I am a passionista of rhythm, drumming, music making, Mother Earth and well-being. My videos are tutorials for djembes, dunduns, buffalo drums, flutes and more, with which I aim to support those that drum with me, and to inspire anyone that comes across them. I facilitate circles and workshops, and some of the videos that I upload are snippets of those, plus performance clips, and more!

A play-along chant duet for Native American (style) flute players
มุมมอง 224ปีที่แล้ว
A simple chant duet for Native American (style) flute players, particularly for the Rhythm Harmony Flute Circlers, but also for anyone else who may enjoy playing along with me. Playing in the style of a chant means playing the same short phrase repeatedly - this is a very meditative and relaxing way to play. It works well together with other flute players too. DREAMTIME has two parts for flutes...
14th August 2023 - our Eastern Mediterranean Experience!

A snippet from our Djembe Drumming session in Burnham-on-Sea on 14th August 2023. We played a NINE beat rhythm on our djembes and had a little fun by putting a dance step to it, adding in tambourines on beats 1,3,5 and 7 ... not the 'pulse' that we are used to! Even though we weren't taking ourselves too seriously (at all!), it's an interesting "whole" feel when you learn and play a beat on you...

This crew of Rhythm Harmony Djembe Drummers were invited to kick start proceedings at The Friends of Burnham Community Centre Garden Party in Somerset on Saturday 5th August 2023. The weather on the day was wet and windy (Boooo!) so the event was relocated to inside the Community Centre, but this didn't stop the enjoyment of the many people that attended and were served with cream teas and cake...
DJEMBE passport #1 - 🐀
มุมมอง 664ปีที่แล้ว
An 'essential' djembe rhythm pattern, aka 'catch the rat, gonna' or even 'roo giraffe, kanga' - this common accompaniment crops up loads as is well worth getting to grips with. It's not particularly exciting on it's own, but is great fun to weave with other players' rhythms. Rhythm Harmony Djembe Drummers will recognise this from several of our 'pieces', including Merengue, Kuku, Abissa, and mo...

fabulous xx
You, guys, have just too much fun! 🥰
love love love
I lean toward the 22 inch size in the buffalo style. But the idea that it could get heavy does concern me.
Gracias por compartir Suzanne
Great work ladies! Thankyou.
Thank you :)
This is so much harder than I thought. But this is exactly what I needed thank you
It's a really good way to hone several of our skills - and yes, it is quite a challenge! Thank you for leaving a comment. Happy flute playing x
Cool
Very nice!
Thank you Suzanne , i just found your channel and i want to thank you for this vid.I recieved my first Tongue Drum yesterday. I am having areally fun time with my 8 notes and your beats here are fun and very helpful and i love the pace you use as i can stop the vid and try what you are teaching and seee your hand movements as well. Thank you and i will be looking up more of your content. My drum is a 14 inch with 8 tongues notes and a center large tongue. I want toget longer mallets as you pointed out for posture.I had my 3rd foot surgery and im on our bed alot right now and i am thankful for my drum fun and your knowedge here. Have a good day!
This is lovely to read - thank you for leaving a comment. I hope that you are still enjoying making music on your tongue drum - and also that you have recovered well from your surgery. (I am always promising myself to make more videos .. my content is currently rather limited.) Best wishes go you.
i was looking for a good tutorial for my hapi drum❤❤finally got one thank you so much❤
Great tutorial, thank you so much
Thank you very much. This was very helpful! I am a singer songwriter who was looking for a compact vegan drum I can take via trains when touring and the 12 inch is a great start for me :)
Glad it was helpful :) Enjoy!
No disrespect but where did these Instructors get their credentials what master drummer and how long did they study with him before deciding to give instructions this should be listed at the beginning of the video then it would let me know and others this person has the knowledge to teach African drumming, having some knowledge about music notation is good but in Africa it’s about the culture the story behind the rhythms and the individual playing the djembe again no Disrespect, just looking to see what a person experience is when giving djembe lessons or for that matter any musical instructions peace keep the drumming alive.
Thank you for leaving a comment. As stated, this video is intended for the benefit of the 'Rhythm Harmony Drummers' which is a group in the UK, serving as a reminder for what we play at the 'real life' sessions together, for those folks keen to practise at home. (And also of course for anyone else who may find it here on TH-cam and enjoy it!) We drum in the sprit of joy in music making and togetherness, in the knowledge that we are not emulating African drummers, but that our play is inspired by the magic of the Djembe Drum, and an appreciation of the rich culture embedded in the rhythms. My ethos is that drumming and music making be a fun shared experience, accessible to all, (hence the use of the 'say it and play it' technique, and very simple notation), sharing the joy and healing that drumming brings.
Ur a great teacher
Thanks ❤
Looks like you are having fun! 😎
It was fun yes :)
Useful information! Thank you for posting!
I am very attracted towards metallic sounds and finally, I got my first musical instrument. Randomly playing for the last week filled me with positive energy and peace. The kind of gravity I felt after playing even for 5 minutes a day is unexplainable. This tutorial has helped me to learn to create patterns!! Loved it
This is really good to read, thank you for commenting. We are so often drawn towards exactly the sounds that we need to nurture and nourish our wellbeing. Enjoy your playing :)
I decorate mine, too on the rim , acrylic paint, the leather pieces in sort of collage . I, too am shy of painting what I drum on.
Could you tell me where you got the blue rimmed buffalo drum. At "the guitar center where I live they only had one Remo 16in drum with indentation for thumb and no beater. I got it. I do like the smaller 12 inch buffalo drum. The 16 in I got is fiberskyn drum. I use it with mu intuitive chant singing and poetry. The lighter lift hold the better.
Hi - I put the blue decoration on the drum myself, using decoupage and acrylic paint. Yes - the smaller Buffalo Drums are nice and lightweight, yet still have a powerful sound. I buy my drums mostly online (very hard to find in shops near where I live) - 'Sound Travels' is a good website, and 'Thomann' often stock these drums too. There are basically two different types of frame drum, one of which is the Buffalo, aka hoop drum or shamanic drum. These are intended to be played with a beater, and will have some sort of handle or grip on the back made of rope or wood. The other type of frame drum - of which there are many variations - will usually have an indentation for the thumb, and no hand grip on the back, and is not supplied with a beater. These are intended to be played with the hands (fingers). Hope this helps. Enjoy your drumming - and chanting too :)
Thanks so much. I just purchased my first 8 note Tounge Drum.. this tutorial was an absolute blessing thank you. You explained it all so very easy and simple
Aw that's great to read - Thank you for leaving a comment. Enjoy :)

Very, very helpful! After watching this tutorial I immediately could start improvising on my little Akebono tank drum and it was a real pleasure. Thanks a lot 🌺 !
Super - thank you for leaving a comment. Happy music making!
Thanks
Had a golden eagle come to me in my dream and Landed on my left shoulder. It began rubbing ever so softly against my face and neck. Was overwhelmed with love like I've never felt before . I now consider blessed and feel it has become my friend and totem .
A beautiful and powerful dream.
