VMARS DDAY80 net - as heard at 06:02 at Andrewsfield on the Collins TCS receiver.
มุมมอง 26หลายเดือนก่อน
My first recording of the VMARS DDAY 80 net on the 6th June 2024 at Andrewsfield. Signals were excellent and noise in low. The receiver on this video is the Collins TCS-12 fed from a inverted V dipole cut for the 80mtr band. VMARS nets are held on 3.615Mcs.

A short video of the little R109 receiver from 1943 and as used by the Para's at Pegasus Bridge receiving Martin, G3YYH, net control Paul, M1PVC and Martin at TM80PB from Pegasus Bridge in Normandy. My aerial was a WW2 12 foot whip. 80 metre conditions were excellent around 7:00 a.m. at Andrewsfield, Essex.

The Vintage Military Amateur Radio Society organised a Special Event Net on the 6th June 2024 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-DAY, the Normandy Landing into Occupied France. I reactivated GB2AAF at Andrewsfield in Essex, a former 9th TAF USAAF airfield built in 1942. B26 Marauders operated from this field under the 322nd BG. Check out my QRZ page for GB2AAF for more details. The main V...
Marconi H2301 Receiver - a rebadged Eddystone 880/3 - one of the best valve receivers ever made -
มุมมอง 1.5K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the best valve (tube) receivers ever made. Stability is excellent from cold as the set uses a massive PTO (Permeability Tuned Oscillator) like the Collins R390. There are 30 bands to select from. The operator sees 1Mhz over the entire scale. The set is badged Marconi but was actually made by Eddystone. Marconi owned Eddystone at this time.

US Army Air Force BC-348 Receiver from WW2 - a superb performer. Using one of my 348s this evening. Video taken a monent ago. Simply superb receivers. This one has been recapped and has an internal PSU. I put a hum bucker circuit on the heaters to negate hum altogether for headphones use. I put some cathode bypassing on the final audio to massively improve the audio and converted the dimmer to ...

I "activated" Andrewsfield in Essex, UK for Airfields on the Air (AOTA) weekend in April. As Andrewsfield was the first operational airfield built by the Americans in WW2 using American built WW2 radios for the vintage station was the obvious choice. This year (2023) is the 80th Anniversary of the opening of the airfield in 1943. The receiver was a very fine recently rebuilt example of the exce...

Just to prove it is possible to go portable with some vintage gear! I was operating at the site of the Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon Hatch in Essex. It's an absolute treat when the noise floor is S1 - AM works beautifully. The receiver is the excellent Hallicrafters S20R made in 1941, restored by myself, and as used by the Voluntary Interceptors or so called VIs at the start of WW2 to listen to Ge...

A short video of the Eddystone 730/4 receiver in action receiving the VMARS Saturday morning net - note I have a short vertical and a lot of noise at the QTH so signals need to strong to be resolved. Many of the VMARS stations run QRP on vintage equipment and are difficult to resolve if noise levels are high.

Very few people know the details of what you are sharing here so, if you wanted, you could post short vids from time to time... just defining terms and showing examples and your traffic would increase as young people would want to learn at the dribble.

VMARS: Vintage & Military Amateur Radio Society was established in 1999 to: Encourage the conservation, restoration and use of ‘classic’ electronic equipment, with a principal focus on wireless techniques, whether applied to communications, RADAR or other pulsed signalling systems-but not neglecting line communication, audio recording, mine detecting and so on. Encourage recording of electronics related history. Preserve the knowledge and skills needed for; The use of traditional modes of communications, such as analogue AM, analogue FM, and Morse Code by radio amateurs. The use of traditional types of component, such as valves, vibrators, leaded components.

Have always enjoyed working on vintage tube tech...now have over 50 radios and transmitters...I'm a Ham so use the vintage gear as was intended. I see plenty of interest in vintage tech in the US too. I also have a couple of 1940 s vehicles too. Stay safe and keep bashing out the videos.

How do you know it's a number station and not a regular amateur? Because the frequency doesn't occur in regular amateur bandplans? It's neither in 40m nor 60m band. 6.76 MHz is below the 40m band lowest freq of 7.00 MHz. and above the highest freq 5.36 MHz of the 60m band. All the best, Rob

RobWhittlestone Hi Rob - not sure if that was a question ...as you appeared to have answered it yourself! As you say the transmission is outside the Amateur bands. I am a Radio Amateur.
