I noticed that Steve had bandaged two of his fingers in E2, in E3 they were fine, but now in E4 another bandage. I'm guessing Steve isn't going to be applying to join master chef anytime soon.
Champion series, would love to see more made
Drax. probably the biggest Greenwashing operation in the world
Those bean tins must be sharp, your bandage skills came in handy there. Safety gloves should be warn.
hi it is skye wallace
“Jess knows this place like the back of her hand”. Jess wears a blue hard hat so she clearly doesn’t go trackside very often!
couldve done without the cheap sounding royalty free music and the drone shots are overkill. balance it out with some hand held and locked off shots.
Closing all the local coal mines to bring wood chipping from the other side of the world at great coast to the environment and tax payer back handers. What a complete farce. Corruption at its finest.
Good series thank you. Do you have plans on producing a video about silica sand coming out of Middleton Towers (which is used in glass production). Understand its between 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes per day six days a week.
This has been a brilliant series. And while the importing goods from China is subjective. Never the less its great to see more goods going by rail.
I always find the trucks of the road number to be a bit of a fake spin in these things Drax would not be were it is if the was not rail there (it was a coal PS with a pit almost next door ) if the was no rail it could be done by cannal and barge most fual in europe travils by river and cannal or what maybe the future anyway you build the plant at the dock and the ships feed the fual stright into the furnices .....
Just like nearby Ferrybridge when they were operational plus Eggborough canal and road could not supply the demand these newer style stations needed
Interesting topic / Shit script & weak presenter
You should of used Daniel from Asheville as your front man he love trains and as the come into he’s yard in London
Yeah, reminds me of the corpach paper mill trains that used to run, what goes around comes around.
Yup 76% less energy than road transport I've prove it on my own in Doncaster works open day a pair of railway wheels and moved it with just my finger that's about the same weight of a family car try moving a family car with one finger no chance that's on level ground by the way
I love this livery, loved it so much it's on my TH-cam header
You can dump a lot of nappies in that hole…..
Great explainer, thanks. The impressive rail operation at Drax is the 2020s version of British Rail's impressive MGR concept, albeit arranged around imported rather than local fuel. It's not a railway issue, of course, but biomass (especially as imported on such a huge scale) has questionable carbon-neutral credentials. Still, it's handy to have somewhere like Drax especially on winter days like now when the wind ain't blowing and the sun ain't shining!
And to think not so many years ago freight drifted away from railways to roads and wondered why the roads are full crazy
I wish they’d let me get a job on the railway, I’ve got no skills tho
I do wonder why "Freight on rail" is "so important" to make this video but to my knowledge not one of the key UK Container Ports has an electrified rail connection. Its that important that the rail operating companies have over 600 diesel locos. QED
Here’s hoping the Class 88 and Class 99 bi-mode locomotives will help to make better use of electrified routes.
BioMass the biggest con on the planet.
Renewable but most polluting
@Thomas Kemp cut down trees to produce it ship it across more polluting than coal ever was.
We’ll see how fluid movement is once uk govt implements the customs checks they must however much they’re pretending they don’t exist atm. Customs checks are a requirement under the WTO now uk isn’t a part of the eu. That just isn’t happening. I wouldn’t hold my breathe on that rosy outlook.
but they still send containers by road from felixstowe to south wales every day so how is that helping cut carbon i know as im a trucker
It’s been taking far too many decades for East-West Rail to get off the ground.
Could you do the freight escape at Liverpool Biomass
Should of double tracked the whole branch.
And electrified it .
We take everything for granted these days. Good to see the scale and importance of these operations.
Worked from and office for Seawheel based here when the terminal opened 67ish.
Brilliant series.Good to see the unbelievable scale of these operations. We all take everything for granted these days.
I'm enjoying these videos but please loose the sub titles ....
No don't, as deafies like me will struggle
I hope that these videos are being used to educate students in geography lessons
This is the most corporate video I've seen in a long time, and its really bad. It doesn't explain anything, It's as vague with answers as the government are. "We've taken 30,000 tons of carbon off the road." I want to know how many trucks that is, not tons.
And they make no mention of how many tons of carbon the locomotives put out, sure it is less than road transport but by how much. Over all the world is not reducing for example how much is it increasing importing more coal thousands of miles to make the steel possibly 30,000 tons.
You have got to have achieved the record for the amount of “Industry speak” “Buzzwords “ inside a short film 😀
This has to be a video that only internal management would get excited about. I bet they had a presentation event to watch it and all pat each other on the back.
Forget the cheesy buzz words, just supply affordable energy for the bill payers.
Why is the presenter track side wearing trainers? He clearly didn't follow the task risk control sheets.
Safety trainers. U get them in all works now. Sorry to burst the bubble.
Why does railfreight not challenge this "29% of containers move by rail figure"? YES, as containers lifted this is a true figure, but containers moved by rail travel considerably further than those moved by road. Multilply the 29% by the kms that those boxes travel, and 29% of boxes lifted becomes more than 50% of container freight MOVED. This is the figure railfreight should be quoting for Felixstowe and every other deepsea port. I feel I have been banging my head on a brick wall over the years stressing this!
Well said .
I needed to know why don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the new abandoned underground stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers. A Stock Train and 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it bigger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into a High-Speed train? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train station in Chingford could they extend the DLR? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique minor no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, the Prime Minister of Sweden, the Prime Minister of Germany, the Prime Minister of Italy, the Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.
What are you on about?
Crazy, you are plain crazy.
Up there with the very best of TH-cam comments. Also great to see some of my DB Cargo colleagues on this video.
After watching all these videos one thing stands out... There are so many guys with fancy job titles no doubt on large salaries for doing bugger all what a farce no wonder goods are so expensive....
....and women, who seem highly [ deliberately for inclusivity targets?] prominent in the parade of managers in this series. My buzzword bingo card filled up very quickly. The presenter is brilliant, unlike his mostly rather wooden interviewees.
Non of this is sustainable under a Tory Government.
How do you come to the conclusion that they’re doing “bugger all”?
aaand right there in one sentence showing you know absolutely bugger all about doing anything.
Just caught this today and watched all 5 videos. Amazing series so far so keep them coming!
Great video
Jolly good, BUT what about 'Just in Time' operations? Basically that's the nature of manufacturing today, it has to be highly reliable and I question whether rail can deliver the reliability required.
Rail is the MOST reliable when properly managed
so I hear alot these days about "final mile" diesel and how important this is to electric freight services.. what I dont understand is how the old principle of exchange sidings with shunters isnt mentioned more.. I wonder if battery shunters are sufficient as a means to power from electrified sidings to rail head terminal in a manner that more resembles the past. Currently diesels run the full length of country because felixstowe needs a diesel and yet exchange sidings exist at Ipswich.. also at ditton Halewood a whole raft of electrified sidings are going largely unused.. Not sure how Halewood manufactures these days but obviously much more was done by rail in the past.. these are just 2 examples..
Logs what logs? All I can see is a truck load of twigs ,
Gosh the class 90 was an epic design.. shows it off well with this livery.. hopefully more electric traction can be found.. diesels under wires still a problem.. an unwillingness to swap locos at rail yards seems culprit really.. like Trafford to Felixstowe could be Electric to Ioswich.. change to diesel for last few miles only.. that sort of thing..
I was dubious about electro / diesel on passenger services, but it does seem to work, so I ask why not electro diesel that's able to handle these loads across electrified and non electrified tracks. We have had electro / diesel before after all, although the 'diesel' bit was rather limited,
@@jimthorne304 This all ready being adopted in Europe - ln fact I think DB already have some of these types of locos in service.
@@jimthorne304Class 99 to be constructed for GBRf.
There needs to be more use of the rail network for freight, there's an old Freightliner depot abandoned and in a dire state that could be refurbished and modernised to cater for small scale distribution, with regular rail consignments. It's what the East Coast needs, and Thornton in Fife should have similar treatment.
And to think rail transport uses 76% less energy than road transport
As the Japanese maglev is so fast it could take passengers in the day and containers Sydney/Melbourne between 1am and 3am due to no maintenance required.
It`s nothing new. We used to have two trains a day, five days a week, carrying Logs from Scotland, to Chirk in Wales.
A great project and a great video. The CGI and realistic soundtrack really brings it to life.
