Make an easy komebukuro (Japanese rice bag)
A komebukuro is a drawstring bag traditionally used in Japan to bring rice offerings to temples and shrines. They were made of small pieces of cloth. This is my version of such a bag. The fabrics used for the bag (except for the lining) are made by @olympusthread

For this coaster, I wanted to use tshirt yarn for a more authentic look. It reminds me of the Japanese weaving technique "sakiori" where weavers would use stripes of old clothes and weave them into new and beautiful fabric! Do love sashiko but you don't find it that easy to draw the patterns by yourself. Use a sashiko template! Beautiful - I love it. But doesn't the rice come out of the corners? Did I miss the sewing of the corners (I watched twice)

Love using Sashiko stitching...very relaxing. More design fun realized when I began using colorful threads to enhance the designs!!! My brother even let me Sashiko a patch on his torn blue jeans (@ his knee) late last year!!!

South Africa is far from the Netherlands but if what you order is light. the shipping fees would be between 10 and 19,30 euro. Stunning! It's exactly what i want - even if it had only some boro I would still love it! Do you sell them or teach the pattern? I would love to just find the basic pattern to create the jacket!
Hi Heather, thank you so much! I think you could find a pattern for a hanten or kimono quite easily on the internet. The whole thing is made of rectangles so it's not that difficult to make. Most of the work, as you can imagine, was to sew all the pieces of fabic on top of it. You could use a regular jacket ( a thin one) and make it thicker and warmed using this method ;-) Good luck!
