Boba Life. American in Taiwan
Taiwan
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ต.ค. 2020
I'm a Taiwanese American that grew up in Southern California and have moved back to Taiwan to Taipei in 2012. Join me and my wife as we explore Taiwan's night markets, popular and hidden destinations.
We'll explore Taiwan's Night Markets, street foods and travel scene. Along with the popular places in Taiwan, over time we'll go in depth to many places other youtubers never visit since we know most of the local and hidden spots and are able to explore smaller towns and far away villages that need a car to reach. Taiwan is a magical island with tens of thousands of temples, shrines, amazing food, endless 7-11s and boba shops and vending machines.
I'll give you my perspective having lived in both countries for many years.

Idiots people made this place popular. This is the worst beef noodle and place. No water no tea not napkins no service. Only take cash no credit card. Soup is like water no taste. Expensive for junk foods. First time and is our last time. All the good reviews are lies and bs. Should not listen ti these videos about this place. People never honest to bad foods and places.
I've been there last October, the place is amazing but you have to prepared for a long walk☺️❤️
Why don’t you give some coins the old man in the streets?
When my first go to Taiwan I look your video .. now we plan for to Taiwan for south of Taiwan 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
this is a helpful video! I've put big tea pot restaurant onto my itinerary for my upcoming taipei trip :)
is it better to come here in the afternoon or morning?
I think either is fine, some stores may not open until 11am
Nanjichang is definitely one of my favorite night markets. I like the new soup dumplings store. And the two old stores in the front. Chicken store on the right, and pork store on the left.
Cool I'll check it out next time Im there.
I have been to Jiufen many times and as a fellow Taiwan TH-camr and a new subscriber. Your video capture the essence of Juifen so beautifully. Keep up the amazing work! Looking forward to more adventures on your channel.
Glad you enjoyed it! Nice to meet another TH-camr in TW
Hi can i ask, how much did u spend in jiufen ?, im about to go to taiwan so i need to know how much i can spend my money there, thankyou
@@amelhania2028 Hey there! Thanks for your comment and interest in my Jiufen experience. I'm excited for your upcoming Taiwan trip! In Jiufen, I spent around 1000-1500 NTD (roughly $30-50 USD) per visit on food, snacks, and small souvenirs. This covered trying various street foods, a sit-down meal, and some shopping. Prices can vary depending on your preferences, but Jiufen is generally affordable. Remember, budgets can differ for everyone. I'd suggest planning a bit extra just in case you find some special items you love. Enjoy your time in Taiwan, and feel free to ask if you need any other tips!
Love this and your maokong vlog. You guys really know how to enjoy yourselves and film a cute vlog :D I will take these recommendations for my upcoming trip~

I bought a big slice of Castella cake from him too when I visited Tam Shui. Love to go back to Taiwan for a visit. Beautiful country.
Miaoli is Northern Taiwan not Southern Taiwan. FYI Taichung is literally "Taiwan Middle" it's a very easy indicator of directions. 😮
Tamsui is underrated...I enjoyed it much more than Juifen
Hi, what is the name of the first 2 places, is it considered vegetarian??
Uuyyy que rico
We plan to go there this coming Sunday
Which is better: Kura or Sushiro?
Kura is better, but both are good
Was it worth the trip to danshui? Going to Taipei next week.
Ningxia is well known for 5 Michelin star award stalls out of 100+. Some travel videos do present those stalls.
Nice ❤👍
Thanks!
0:22 name of food?
Its called a Ren Bing..
14:36 Local restaurant is a bargain. A lot of dishes only cost you $19 for four people.
I appreciate the honest review!! Too many other food reviewers think EVERYTHING is amazing.
Yes, a lot of food in Taiwan is actually just ok, I think the food used to taste better in the past but many stores take short cuts and cheaper ingredients now
Thanks for the information
Hi what is the name of the similar hotpot restaurant in Taichung?
Teahouse is a tourist trap ..pass on it folks
I miss your captions telling us what it is... and your ratings telling us how good it is!
Great video! Love the descriptions and the ratings on the food items! I'm a new subscriber.
Thanks for the sub!
Excellent food!
I ate here often and the beef noodles and food was delicious!
Really great videos. Gave me ideas for my trip there next month. Can I ask do the vendors only accept cash? They accept credit cards?
Hi Joby, the street food vendors only accept cash. If its a store they might accept credit card
8:30 Buddha Head hotpot restaurant has recently closed for good.
What? A Christmas parade in April? Are you 4 months behind in your content editing? Looks like lesson learned to skip the side dishes and just order fish head tofu soup. Thanks again for all you do. Have a great spring summer.
Yes sorry, this is from Xmas! Been really busy with the baby boy.

Taiwanese food is the best in the world. There is a reason y people call Taiwan 🇹🇼 food paradise.
Definitely, different towns in Taiwan have different specialties too. Like one town is known for Oysters, some for breads etc
Super cool👍
Thanks for watching!
Good to see new content 👍
Thank you for watching!
Hello! When was this video taken? I was shocked because there weren't a lot of people when you went. Can I also ask what time of the day you arrived?
Hi Kat, this was during the time when Taiwan was closed to travelers abroad due to covid. It would be way different now.
Oohhh that's whyyy! Thank you so much! We will be going the first week of May (May 1-7). Do you know how the weather will be in Taipei/Taiwan by that time?
@@katbartolome6784 Usually May is the best month to visit, You have the best chance of the weather being mild in May, not hot and no rain. Taipei and northern Taiwan is like top 5 rainiest places in the world.... it rains as much as the Amazon, more than Singapore, Saigon, Jakarta etc...but May should be dry. Once you go to the middle/south the its usually sunny
@@BobaLifeTaiwan Thank you so much! It'll be our fifth time to visit Taiwan. We were supposed to go in February 2020, but the pandemic happened. Everything got canceled. Now we've made sure that Taiwan will be the first place we go after the lockdowns. So excited! We love Taiwan <3
@@katbartolome6784 wow 5 times, thats great... Things are definitely getting busy again here. I noticed the past month when I go out I've started seeing a few tourists again and a lot of popular places are full of people.

Wow, so beautiful! for some reason, watching the segment at the yao yue teahouse as you all were preparing tea made me tear up <3 our time on our planet is finite, i hope i can take my aging parents here one day

Beef noodle costs almost $20? That's even more expensive than here in America 😜 Is there something wrong?
It was $20 for the 3 dishes, Beef Noodle, the rice intestines and the wontons
Thanks for the clarification. But how much for the beef noodle alone 😉, $18? That's not cheap at all in China.
