Thank you. How does this tax regime deal with other taxes such as wealth hand inheritance taxes?
Inheritance tax remains the same, limits and tax free areas too. Wealth tax is out, one of the big benefit of the 7 percent is getting the free ticket from that annoying tax
After transferring residence within 18 months to gain the 2% tax benefit for the prima casa, is there a minimum amount of time one must remain a resident to be in compliance? For instance, what happens if they decided to move abroad a few months later?
The commitment should be between 2 to 5 years unfortunately
Hi! I always enjoy your content. I would like to consult your agency. Are you an accountant or lawyer? Thanks.

" unstable ground " No where in the world is stable today November 2024. None of us know where we will be in 3 months, this is why we are all considering living for the now. You cannot learn what life in Italy will be like from Y.T , no predicate value here. I suggest staying for 2 months first as Rigo states, if you can handle it, it's for you, but to reiterate " life , anywhere , is uncertain"
You can live within any country as a "Private National" that is not indentured to the tax system. When you register to become a resident you become legal property of the state that is obligated to the tax codes thereof. RES (property) IDENT (identity, subject, person, thing;legal entity). If you want to lawfully avoid personal tax never contract your Life with the State.
If you're an American citizen, you can't, wherever you live. You are still liable to US taxes.
I always wonder who is counting the days I am in Italy and not in another EU country given that there are open borders and no passport control if I drive in?
They do, they do...
Il grande fratello sta guardando 👀 😮
Hi! I am enjoying your videos. Are you an accountant or attorney? Thanks.
Well, good question. Not an average accountant nor an average attorney. I'm an International tax advisor, with several accolades from Public Entities Thanks for your comment!
Seems very complicated !
Like everything in Italy 😄
Use the correct term: expats = Immigrant or temporary work. Or this term only apply for poor countries?
Two things I wonder about. Is there an age requirement to be considered retired? Also, what if I have a holiday home in northern Italy and want to spend several months there. How much time do I need to spend in my main domicile in a qualifying region to stay compliant with the tax regime?
Good questions! No age requirements, as long as you can consider yourself retired officially. And the latter, more than 183 days registered to the Anagrafe of the city in the South
You make me frightened.... I told you in our online conversation I need you! 😅 I don't only have euros, but also Swiss Francs and at the end Pension Payments from 2 different countries and most likely rental income in Austria.... 😂😢😢😢😢😢 CRAZY stuff, crazy Italy 😱
Italy is take it or leave it 😄 The big problem is to understand the rules from the very beginning. Once you got them, you can plan and file everything properly
That was the reason why I contacted you. Doing it and collecting it correctly in the beginning it is much easier. We will definately see each other again 🤣🙏@@StudioRigo
So if my salary in Liechtenstein is already taxed with 4% in Liechtenstein, then I don't have to pay in Italy anymore?

Interesting comments regarding Australian Superannuation. My take away is that the 0.2% wealth tax applies to Superannuation? Once a year?
Yes and no. There is an exemption provided by the Agenzia delle Entrate, if you can prove that retirement account was/is mandatory, not complementary and solely Gov driven
Great info as always. Thank you
👍
One of my favorite channels that I just found. If I become a tax resident in Italy one day, I'm calling you. One quick question that you may know. I live in the United States. How would my Roth IRA be taxed if I become a tax resident in Italy. It's my understanding that Italy doesn't recognize a Roth IRA, in which all withdrawals here in the U.S. are tax free. Would Italy now tax these withdrawals as income? I heard the legislation on this is very unclear.
Bad news. More likely you'll have to pay income tax on the withdrawal. Plus the wealth tax of 0.2 percent per year on the Roth account balance. How does that sound? Thank you for your feedbacktryour token of appreciation is making our day!
@@StudioRigo I appreciate the reply. Your channel is really great. Yeah, it seems Italy will do everything to keep productive, wealthy people out, that create jobs, but welcome people on migrant boats from shady countries that bring nothing. It's absolutely insane.
I live in New York and getting my Italian citizenship for my family. I love Florence and want to move there. But after so much research, I may just buy a property there and stay maybe 4 months per year, this way I don't have to file an Italian tax return. It seems you need an attorney for everything you do in Italy, and this stuff keeps adding up. Plus, I have an autistic son who will never learn Italian, so I couldn't imagine being dead one day and he's there all alone. I keep hearing nightmares about the healthcare in Italy. The bottom line is that it's a beautiful place, my grandparents were from there, but I think they left for a reason. I'm starting to slowly realize these reasons. The taxes alone on my pension and business would be triple what I pay in the United States. If I moved to Italy, I would probably go from being a millionaire to broke within 10 years.
Thank you. There is a “property finder” for expats that advises : t “ they don’t need to pay taxes. Don’t file.” When I said this is wrong, this person pretty much told me I be quiet and I’m wrong. People are listening to this person. They’re buying property and living in Italy full time. I did not use this service. I’m still looking
These sources of bad information are everywhere. Sadly when bad things happen, they never take responsibility of their own content
Would you be so kind and make a video of what is tax free or very low taxed in Italy? Any setup with foreign companies, investments or trusts?
Thank you
Hi Paolo. Super channel with lots of short form info. If you don't apply for the impatriate regime (hence as a freelancer it's difficult to look more 12 months into the future), how do the taxes and social security payments looks like for a single person freelancer invoicing between €150000 and €170000 plus VAT per year ?
Hard to answer. Feel free to drop a message to studiorigo@gmail.com and we van provide a free toolkit able to give you a ballpark idea of the liability. Free of charge. Thanks for your comment!!!
I'm looking to retire to Italy, and I'm currently working on my citizenship by decent. However, I don't want to wait the expected # of years for that process, and I'm willing to pursue an ERV in order to start my journey earlier. Is it too early to discuss tax strategies with you at my current phase?
Never too early, just remember Italy is very unstable tax wise
My impression italy is a wonderful place to visit as an American with strong dollars and per capita income much higher than the average italian. Not so good if living there on an Italian salary. None of the hundreds of Italian immigrants i grew up with nor my italian grandfather ever bothered moving back. They had their reasons
I was asked about my Austrian tax number to be able to open the bank account in Italy, glad I had it in my emails on my phone, otherwise I would have had a problem.😮 And I overwhelmed the Italian bank clerk by wanting to put 5 x 200 eur notes I just drew from my Austrian account as first installment for direkt debit for upcoming gas, electricity and internet costs for my house... 😮😅😂 Love such small experiences 😂❤
Italy seems to be crazy with taxes 😂😂😂😅😅😅
Great video, i already knew (i am a Dane) that spending more than 6 monthes in Italy a year and having an adress there, do can make me eligble for taxing only in Italy (Denmark has a tax agreement with Italy)
How is working the sweet life?
Good point. Thank you. Italy makes it really really difficult
My Irish accountant told me many years ago that if I took a dividend that I would be taxed at 7% in Italy. I remember reading the trade agreement and it seemed clear back then.
That is correct but it only applies when you move to the qualifying regions in Italy, basically south and east of Naples, Sardinia, Sicily and also some additional areas, and the municipality must have a population of less than 20,000. Do a quick Google on the 7% rules and you'll find tons of detailed info. I'm sure Paolo here would be able to give you the full info and best advice.
Hello. So if you want to leave early, you have to pay penalty and give everything back? what is an interest? We are thinking to move but 5 years is a loong commitment..
Correct. Quid pro quo. 5 years committed for the tax incentive. Sounds unfair?
@@StudioRigo it is fair. It is actually 4 or 5 years? The penalty is the interest to pay or something extra?
5 years. Penalties and fines, unfortunately
@@StudioRigo It is confusing. So difficult to find a proper information on the internet. I found 4 years, but probably it means first year of moving and then 4 following years.
Correct. Usually it's explained as 1+4 (5 in total)
I disagree about fixing your bike brakes - that's potentially more important than tax, so use a professional if you need to!

So what can you do before?🤔
The one task that a lot of people miss, unfortunately. Prepare, prepare and prepare. Work on detailes and do not base any important plans on average information, general advice or superficial overviews
@@StudioRigo got it. First talk to you!😉
Just get it right from the start. I'm resident in Italy now for 10 years. I set up my tax declarations right from the start, declaring assets on the RW form and engaging a professional to complete the annual 73 form. I'm now a citizen here, no problems to date. Just take professional advice from the very beginning to see what your liabilities, rights and responsibilities will be before you decide whether Italy is the place for you.
Well said!
Italian nightmare come true Wealthy gone poor Eye opening reality
Nice to hear the stories from first hand, from Clark Kent himself 😊
We wish we had superpowers to turn back time!
Italy is a socialist country and yes they are baiting foreigners to move there to deal with the falling population and poor economy, however paying over 40% on foreign income, a wealth tax on assets held outside the country, and all of the silly rules on dealing with the immigration department, very aggressive tax authorities, not getting a drivers license without driving for 1 year in a car with a pumpkin sized engine , locals that charge you extra because you are not one of them, and the bureaucracy on any aspect of life makes moving there a bad idea. Ye the pasta and cheese is nice but best to just visit and live somewhere else..
I moved to Italy and was forced to drive a car with the pumpkin engine- it exploded after two months and they threw me out of the country
Hhahahaha!!!
Complete bullshit. I guess I gives you some views.
So...I guess we would have to hire you so that we don't have to go through what they have gone through!!
It's not about hiring X or Y. It's all about getting into details and asking the right questions. Moving to another country is an investment in terms of time and money, the message is do not cut corners and prepare. Prepare. And prepare again!
Yes, I am aware of this fact and I will note this deadline of 18 months and I believe it is after the notary date, isn´t it?
Correct, within 18 months

Yeah, thats why I will never apply for residenza in Italy no matter what the incentives are and even though I own a house there. I understand the german tax regime and prefer paying higher taxes here than being bend over by Salvini and co. who constantly change the laws. In Italy the people are the enemies of the bureaucracy and everybody is guilty until he can proof otherwise. No, grazie!
