100% agree on the liking music for how it sounds rather than how popular it is. I listen to a lot of music because I have ADHD and it's a good way to stim and keep focus and a lot of what I listen to is not what is popular (though that still shows up) but what scratches the itch in my brain. One of my favorite non-popular albums is Muchacho bu Phosphorescent which is classified as indie alternative rock but that album specifically has more of a jazz indie country sound - super unique and pretty great lyrics too. My other favorite is epic music which is a sub-genre of instrumental/orchestral music that is the music commonly used in trailers and ads. Audiomachine and Two Steps From Hell have some amazing albums and songs that are super catchy and the sound is phenomenal - bonus you will also start to recognize songs in trailers and ads

Came back again for the music, the first two tracks sound like they are from pokemon games…. Now I wanna play pokemon.
