John Corigliano: Revolution Battle Sequence with music only
มุมมอง 138หลายเดือนก่อน
When scoring Hugh Hudson's 1985 film REVOLUTION, composer John Corigliano suggested to the director that the scene might have more impact if the sound effects were removed, and the footage accompanied by the music alone (much as composer Toru Takemitsu had approached the battle scene in Akira Kurosawa's RAN). Hudson however felt that the sequence would be better served by a more "realistic" app...

Was just re-watching the Lethal Weapon films and kept wondering why the music sounds so similar to the music on the Die Hard movies, with lots of crescendos and powerful brass to heighten the intensity of action scenes. Now I realze they were composed by the same guy.
Jerry is one of the best!
Jerry Goldsmith is probably one of the best film composers that ever lived, they should make a documentary about him so that people can discover him again.
A GREAT composer who helped make movies into great movies!
He scored the first X-Men movie and was listed on the CD as Michael K-Men.
no mention that it was written for a movie called "Five Days From Home"?
which one of the songs from that movie became the theme to Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
How dare they cut off the video before that incredible climax of the bridge!
Fantastique cette interview !
Vous avez guéri des âmes avec votre musique dans le film The Message. Que votre âme repose en paix, monsieur.
From Titanic To Avatar James Horner Did This Role
It's funny, the clip at :43 is from the film's trailer -- and the music you hear is actually James Horner's score for Willow! Kamen's score was unfinished when trailer was put together, so the trailer didn't contain any of the actual music from Prince of Thieves.
His music has been part of my childhood through adulthood I loved his movie work and his work with Metallica
This is an interesting rare video clip of John Williams conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall? I wonder if Jerry Goldsmith was at that concert too??
Goldsmith did an earlier philharmonic in 1975 its on youtube
Excelente performance by Maestro Ozawa...Bravo!!! John Williams great piece of music🙏
So sorry this has been here for 3 years before I found it. But im here now.. Excellent.
As a serious collector of film scores, Elmer Bernstein was AWESOME(I have a TON of Bernstein scores). My favorite score composed by him is "Ghostbusters" with my 2nd being "The Magnificent Seven". Another God from Mt. Olympus gone too soon.
I wish Michael Kamen was still alive
thank you for the upload, what a humble person
this guy was so great.
I think this is the only time in which Mr. Williams conducted music from Jaws 2 in concert (this is an excerpt of the great "Eddie's Death" cue). Also great to hear "The Abduction of Lucy" from Dracula, another incredible score that isn't often performed.
わお!ジョン・ウィリアムズほんとに楽しそう🥰
Great looking family
This man gave Roger Corman a million-dollar soundtrack for Battle Beyond the Stars.
Rip❤
So many musicians worked with Michael Kamen - a force for good. He wrote tons of film scores
I like his shout out to sunshine.
What a beautiful spirit he has.
貴重な映像をありがとうございます。From Japan
Haaaa you're the drummer in Clapton's Concerto for Guitar!!! (The greatest piece of music I've ever heard!) I always wondered if it was Phil Collins!?!
Jerry we miss you so much! The film music was not the same without you !😢
Hard to believe he's dead for 20yrs now. He died too soon!
Mulan, 13 warrior, small soldiers and many others.... could not have that charm without jerry goldsmith music. Absolutely adorable
I knew and worked with Elmer for some years, We had a few disagreements along the way, but always remained mates. I produced a re-issue of the RCA Victor soundtrack of "Summer and Smoke", which is one of my favourite Bernstein scores. Elmer commented favourable on the quality of the mastering and the pressing. I miss Elmer to this very day. He was certainly the most versatile of the major composers working in Hollywood.
Layer upon layer of magnificent music so wondrously ethereal and majestic. Horner's was Incredibly talented and left the world too soon but his music lives on. Every note heard and listened to with immeasurable pleasure. James will live again forever.
I love that this was filmed during the production of Poltergeist II and that we get to hear a little bit of the score during the interview.
they didn t even talk about the thriller !!! what a waste
Thank you!
I just love how Elmer was non stop smiling throughout the whole thing…just goes to show how much he was loved and appreciated. Also, how adorable is James Fox here? He was such a cutie pie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, still was a cutie in his early 60’s at the time (he was born on May 19th, 1939)…though it should be noted that in “The Tapioca” he was dubbed over by an uncredited singer by the name of Jimmy Bryant (which is strange, considering that nobody else was dubbed over in the movie, really, and that was the only number in which James “sang” in the movie).
What an elegant and lovely performance. Thumbs up and a lovely smile from John Williams. Rest in peace, Seiji Ozawa.
Jerry Goldsmith is one of my idols. His scores sound so endemic to the piece, characterizing, creating mood, giving soul & spirit to the film, the spine, the essence….He’s one of the best, since the days of The Man from UNCLE & Dr Kildare on TV in the early 60s. I just wish as a fan I could’ve expressed my admiration of his amazing talent. He’s sorely missed. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
MR ELMER BERNSTEIN IS CERTAINLY A GREAT LEGENDARY MUSIC COMPOSER. WHAT A DEPTH AND PEAK IN HIS WORK. IT'S CERTAINLY AND SIMPLY A GREAT THING. FROM : MR UMESH M CHOUDHARI - 440027. (WORLD PEACE LOVER - MOTIVATOR ) DATE : 08 JANUARY, 2024 🧡💛💚💙💜🖤♥️💖💐🌹🥀🌺🌻
Looks like the Symphony Orchestra guy I have seen in Metallica's S&M concert videos
His intuition, instinct, intelligence, are unique in film scoring, his humanity, his talent, the crowning glory of a truly great artist.
Such an underrated movie 🎥
Who is the timpani player?
I think it's Donald J. Williams: member of the Hollywood Studio Symphony, though I could be wrong. Sadly, the official musicians roster for this score has no proper principal timpanist designation for who played the timpani in this score.
@@GH_EmotionalGuy thanks
@@lokeshpandya5252 You're welcome.
This is mesmerizing to watch. Not being a musician, but loving music, can anyone tell me what instrument is used to make the whooshing noise at around 2:33 and again around 2:44? Fascinating.
Combined synth with "wind" sound and horns w/no mouthpiece (Horner will use this effect in "Universal" logo and "Land Before Time" later)
Oh yes😂😂😂😂😂
Ghostbusters for me just defined what a score is supposed be like.
1:34, that Violinist was not happy with Horner possibly calling him out on a wrong note (lol).
I came across the Kamen-Sanborn album quite by accident in my youth … I didn’t know anything about music, but I knew this was special.
Georges Delerue is a good composer but James Horner was a better choice for this movie because he captures the whimsy and childhood wonder better along with the surreal moments. Delerue’s score sounded too much like a dirge.
Both scores are excellent in my view; in fairness to Delerue, the version he scored was very different from the one Horner was given. Unsatisfied with Jack Clayton's cut, Disney decided the film was in need of a radical re-think, and made significant alterations to the film -- not only replacing Delerue's music, but removing footage, shooting new scenes (such as the tarantula sequence), and adding a number of effects shots. Trivia: Jerry Goldsmith was actually asked to write the replacement score, but was unavailable.
