's amazing at what would have gotten passed by. That fort must have been there for quite a few years. The date range of the things your finding is from the 1860's up to the late 1890's. The piece at the end of the vid, 20:40 is a piece of shoulder epaulette. From what I understand, the rookies would show up in full regalia including shoulder epaulette's, and the old timers would give them crap, and they were then discarded. I'm down in the SW corner of ND and need to head north for a few hunts. Seems to be more heritage up that way. Great history dig!!
Thanks BB! I guess I'm used to hunting yards and such so I'm used to really obvious signals. A lot of the signals out at the fort were real faint and difficult to get to repeat. And you're right on with the fort, 1866 to 1894 I believe.
Hey hey bro! great finds! Congratulations... It's all about fun, right? Big support from your new friends and subs...a metaldetecting couple from southern Europe.. Cheers bro!
Many thanks!! It's awesome finding cool stuff but the fun factor also plays a BIG part in detecting. Thanks for watching and Goodluck to you!
Nothing lame about any of this. It's all history. I've dug lots of square nails, but nothing like that big one. Wouldn't mind finding one of those. Nice Infantry and General Service buttons, too.
Thanks Daniel! It is super hard to detect that ground out there but anything you come across is super old.....really a fun spot to detect. I shouldn't have used the word lame.....just not as exciting as a silver coin I guess. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on your finds. I really like when you show a cleaned closeup of your finds. Good luck in the future.
Thanks William! I always like seeing good close ups of peoples finds so I try to provide the same experience for everyone watching my videos. It's always interesting to see the finds how they look after a bit of cleaning.
Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work. I grew up in MN but now live out west. More goodies in the midwest to find.
Thanks Wilton! Hopefully my tooth pain will go away and I can get myself back into doing some door knocking......haven't really had the ambition in the past week. Thanks for watching!
I wish I had one of the shell casings. Do not find stuff like that here in San Diego, CA
I kind of wish there were more coins to be had out there but im happy with what i do find. You get me your address and I'll send you one.
@@EmptyWilbur oh that is nice of you. Frank Myers 10978 W. Ocean Air Dr #3115 San Diego, CA 92130
@mrmetaldetectorist no problem Frank! I'll get it in the mail in the next couple days. Thanks for watching Frank!
@@EmptyWilbur thank you so much again.
@mrmetaldetectorist You betcha! I enjoy sharing the history I find especially if someone else can enjoy it as well.
Great hunt. I resubbed you after youtube deleted my account and they do not know why. I would appreciate a sub, like, and comment, if you like what you see. No Indian heads, wheaties or buffalo. I am hoping I will soon. Happy Hunting 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
I resubbed you. Nice hunt 🎉🎉
Thanks! I appreciate it!
1. Nice coins. 2. Cute kitty. :)
Thanks! I've got some really nice kitties......almost too nice......🤔
Its nice to see another No Dak person out there detecting. Nice find buddy.
Thanks Darren! Not much else going on in ND, might as well dig up some silver! 😁
Spent my HS days (79-83) in Kenmare. Are you anywhere close? Some real nice digs there including silver in the hole, Gotta Love It!
Thanks Dirt! I live in Minot but detect all over around here.
@@EmptyWilbur I left Kenmare right after high school in '83 and came to Iowa (extended family). Only time I've ever been back was two summers ago for a drive through before we vacationed at Roosevelt National Park.
Great job. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Joey! I'm going to try to keep getting as many videos as I can get out time permitting. Thanks for watching!
Interesting hunt. Lots of variety.
Great videos. Where are you located, whatever state?
Thanks buzzsaw! I'm in central North Dakota but I get out detecting and working in the western half fairly regularly.
Pointer is not shovel
I don,t mind digging wheats, because you have such a variety of semi key and key dates, like that 1911S you dug. Like I mentioned before with all those D mints, and you hit a 1914D, you will go looking for Wheaties. Good luck.😊
I do like digging those old wheats, that's for sure.
When you opened up saying you wish you would of found more coins, I thought maybe a couple and some relics. But 2wheaties, an Indian head, 2 silvers and your buddies 2center, that's a pretty good day. Enjoyed it.😊
I'm glad you enjoyed it Ron! I guess there was a fair amount of coins in it.....maybe I just wish there were more shiny ones😅
You guys got an an extremely old site for ND. Incredible finds!
Thanks Sam! I'm really surprised that Kevin scored the permission in the first place!
Great finds . Sorry about your pain with the teeth. Been theee before. Thanks for posting your video. Philip Spencer Ohio
Thanks Philip! I had so many teeth that were just breaking and the nerves going dead that my dentist said the best route to go was pull everything and do implants. He said it wasn't a matter of "if", but "when" the remaining good teeth followed suit. I was able to go out digging with my buddy near that old fort right after I got the temporary crowns put on but I paid for it later! I imagine they'll gradually get to where they don't hurt anymore but I think that is another few days. Oh well, as my dad says "Such is life". Thanks for watching Philip!
That bullet looks like a 45-70 springfield bullet that the army used.
Yeah, the bigger one of the two unfired ones I dug was for a carbine my buddy said. He knows way more than I do about that stuff.....it was just really neat to dig that old of material in ND.
New sub. Newbie just wondering make of shovel . Thanks
Thanks for watching and subscribing! What I use is a 36" Anaconda NX‑6 Tempered Steel Shovel. It works great in pretty much any condition.....except frozen ground. I've destroyed a couple of them trying to dig that stuff.
New subscriber. Love the videos! Wish I had your wheat penny problem! Happy Hunting!
Thanks for subscribing James! I shouldn't complain about all the wheats being that usually means there's silver nearby but I feel like people don't want to watch a pile of wheats get dug up. Better than nothing though I guess.
Not a problem for me watching those Wheaties come up it shows everything is working and you're digging is spot on...I'm British so I love seeing these old farmsteads, but what would be gold for me would be an old mining town or an early 1800s ghost town 😲👍and swinging on a civil war or independence war battlefield with that kit you've got you should a real selection of Goodies....
The old farmsteads are easy to come by but we don't have anything really older than the late 1800's sadly. I still have a darn good time with what I do have to detect. Thanks for watching Brian!
Thank you for allowing us to follow your finds. You are doing great. Philip Spencer, Ohio
Thanks Philip! It has been my pleasure. And thanks for watching!
Enjoy watching. You should have a small spray bottle of water to spray off the surface dirt so as not to scrape the surface of the coin and be able to really identify the coin information.
Thanks Raymond! I have a couple spray bottles in my truck that I use when I get done detecting. I usually just leave the dirt on the silvers until I get done.
You should carry a water spray bottle to wash off the dirt off the coins you find, instead of rubbing the dirt over the face of the coins….🤔
I do have a couple little spray bottles in my truck that I use on silvers but for the most part they stay dirty until I get done swinging. Pretty much everything else getting vmwiped clean of the dirt on them.
Hi nice to see your finds. New sub from Australia 🇦🇺😀 I swing a manticore. Your mercury dine is cool. Silver quarter too. I like coins. The round ring looks like a little pendant for a necklace.? Lots of wheaties 😀 bonus digs look cool
Thanks brun!
That soil is treating the coins good, even the coppers. That 1911S wheat looked in really good shape, if that pans out to be fine, maybe extra fine, that's $100plus coin. Silvers look good to. And congrats on the signet ring.😊
Thanks Ron! I'm tempted to send it in to get graded as well but I'm going to try to get some of the green off of it first if I can without screwing it up. That old homestead was amazing to hunt! Thanks for watching!
The Denver mint must of shipped the bank or banks there, a good bit of coins way back then. Because you do have alot of D,s it seems. Good hunt, looking forward to more videos.😊
Yeah, the majority of what I dig is from Denver. We still get a number of Philadelphia and San Francisco coins, and on occasion New Orleans minted Barbers but for the most part it's mostly Denver. Thanks for watching and I hope I can get another video out in the coming week!
Being as you get so many Denvers. You have a slight advantage when you get certain Mercury Head Dimes, such as the 1916D and the 1931D. Two key dates. In Lincoln Head Cents I would always be looking for the 1914D. And being as the soil there seems to be great as your coins come out in very nice condition. Even though those coins are a rare find, even a slight edge is good. And you seem to find alot of Merks and old Lincolns. Hope you will find some over time.😊
New subscriber, i absolutely love digging tokens! 👍 shout out for working on a rig. I grew up in Oklahoma and the oilfield and gasfields. I worked for a few years as a roundabout and worked in the oilfields of south Texas in the early 90's. Good stuff. I also love collecting the wheats and putting them in the book. 👍👍👍
Your videos are awesome… I’m envious of your finds. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to watching more videos.
Thanks DTP! I really appreciate it! Hopefully you can get on to some of the same goodies. I've had a lot of luck this year so far so I hope it keeps up! Goodluck to ya!
During the little groaning and mournful opening, I noticed your background music 🎵🎶 🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸
Take your time with youtube. You are doing great. I have metal texted for 12 years and have never made a video. I enjoy watching folks videos regardless of the finds. I agree a snap of house or a little history would gather intreat of others. And for God's sake, please do not let your pin pointer run over a find for a long period of time. Nothing is more distracting. Enjoy your digs . Thanks for the video!
Thanks Philip! I tried my darnedest to mute the video while I had my pinpointer going off but I couldn't figure out how to do it. My bad.....that is wicked annoying though, I'm in total agreement with you. I have since changed my pinpointer to vibrate only after watching my first few videos. Thanks for watching!
