Hundgirrid Channel
Italy
Hundgirrid Channel is a channel focusing 99.99% on the Atari ST 16 bit machine and very few extras.
The purpose of this channel is to show ST games, good and bad ones of every genre, with a little description to tell my personal point of view about their graphics, sounds and playability.
Clips are made with blind runs or built-in demos and I'm sure you'll notice it.
Videos are published every wednesday and every sunday at 18:30 (6:30pm) CEST (Central European Summer Time).
Every game is played on original hardware (1040STF, 1040STFM and 1040STE (4mb)) with standard 3.5" floppy disks or ST/MSA archives on Gotek Drives or SD Hard drives (loading times are almost always cut during video editing).
As I want to help the Atari ST community to grow and stay alive, this channel is made only with passion and I'll never make money from it. As such, everyone should feel free to share or link my videos in social medias, blogs or internet pages without fearing consequences.

Cosmic Pirate - Atari ST / STE
In this video, Cosmic Pirate a.k.a. Outlaw, released in 1989 for the Atari ST by Palace Software.
We are a modern pirate, one with a spacecraft, lurking around to take by force everything valuable from other ships and trying to become the most famous Cosmic Pirate. Easy? Nope, it's a hard thing to achieve. All our income is barely enough to buy contracts and to pay ship repairs, not to mention the fact that we must also buy food and a place to store our ship while inactive. When you finally got some hard earned money, you would consider buying a better engine for your ship or better weapons or many other things.
Cosmic Pirate is a multidirectional scrolling shoot'em up at its base, but the fact that you can progress to update your ship and play many different missions, mixed with fast action, make you glued to your chair.
The graphics are good, the scrolling is smooth, the audio is good, the playability is excellent. Give it a try.
Here you'll find loading screen, menu options and gameplay.
All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.
Let me know what do you think about the video in the comments below but, most important, Enjoy!!!

carino, ma i nomi delle armi, vespa? TESCO (supermercato inglese)??
This game reminds me of FIREFLY from Ocean on the Commodore 64. The Atari ST version of COSMIC PIRATE looks pretty cool 😺👍🕹️. David Whittaker plays an excellent soundtrack 🎵🎶 on both Amiga and Atari ST versions of this game 😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
that's the proof that shadow of the beast could have been possible with paralax at 50 fps!!! Some developers should have been punished for their lazyness!!!!!
You're absolutely right
I played emulated C64 version a bit. Obviously, better graphics on ST (although not bad on C64 at all), but super smooth scroll vs flip-screens and music on C64 make quite a difference,
I like this game, use to play it often. As you say, the graphics are beautiful and colourful, it’s a fun platformer, but it’s a pity that it uses the STE capabilites but it has that annoying flipping scroll, the STE blitter scrolling could’ve been a good choice for this game.
You are absolutely right, flip screen on STE shouldn't be allowed.
Damn the ST was really a weaksauce.
With programmers like these, every computer or console becomes weaksauce
It seems you don’t know much about the ST. Next time try to talk about things you know
I remember having that game for my Commodore 64 on a tape (loose). I'm surprised, that it came out for the Atari ST, but not the Amiga. And everytime i look at that cover art work, it brings me the retrospective memories of HEAVY METAL (also known as, METAL HURLANT). A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. GAME OVER 😹👍🕹️!
Basically, it looks like the Amstrad CPC version but more fluid. I wish they had extended the gameplay video.
Pixel Art Graphics by Henk Nieborg (Lionheart, Flink / The Misadventures of Flink, Lomax...)
I like this game, I use to play it sometimes. The graphics and music are excellent, but the hero sprite it’s a little weird with that small legs, the jumping movements are awful and their respective animations, horrible.
The issue with the hero sprite is that it walks akwardly with an angle towards the viewer. That's not how people walk so it seems unnatural.
Jochen Hippel à la musique.
Very nice!
It looks mice, but the playability is not as good as the graphics. For me it becomes too repetitive and boring after a few minutes, it’s a pitty, it needs more development.
"I AM THE LAW 😼🤘!"
Better than I thought the St was capable of
Very impressive programming and a nice game.
Thanks!
I really like this game, a good and underrated shooter, with some imfluences of Wings of Death / Lethal Xcess. The levels are a bit long, but it doesn’t matter.
I was very impressed by this game when I was a kid, with the images in the magazines. I was lucky, never bought it or played it back in the day, it never arrived to my neightbourhood’s shop.
If you're like me, you would have been disappointed if you bought it back in the days. I didn't enjoyed this game at all.
Yep thsi looks like a NARC clone
looks like a NARC like game
j'ai encore les disquettes 3 pouces 1/2 = fun Atari émulateur à trouver...
European shmups 😢, but ost is always great
These guys programmed it right with smooth scrolling and fast sprites. Didn’t know this one existed. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year! 🎉
Happy new year to you too
That zx spectrum-like background is so underwhelming on ST.
The game had potential to be a good "Flying Shark" kind of game, unfortunately they went with the "Goldrunner" style game, what a pity.
Happy new retrospective year 🎉🎊🎈 2025 from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮 😺👍🕹️! And if i'm lucky, i should switch on my Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 and play the old classic games... again 😹👍🕹️.
Un jeu plutot beau graphiquement. Par contre le vaisseau est lent. Surtout par rapport aux ennemis 😅
Then main person died in ms dos version: no reaction then he is died in atari st version: AAAAAAAAAAAA😭😭
The graphics and colors remind me of SWIV while the game setting feels like Sonic Boom from Sega...
Yes it's very swiv-like
I’ve always thought that this game it’s a SWIV wannabee too, I completely agree. It’s not a bad game, but the movements are too slow.
I remember having the demo version of BEASTLORD for my Amiga 500 many years ago. And it also reminds me of Psygnosis' SHADOW OF THE BEAST games. Meowy retrospective christmas 🎁🎄🎅 and a happy retrospective meow year 2025 from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. 😺👍🕹️
Thank you and happy everything
Jesus... runs at about 10fps.
Just found my st 520 at my dads houses omg I can’t wait to show my little ones what I spent hours playing 😊
Smooth, and the chiptune is actually quite good! You did some pretty impressive moves at the very end dodging that death truck, a pity you splat just after that.
Fast and smooth scrolling
I need to practice it: it's so difficult to control it and I'm not really sure how I can asses proper amount of lunarium
Smooth scrolling that's about it
I prefer SlapFight that was released earlier in the decade
I think we can all agree that this is the only 16-bit version with decent music.
A bit strange that it doesnt work with ordinary STs equipped with blitter. I guess its about expanded color pallete
And hardware scrolling and DMA audio
@@CFalcon030 You mean hardware scrolling is a function separate from blitter? I thought that blitter handles that.
@@fradd182 it's different yes. It's due to the update on the shifter. You can scroll with the blitter though as well. I am not totally sure this game uses hardware scrolling though.
@@CFalcon030 Thanks.
Best racing game ever for the STE by far. Scrolling is super smooth too
Absolutely amazing game, this is what an STE can do. Jonathan Thomas is the guy who made also the Lotus Esprit STE edition, and Pole Position conversion.
Amazing what this guy is capable of
I wanna say a huge thank you to retro racing for this fantastic 2024 STE game. God bless you
Wouah. 😅
Nice to see an STE-caliber game. There were so few during its heyday
