    What a lovely piece, rendered to perfection; Frederic would be so proud .. he'd say he wrote the piece specially for you! ... But why, why, did you hide this light (de-light) under a bushel for 14 months? ... Maybe it's like fine wine. needs to mature in darkness?? ... But lovely, thank you!

      I think the most obvious and efficient way to practice this is just doing chromatic scales with fingers 3-4-5

    1:27 wowww this is just as fast if not slightly faster than Rudenko’s legendary performance of this etude. I would love to hear tips or secrets on how to play at this speed. Amazing!!!

    • @PapaisSif-h5t
      @PapaisSif-h5t 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It doesn't have to be played at such speed and in fact loses some of its poetry and subtlety when played too fast.

    • @vahehagopian6085
      @vahehagopian6085 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PapaisSif-h5t This is kind of missing the point. Yes, of course, if one were to perform this etude as a musical composition, then this fast of a speed is suboptimal. But there is something to be said about performing Chopin's etudes as *etudes* only -- that is, as technique builders and identifiers of technical mastery. In that context, the faster, the better for the etudes whose difficulty depends specifically on speed (e.g. Op 10 No 2, Op 10 No 1, and many others).

    • @PapaisSif-h5t
      @PapaisSif-h5t วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@vahehagopian6085 The whole idea of an etude is that it provide an exercise in one or more aspects of technique in the context of a musical piece - that it's not just a mechanical exercise like practicing scales and arpeggios or like i.e Hanon or any of a number of other such strictly mechanical exercises which are useful but in very specific ways. Chopin's etudes are exercises in musicality and expression as much as of technical mechanism, of a creative level not seen before in this genre. The idea that i.e the main or even a valuable purpose with the faster ones is simply to play them at the fastest physically possible speeds, making of them simply an exercise of athleticism, seems to me antithetical to Chopin's aesthetic and purpose in composing these works.

    • @vahehagopian6085
      @vahehagopian6085 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PapaisSif-h5t Again, if you want to perform this etude, you'll want to play it at a tempo where you can do it musically. I am not disagreeing with that point. I also agree that Chopin intended these etudes to be played musically. But you're still missing the point. There is nothing wrong with pushing the tempo of the "speed etudes" to the fastest tempo you can. Not only is there nothing wrong with that, they are fantastic assessments of a pianist's dexterity. It is also important to note that Chopin picked the metronome speeds for these etudes in a different era of technical prowess. In the 1830s, it was thought Beethoven's Hammerklavier was unplayable, until LIszt performed it for the first time. Today many professional pianists have it as part of their repertoire. The world is now 8 billion people instead of 1 billion. There are almost 200 years of additional technological, recording, and pedagogical advancements. It is still amazing how accurately Chopin assessed the maximum playable speeds of these etudes. For example, He designated Op 10, No 1 to be 176 bpm. Even today, hardly any professionally recorded (non-gimmick) performances are at a faster tempo than that. Two that come to mind are Argerich and Berezofsky, and they're only marginally faster, at right around 180 bpm. Op 10 No 2 is an outlier though. It's possible that in 1830, the novelties of this etude were just too difficult for pianists of that era, but most professional recordings are quite a bit faster. But this is besides the point. There is nothing wrong with pushing yourself physically on these etudes for solely the technical component that assesses your dexterity. Do you miss something doing that? YES! But that's OKAY!
