Dr. Riddick Demonstrates How to Make Duct Tape Boot for Horse Hoof
มุมมอง 35K7 ปีที่แล้ว
A duct tape boot is often used to cover a horse’s foot that has a sole abscess, bruise or wound to the sole. At times, a vet or farrier might create a hole in the sole to promote drainage of an abscess. A bandage is applied to keep the sole clean and dry, and possibly maintain contact between the wound and an antiseptic or poultice. How long the hoof should be bandaged depends on a number of fa...

I was always taught to wrap any bandage with the bandage direction rolling the tendon in. Even when it’s not a pressure wrap. Doing all wraps this way is good practice to avoid any possibility of bowing a tendon. Left side counter clockwise right side clockwise, and only pulling the bandage from bone and then wrap around tendon with light pressure, and so on…it makes total sense to me. Any thoughts?

To add duarability and if you have time to cure, you can put lines of Liquid Nails on what will be the bottom surface. You may want to prepare that several hours before you place it.

I tried this today. The overlapping made it so stiff it wouldn't bend around the hoof, and because it had already been stuck to something, it wasn't sticky enough to adhere on the hoof. What a bust. Had to start completely over and do it the way we've done them before.

Can putting the tape on the hooves to go on a trail ride provide some protection?

Helpful to a point, but would have been nice to see how it's actually applied and secured.

If you cut it with the sticky side up, it works a lot better... rather than fighting with the tape stuck to the table.

This is great. I've never seen this before and it looks like it will hold up as well as anything you would purchase for a lot more money. Thank you for posting this one as I will be using this method from now on instead of the wrapping the tape around the hoof. I can see this being so very useful for several applications from as abscess to a cracked hoof. Thanks again.
