มุมมอง 17114 วันที่ผ่านมา
Whelp, the 355 in the jeep decided to let loose again, it has burnt through ~4.5qts of oil in the 2 weeks that I was driving it. Yanked it apart, and we will be waiting on a crate motor to replace it!

This video covers the engine break-in process on my 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ 355 Small Block Chevy Swap. I cut out pretty much all of the actual break-in, because who wants to watch 20 minutes of an engine running at RPM?

Man that CJ7 sure looks sexy
I wanted the fenderwell headers too, and the Previous owner had swapped a 350 into the YJ, but did THE MOST REDNECK SWAP I EVER SAW!! He drilled a hole into both stock frame side mounts and bolted one bolt thru each, but everyone knows the two frame side mounts are not equal or “square” in the frame, so the old 350 sat 4” offset at the transfer case (np203!) and 2” offset side to side!!! I scrapped the whole shit show and started from scratch! Universal motor mounts, and CJ fenderwell headers- to determine WHERE to set the engine! I bolted the headers on- hanging from hoist, centered the Dana 300 tc I swapped in on my th350, and then shifted the engine to a spot that was centered and cleared the frame with headers, and it worked out perfect! Wish TH-cam would let people post pix! Mines on CUCV 1 tons, and 44” Boggers, and everything css as me out perfect- far from where the po hack had tried to do! These Buicks are the most fun and source of anger, until you build it TJE RIGHT WAY! Then, it’s just a huge hole that you continually throw money into! LOL! I wouldn’t trade it for anything!!! This is my 15th and last one I’ve built- this one’s a keeper!! (Then it goes to the grandson !)
Funnel and tools are in the left corner in the trunk behind a hidden door. Turn the knob and you will find them. I have a 2020 ex hatch and love mine although I modified it quite a bit. First thing I did was get tint especially on the hatch. World of difference in the appearance
If you don’t mind sharing - how much did it cost?
Can’t wait to see the steering interference
no interference, stock steering linkage clears with no issues, used a universal steering shaft to hook up the column to the factory manual steering gear.
How do you change the odometer color to blue? Mines came in red ?
Good video though, well presented and good information
Tilting your engine back is correct, but if you will lay a level on your carburetor, and level it front to back, then put a level on your valve covers. You should have a tilt to the rear. Every engine swap I’ve ever done, that’s the way I’ve done it. Do you want
correct, I did have it leaned back so that the oil pump pickup won't risk starving on braking, with the trans spacer in it, it's still tilted back but before it was too much tilt.
I just got mine this month and i love it!
Awesome! Loving mine so far, always getting >30mpg for me lmao
Amazing video i needed it
Glad to help! Loving it so far, had to take it in to replace the AC clutch shaft oil seal and fix a leak in my hatch but otherwise It's been smooth sailing!
Rear facing LED strips on the inside of the grille to light the engine up through it would be sweet.
good idea! I'd have to run them on the engine bay side, since the radiator would block out most of the light
I see someone here was an ECW fan
ECW? not familiar lol but maybe i know of it, cant remember the acronym unless you mean the wrestling, which I never watch
@@deathtrapgarage506 exactly. Extreme Championship Wrestling had a wrestler called The Blue Meanie.
@ericmarks6322 oh cool! I named it after the blue meanie from the Beatles yellow submarine movie! But either one works lmao
@@deathtrapgarage506 Yeah, I remember that movie. Cool!
consider my jimmies rustled
thank you for this video i got a 95 2.5 L that i’ve been thinking about doing a sbc swap and I am just in the research phase of the process.
Glad to help! Let me know if you have any questions in the event that you do the swap
I have the same car. You can push the sunroof button back to open it fully. You don’t have to hold it!
The more you know!
Cargo space? Car no go space car no fly
That will be a nice car when you get done. Love the rear wheel drive Monte Carlo’s.
Hope you have that Monte restored by now. Everyone thinks you need an SS. The other Monte Carlo’s are really nice too. You can easily make that handle and go as well as an SS.
Unfortunately I made the dumb decision to sell it in April 2021, I would give anything to get it back!!! Currently working on swapping a 355 into my 91 YJ wrangler.
Is an 80s monte carlo a good daily driver? Is there many problems with it? Also great video and beautiful car
the 81-88 Monte carlos are terrific daily drivers, I got good mileage with mine, it was a 305 with a 2.41 Open rear end, so it was sluggish but got very good highway MPG. the LS offers a comfy ride and they are very smooth. Trunk space is great too. As for problems, the TH200 transmission isn't the best, the rear ends can wear out (mine was worn out to the point that you could rock it back and forth about a foot in park) and there is your typical rust issues, make sure the frame rails and floors are solid before considering buying one. Overall i was very happy owning this car and I wish i could get it back!
@@deathtrapgarage506 Hey thanks for the update on it! I'm hoping I'll be able to get one some day. But that may or may not be difficult to do considering the price boost on them lately 😅 But anyways, I had also watched a few of your other videos and seen that you had sold it. I hope one day you'll get another! I've always loved monte Carlos. Especially because my family owned an older Monte Carlo hahah But again thanks for the info you've provided me! I appreciate it
no regular updates is cringe peeposuss
I’m selling my 86 Monte Carlo ls for 10k right now
Nice!
Still own the monte carlo ?
Not anymore, sold to a collector in California. I regret selling it though lol
Nice l love this body style
Nice ride...i just got a 88 ls
I don't believe that came original 305 normally the SS come with that engine an I think the 77 Monte Carlo came with that also
the monte carlos came with either a 4.3l V6, or a 160hp 305 5.0 V8 in 86. if you had an SS, you got the H.O. 305, at 180ish horsepower. the engine in the car is the regular output 305 that came in it from the factory.
