I had the fortune to do an internship with Marc at the Eat Side Sound Studio in NYC, and I can't say enough about how great he is. I can say that Marc is an hard worker and dedicated man, just assisting him will teach you more than thousand words. You can fill his passion and love for his job. I can't forget how generous he was with me, he would bring me to watch shows and invite me to nice restaurant while he would tell many beautiful stories about all the great artist that he has worked with ( Lou Reed, Zorn etc...). The man is a legend.
Its hard to apply these methods to a home studio where i rely on guitar plugins etc. However it does make me think that i need creative ways to develop different sounding guitars. For example record my guitar into a plugin, stick a mic at the bottom of my stairs, and record the play back of the guitar. I did that once but with a drum kit being played live, suddenly the drums sounded like they were in a big room.

Great content. One of my biggest hurdles I’ve found is being in a small city, bands don’t want to spend money or take time to go through different mics, instruments and takes. They just want to set up go.

Ahhh, just like stories from my youth. Back in 1984, learning about all these amazing ribbon mics. Most of them were already “old” back then. But NOW? It’s simply amazing that any of them still even exist! Great talk, this is GOLD! Thanks for doing this Joe. 😎👍👍

The Beyerdynamic m130 is a great double ribbon mic for m/s recording with another cardioid
didn't Forssell design the AEA ribbon pre? I unfortunately only have one but his SMP500 is probably the finest mic amp I've ever used - and I shot it out against a Gordon Model 5 that the guy I bought it from had, running a pristine KMi84 recording a Lester DeVoe acoustic.

I have only done one substantial mic investment, the R88 and the TRP1. The bass is insane, and it keeps the drum tuning honest. No going back.
