Comics and Lit is the project of English teacher and cartoonist Robert Simpson. I use my own, hand drawn cartoons alongside famous literary texts to summarise and analyse them for students and teachers!
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
My illustrated reading of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost.
Perhaps Robert Frost’s most renowned poem, ‘The Road Not Taken’ is a narrative poem which draws upon themes such as choice and individualism, centring around the narrator’s hesitation when having to choose between two equally worn tracks in a ‘yellow wood’. Many have interpreted the poem as a celebration of following your own path in life-it was famously quoted by Robin Williams’ character Mr Keating in the film Dead Poet’s society. Keating triumphantly states “Two roads diverged in a wood and I / I took the one less traveled by / And that has made all the difference.’” urging his students to extoll the benefits of choosing your own path in life.
In actuality Robert Frost's poem is much more ambiguous. The narrator contradicts themselves within the lines of the poem, admitting that both roads had been worn about the same’. Thus, when the narrator reflects that their choice made ‘all the difference’ it is ironic. The narrator is revealed as self-deceiving, glorifying a simple decision to emphasise their own individualism.
As always, any comments and feedback is appreciated.

Dystopian Short Comic - 'Higher Things'
มุมมอง 949 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Something a little different to kick off 2025! This is a short comic story which I drew based on a plot line devised by my friend Pete Connelly. We submitted it for the Observer/Faber graphic short story prize in 2024. (See below for details.) Sadly, we didn’t win. But I’m really proud of the story we’ve told and I think I’ve pushed my artwork to new levels on this one. It’s set in a dystopian ...

I love it: best interpretation out there.

Watching from India ❤
Could you possibly do some stuff on the iGCSE syllabus- specifically Of Mice and Men? Your Romeo and Juliet vids rlly helped, and I’d appreciate the help again! :)
Wonderful video, friend! I've been enamored of this poem for many years. It's so indicative of the time today and the hubris of the so called " leaders" who usurp power! Yes, Ramses II was not voted in. But Donald Trump was... again in 2024, voted in as POTUS. If that vile, smug, smarmy, sneer Trump so often exhibits were placed upon the visage in the sand and the name, "Trump" replaced, "Ozymandias", this great poem would further serve as enlightenment to future generations to beware the destruction that comes with hubris and pride!!
Thank you!!!!!!
Thanks to you, I got a 83% on my English test by only watching this vids
