Steve's Steel..... Building overlanders, modifying and genrally tinkering with my favourite car of all time... the 2002-2005 Land Rover Range Rover L322 with the M57 TD6 engine.
Rubbish Air Suspension, Range Rover Vogue L322 Td6 M57 MC05XDM Episode 3
Here in episode three you find me tackling the problems of a suspension system that won't go up or down. Diagnosing the fault, making the necessary repair and road testing.

This series of videos we are collecting and working on the car.
Here in episode 2 we are diving deep in to the engine problems, doing an injector leak off test and replacing all the vacuume pipes.
I bought MC05 XDM as a project, a perfect project for TH-cam as it has EVERY fault you could expect to find on a 20 year old car.
My intention is to return the car to the condition you would have found it in when you drove it off the forcourt new.

L322 Overlanding Rear Bumper… yes I am still working on it!
มุมมอง 1742 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have been working on a rear bumper for the L322 Range Rover, one that would allow for a swing out spare wheel, fuel cans or anything else you might like to hang on the back of your car.I also wanted to increase the ground clearance at the back of the car, as it has a significant overhang keeping all that metal as far off the ground as possible is a bonus as is ensuring what is under there is ...

Brilliant video Very informative, so much better without the background music, will be watching more of your works.
@@derekhunt6943 thank you! It’s a steep learning curve this video making. 🤣👍
Do a gearbox service, it’s cheap and easy to do! You might find it stops the judder! I have bought 2 L322 very cheaply with failed gearboxes! But I knew when I bought them it was just the torque converters gone! I fitted them myself and fixed the cars for £280. You really need to change the fuel pump only a 20 minute job.
@@Craig-c5e thank you. I had considered doing a fluid and filter change and will. Was going to add some Judder Fix but I have got a new torque converter so will change it 👍
Great vid but the music is very off putting.
@@derekhunt6943 noted! 60 years of fixing things v 1 month of film making 🤣
Yer lose the music
Very interesting information particularly as I may acquire an L322 at some point to replace my ML 270 cdi that I have run and self maintained for the past 8 years
@@derekhunt6943 thanks for stopping buy. Episode 2 is already up and lots more to come 👍
Cracking vid! Love an L322 + M57 combo!
@@torquesteer2657 thank you 🙏 I’m no editor or film maker but I have time so am learning 😁 plenty more to come 👍
Splendid result, very gratifying. I have instructed my butler to present more of these delightful video films for my enjoyment. Thank you.
@@kevinabalo 😁 your welcome… next long form video in 36 hours!
Why does the thumbnail show a 2010 Range Rover and any reason for that annoying banner across the screen all the way through the video 🤔
@@barriecole2488 ahhhhhhhh 🤣 I’m an engineer, not a video editor but at 59 years and 10 months I think I have it in me to learn how to edit. 2nd video in the series coming in the next 36 hours and I hope you will be more impressed, I know I will be.
The low pressure fuel pumps are also common to clog up and eventually fail, only a 10 minute job to change. Don’t fit a cheap Chinese one though! They only make 0.5 bar and will cause the FBH to misbehave too! 😊
@@Craig-c5e hi Craig. Yes I suspect I will be changing the lift pump and the in tank pump. It’s only pushing 3 bar at the filter while the other car manages just over 4 bar. I will do some part swapping between the cars to narrow down the culprit.
Thank God I found another L322 channel. I don't own any but it is my dream car.
@@wolfgangezeh5021 hay thanks for the comment 😁 plenty more video to come.
This is probably an old short and I'll go unnoticed, but I'm genuinely curious. Has this car been expensive to maintain and keep running? I'm currently married to an N20 BMW, of which I don't believe anything shy of Ferrari would be more expensive at this point. I've always wanted an L322, but also would like to keep some money in my wallet lol. I've been looking at M57 and NA 4.4L AJ41 powered L322s, and have heard a lot of both good and bad, I just want the facts from an owner honestly.
Not that old and certainly noticed 😁 I have a M57 as you see in this short but also a 3.6 TDv8. I have no doubt that when it comes to looking after the engine the M57 wins hands down. On the other hand the 3.6 kicks out 100bhp more than the M57 and you do feel the difference. Everything else on the cars is the same so brakes and suspension on these 20 year old cars will need a complete overhaul but once done they are lovely.
Thanks so much for posting this! Looks fantastic and I’m very much looking forward to seeing your progress after you’ve made your move. The geometry should be the same for all model years of the L322, correct? I know I’ve seen some accessories like the tail light rock guards that claim to only fit early year versions (I have a 2012).
@@michaelbreu ‘should’ fit all model years, we can and will test it.

Thank you 😁🤷♂️
Fun fact don't ever buy a piece of crap from Germany😊
I didn’t. I bought it in Yorkshire 🤣
Also, if the insinuation is that Mini’s are German, I think you’ll find they are mostly Peugeot parts. 😅
@@rorytassell could well be, I don’t really want to know 🤣 however when I looked most parts were stamped BMW and when plugged in to the OBD it identified as a BMW 🤷♂️

well i am grandad, and with age comes wisdom
Nobody does it's cuz it's not necessary
wrong!
Only if you hate yourself. Anti-seize is very much your friend.
Love copper Slip 😂
Its the best
Just use screen washer pipe does the job
Hay John, good call in an emergency but all these hoses get a baking from the engine, either use the OE spec brade covered rubber or 'upgrade' to silicone!
Proper cars! L322 = peak Range Rover
I'm tempted in to a 4.4 TDV8 Westminster.....
Nice but I prefer the older ones with the straight 6 BMW engine. Buy them cheap and throw the checkbook at them 🙂
Get back on that bike Steve!
LOL! I must have done at least 20 miles in the last year 😂
