Try to find a star today with the musical accompaniments of Ottis at age 26, also realize that he was a devoted husband and father of three. Much of today’s youth is still working minimum wage jobs, living with their parents, and playing video games at that age. His accomplishments at such a young age are astounding especially given they were achieved during such a turbulent time in the fight for racial equality. Ottis was what today is called an influencer.
Pretty sure this was from a local tv show in Cleveland, so it's the next to last performance. Does anyone know if any footage of the concert exists? God I miss Otis! What a master!
So, I volunteered to do some work for a project that helped painted inside of homes in 8th grade called Project Action. I remember that an old friend and I were painting a room and hearing the news that he died. So strange for a memory but I remember that particular time and his hit Sitting at the Dock of the Bay. What was also interesting was that this volunteer work was in Venice California. Now Venice has multi million dollar homes but then had a lot of poor people or hippies living in very old homes.
This reminds me of the days I was growing up with my elder brothers during my early years of the mid sixties upto early years of seventies, I miss my long gone brothers, sad indeed, anyway,.......hmmmmm, gone are the days.
Fantastic! I heard about the 45 record this was recorded on as a promo. The musicians are studio players. The radio show "That Driving Beat" WXOX Louiville, KY played the song in August 2024. I missed what they said about the guitarist- who he was.
As a Clevelander a little information... This footage (videotape) is from the dance show called "Upbeat".The host was Don Webster who was also our weather man on WEWS TV 5. This is RARE because most of the Upbeat episode was erased during this time (Process called wiping) in order to reuse videotape once a show that already aired.Plus that this is in color is really RARE because most tapes were in black and white (ie American Bandstand). A friend of mine said his last show was at Leo's Casino that night. Jet magazine have the pictures of the accident Dec. 14, 1967 issue.
