Episode 11 Great Team Work
Slow start to the week and only Rebar work you seen enough of that
Then extra workers arrived to start to do shuttering and extending main pillars ready for ring beam pour ( not done yet)
I dodged a big future problem
We seem to have stepped up a pace great team work
I now realise it going to be a BIG
Our gates arrive looking good but usual problem with power for welder so have to wait till steel roof welders return to site fingers crossed they will help
Gate primed and I bought same colours as the Great Wall but in metal paint

Smart catch… cement plugs supporting your cross beams… 👍🏻 Keep watching… you’re your own foreman 👍🏻
qué plan tan interesante, sigamos atentos a los detalles.
Hi keep checking 100% cheers Gary and Mon 50/50
Tie wire sticking out also reduces the concrete cover and will rust .
Hi mate we on that too 👍
Are you going to surprise us later and tell us you are building a space ship? This thing looks wild! But wild in a good way. 20 years ago if you told me to move to a place that had limited electricity to get basic tasks done, my pompous ass would have said hell no! Now I find it common place and I have relaxed into the entertaining Thai lifestyle. This will for sure be a fun build to see! Thanks Gary!
Thank you Greg for your comment , I won't spoil the surprise but we just got our formal planning omission back yesterday You wait till the roof trusses go up😜 I love rural Thailand , Mon only said today our home will be quite just bird and occasional farm vehicle noise , not like our present home lots road noise Cheers Gary and Mon 50/50
or to the doubters (13;30) “ ye of little faith” ! Must say Gary and Mon, you will be well pleased I am not your site manager....those little seat thingys for the rebar to sit on, I would have let slip right through to the keeper. No knowledge can be just as dangerous as a little ?? Going to put concrete tracks in for the gate runners ? Cheers, John
Gary and Mon. Gotta keep checking, sometimes it's the workers, sometimes it's the builder taking shortcuts. With the window they missed on our job, the lady in the team told the leading hand about it but was told she's wrong. When we picked it up she was walking around with a huge grin😅
Good catch on the rebar chairs. What really frustrates me, as you pointed out, they know what they should do, but instead they do it the easy/cheap way, thinking you won't know. SURPRISE!
100% Kenny as I said in the video they knew exactly what should have been done One off the labours told Mon he new it was wrong to do it but couldn't say anything, go figure Cheer Gary and Mon
Hello Garry, I do know what your talking about with the reo support, in the day we made mounds for the concrete spacers, named aspro's, because they kept the reo of the shutters, and didn't cause any headaches
Hi Johnny It took them 20 minute to knock up bit of cement to make ,but they only about 1 baht in global house ready made so cheap but so important been checking shuttering too Cheers Gary and Mon
@GaryMon5050 Diligence is the key
But one could just step over the wall o the left side of the gates 😮
Hi The gap will be closed once the first phase is complete, same size as our wall its only open for the builders to come through. cheers Gary and Mon
You have spend half of the steel in Thailand!! 😂😂 Big home😉
Hi Its all bought the outside space mate cheers Gary and Mon
you can add a remote-controlled swing gate opener for about 5k baht...definitely a blessing in the rainy season ...lol
beautiful little home...perfect for retirement living...plenty of outdoor space as well...I've always liked that smooth finish of the concrete...
Yes Took patterned it too with black and varnished, polished it came up good I pass your comment on to Took cheer Gary and Mon 50/50
Another longer-term investment is Teak trees...you can plant up to 200 per rai...trimming and culling will net about 100 of those to growth harvest...in just ten years they can fetch about 30k per tree...that's 3 million baht for 100 trees...or what is 300k per annum value...(maybe more as price rises or less trees are culled) again another low maintenance investment after the first few years...clearing underbrush and trimming low branches the first few years then let it grow...seeds are about 5 baht each...200 trees is 1000 baht but ideally you buy 4x to insure they sprout and pick the healthy ones for planting....you can register the trees for about .25 baht each to prove ownership...registering earlier is better even if some die or need to be culled...again the purchaser will harvest the trees for that price although stump removal may cost more unless you find a stump buyer...other hardwood trees can also fetch a good price but may take longer to grow....of course the added bonus is trees are beautiful and you can even plant them or cull them into a hiking trail on your land..
Speaking of profits...I think you'll find that fish are going to be the best investment...dig a hole 30m square 3 meters deep...Tilapia are about .5 baht to 1.5 baht for the babies depending on size...when grown they will fetch 60-80 baht per kilo depending on size...some big ones sell for 100 baht but most people don't like to buy those...the 60 baht a kilo fish price is usually 2 average fish per kilo sometimes one...if you put 10,000 fish in the pond selling at low for 60bht you make 300,000 in about a year...fish food early months protein added two bags about 800 a month then 400 a month a bag continuing after adult...so about 5600 baht in food per year...harvesting the fish again can be done by the people who want to buy the fish at 60bht per kilo...different fish species can fetch a higher price...in comparison to farming wide swaths of land fish will beat it nearly every time...food and babies together costs about 20k baht from profits so 280,000 per annum...things that can effect that amount include loss do mortality, birds, snakes...about 5% so about another 15k baht now you're at 265k baht...best part if this is a low maintenance operation...you can even have an autofeeder for the food...just load the bin bag once a month...
There are many variables when thinking of earning money on the farmland....as we get older it's those labor intensive ones that can kill ya...lol...although we know that we simply pay out of the profits for the management and harvest of everything...but I think there is also value in watching it grow but that's just me...
I am looking at finding this magic neash that give the best rewards and profit but working with aging in-laws and youngsters that have little more no interest in farming I look into teak trees Craig cheers Gary and Mon
Good to know about the windmills...we were there recently...first time I think I've ever seen windmills on that scale in Thailand...we used to live in the desert in California and has loads of them...
farmer don't get great deal for them on there land though, we also have wind farms in the Uk not farm where we live getting common as he world heads toward renewable energy cheers Gary and Mon
If there’s a drainage issue build an open concrete channel next to your fence .and add a piece of metal on top for removal to clean it out. 10 inch wide channel is enough. Keep it open so you can easily get the dirt out. Flat plate with a few 3/4 inch holes will allow easy removal. 1/4 plate 3 ft long for easy access and removal. Adjust size for practical application
Buy rock and raise the road as much as they will let you . Keep the ramp at a minimum. I had to address a similar problem someone else created. Small cars and wave motor bikes don’t have a lot of clearance. We have a track with a rolling gate
Hi Mate Thanks for your comments very helpful I enjoy little projects to keep me active ,but do understand about cheap labour The gates hopefully you will see next video are swing gates I have a lot off hard core around the site that I intend to use in ramp construction Your suggestion of concrete channel with grate on top👍 Cheers Gary and Mon 50/50😎
Labor is to cheap in Thailand to be doing that work at your age. Do exercises to stay in physical condition. I just paid 6000 bhat to have a guy do three days of tree removal
Yes, great look...those supports look particularly nice once treated.
Hi John I will pass on your comment👍
I am so proud of you gary, we need more people like u in this world. I have so much respect for you.
Hi Sweatpea Really kind words thank you ❤ Hope you and snowflake are keep warm and well during the cold winter snap you are having best wishes Gary and Mon 50/50
Nice home. Love those beams.
Hi Greg I pass on your comment 👍
Hey Gary, your posts look good. Are you sure you did that, or Rak? lol! Just kidding, everything is looking good and looking forward to them getting back to work.
Hi Kenny The funny thing I did 3 year coarse building and construction in Uk with view to changing careers from Cab driver , whilst they do things different here in Thailand the principles are the same . I had a lot off people stopping to watching me work🤣 cheers Gary and Mon
Another good video Gary.
Happy New Year, don't forget there is always wrap, any color you like
That true hadn't thought about doing that Happy New year to you and yours too Gary and Mon
Makes me want to go on a diet just so I can eat some of that fresh lettuce!
We do eat a lot off lettuce 😜
The Isaan scaff is a wonderous thing. The first time I saw it I thought "surely not" but they did and still do
Good way to use old T shirts 🤣 Happy New year Gary and Mon 50/50
Wached all your videos last week enjoyed hope to see on the allotment in the spring
Hi Roger we plan to be back mid March please come and say hello Happy New year to you and your Gary and Mon 50/50
Good work with all the painting, Gary. Personally I'd go with just two colours, one for the fencing boards, one for all the concrete areas. For ease of painting, and for contrast. But I'm sure you'll get a great effect and be happy with the impact.
Hi mate Thanks for your comment We are going to live with them till after house build finished next year as mammoth task to do all the wall Happy New year to you and your Gary and Mon 50/50
Absolutely love the colour and love the name to
Hi Katie Thanks for that Happy New year to you and mum see you soon Gary and Mon
Happy New Year everyone in Thailand
Those green colours of the fence are not my style. But they do look really good together. 😊
Thanks Mate We are going to live with them till after the build finished next year Mammoth painting project to do all walls Happy New year to you and yours Gary and Mon 50/50
Loving this shape! This should be interesting! Happy New Year!
Hi Greg I hope it as good as I visualised in my head Happy New year to you and yours Gary and Mon 50/50
Gary it's okay to profit off of your videos that way you can make more videos and more people can watch your contents
Hi Mike Sincere thanks for your comment Happy New year to you and yours Gary and Mon 50/50
Gary I hope you're did a mistake on the year because you put 2025 and it's still 2024 I hope you're not one of those Time travelers
Hi Mike I do make occasional mistake ,. I wish I could time travel mate , there's a few thing I would like to revisited and enjoy again Marrying Mon very happy day in my life , happiness ever since 🥰 Happy New year Gary and Mon 50/50
Gary I love watching the piledriver work as simple as it is what does a very important job
Hi Mike I sat and watched it all day as I said Amazing Very skilled crew Happy New Year Gary and Mon 50/50
Nice house so far. No need for the loud music.
Cheers John I bear it in mind next video Happy New Year Gary and Mon 50/50
I think I’m liking the colours GaryandMon.....must confess had to think a bit, but might be on a roll (pun intended) here.!!!lol must say, the speed at which you paint Im surprised the paint doesn’t dry on the roller ?? just saying. Otherwise looking great. cheers John p.s. geez that’s one big load of rebar !!! hope its installed right side up ! Very best wishes to you both for 2025 and beyond.
Cheers John I was holding camera , the rest I wizzed along Regarding Rebar if we hadn't checked with architect it wouldn't be enough re episode 8 missing page on the plans Thanks for you kind words Happy New year to you and yours Gar and Mon 50/50
Hey Gary, what the Hex going on? Lol. House is coming alone nicely.
Hi Kenny Next few day quite but I am busy on project few beers tomorrow night around village boss who live next door Happy New year to you both Gary and Mon
G'day mate. Good to see progress on your build. Hope you have great Xmas and New Year. Our builders are on their last day before break so all quiet on our site as of COB today.
Thanks Paul been working today on preparation for our gate so bit knackered , concrete mixing tomorrow with Mon then party few beers around village boss who live next door cheers Gary and Mon
Sorry Happy New Year to you both
Have you got a allotment in cambridge
Mon and I have allotment in Chesterton Cambridge ?😎👍
never understood the main premise of the video - disjointed, rambled
Nice 👍
Good stuff, I did not know they burned before harvesting. No cane in our area. Thanks Gary.
They haven't burnt cane in Australia for decades. But this is not Australia 🙂
That's same as Uk they are allowed to burn straw from wheat barley etc for decades We don't have the weather for Sugar cane cheers Gary and Mon
Actually they do. I originated from the Tweed Valley, and the "new" residents of the area complain about the smell and black "snow" from burning. Being now in the big smoke, I miss the lovely smell. Other reasons for burning, it gets rid of the snakes and rodents, less trash into the harvester machine, and the heat helps release the sugar for mill processing. Cutting was done over here 4 - 6 weeks ago.
@stevemurnane1892 ok I thought they banned the practice years ago.
@@stevemurnane1892 they get less money per ton too There are harvesters that cut un burnt green sugar cane We have cane 25 metres from where we build our house too cheers Gary and Mon 50/50
I think they don't have money for harvester so they have to burn them 🤔
Good catch, proving it pays to be on top of your build. Learning to read and understand the plans is the part most people don't take the time to do. Here it paid big. Good job!
Yes Mate I have studied them with Mon and translated most off it too I am paying good money for something special cheers Gary and Mon
Very interesting and good pick up by you Gary. We built a house here (in Aus). in 2012... Officialy, (in the contract) we were not allowed on the build site unless accompanied by the foreman but we use to pop in after the men had gone home in the evenings and do a walk around. Wouldn’t have picked any detail like you did, because wouldn’t know what I was looking for/at !! lol. Our sight was locked/padlocked every day, but we discovered a hole in the fence....Cheers, John
Hi John I just keep checking and asking questions, Mon maybe get bit fed up ,but she understands how important it is to get right . Mon has here hard earned money invested too in what will be our forever home thanks for your great comment Gary and Mon 50/50
G'day Gary and Mon. It all looks good. We had 20mm reo arrive and I mentioned that I wasn't sure where it would go but studied the plans and found it. Not sure if they ordered too much but they installed it where it was spec'd as well as a couple of extra sections. Just need to be aware of the plans and engineering.
Hi Paul To right mate , I just keep looking and checking and asking question . I am on site every day if not all day but at some point and every evening I walk around to see what's been done . Mon and I also go and say Hi i to workers on site to see if they ok and need anything Great to see your coming along too mate Cheer Gary and Mon
